Opis:
Properties of selected Precambrian and Paleozoic sedimentary clastic rocks were analysed with respect to their reservoir potential. Multidimensional analysis of laboratory results and borehole logging data was used to construct digital models of pre-Mesozoic, deeply buried formations, present as tight, low-porosity and low-permeability rocks. This modern statistical and deterministic approach as applied to laboratory and borehole logging results worked to integrate data at different scales. The results obtained are useful not only in further scientific research but also found a use in industrial application. As a first step, statistical methods, including clustering and separation of homogeneous groups, enabled digital rock model creation on the basis of the results of such laboratory measurements as pycnometry, mercury porosimetry, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy or computed X-ray tomography. Next, the models constructed were applied in borehole logging interpretation to find intervals with similar petrophysical properties within the group and different properties between the groups. This approach allowed implementation of upscaling procedures of laboratory experiments at micro- and nano-scale to borehole logging scale. High correlations were established between the log petrophysical parameters within the digital models. This approach can be used to divide the succession cored into intervals with different petrophysical parameters.

Opis:
Analysis of the Earth’s surface using three-dimensional models provides a wealth of new interpretation opportunities to geologists and geomorphologists. Linear elements, not visible on classical maps, become distinct features; it is also possible to interpret both small-scale glacial landforms and entire complexes of postglacial landscapes at the regional scale. Geomorphic features are frequently difficult to recognise in the field, either due to their scale or field obstacles. Three-dimensional visualization of the Earth’s surface and its examination at different angles and differently orientated source of light is extremely helpful in geological and geomorphological studies. This tool is, however, relatively seldom used due to either limited access to digital data bases or time-consuming procedures of individual construction of such bases from the existing cartographic data. For instance, analysis of small-scale glacial, fluvial or aeolian landforms in lowland areas requires cartographic data of resolution compatible with 1 : 10,000 scale. Nevertheless, less detailed digital elevation models, constructed at the scale of 1 : 50,000, are also extremely helpful, since they allow for regional interpretations of those morphostructures which are associated not only with neotectonics, but also with ice-flow directions, block disintegration of an ice-sheet, subglacial drainage, stages of fluvial erosion, or location of dune belts. A possibility of superposition of geological or geomorphological maps onto 3-D models is equally important, enhancing readability of the maps and providing clues to verification of the origin of landforms and proper cross-cutting relationships drawn on the map.

Opis:
The article compares results of field assessment of activity of selected landslides in the Rożnowskie Lake region, obtained in 2010-2014 with a differential digital models (DDM) from airborne laser scanning data of 2010, 2013 and 2018. Results of DDM analyses were similar to those from field studies. The most difficult task in the field research was to distinguish between active landslides, where the last movements took place over three years after the date of landslide registration, and periodically active landslides, the last visible movements that took place five years ago. The article underlines that not all displacements within the landslides, visible on differential terrain models, are the result of colluvium landslide movement. Sometimes they are due to anthropogenic activities. Differential digital model in the Znamirowice landslide presents terrain changes that have resulted from intensive agricultural land use.

Differential Digital Terrain Models

Rożnów Lake
Opis:
In order to identify the causes of landslide development in the area of Rożnów Lake (Outer Carpathians – southern Poland) in the last decade, Differential Digital Terrain Models (DDM) were used. These were made on the basis of Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) data from four flights. The first ALS data are from 2010, before the event in Poland known as the “landslide catastrophe”. Comparing digital terrain models from different years tracking of changes in landslide activity relative to the intensity of precipitation. The article presents a method of investigating landslides with the use of DDM. This analysis allowed calculation of the displacement lithological index and of landslide susceptibility, based only on landslides that have become active in the last decade. The areas with the highest susceptibility to landslides are regions of Hieroglyphic Beds occurrence and of tectonic overthrusts. An important role in the development of landslides in the area of Rożnów Lake is also played by the thick-bedded Ciężkowice sandstones (usually associated with low susceptibility to landslides). After the “landslide catastrophe”, it is precisely in these formations that the greatest displacements and more frequent widening of the landslide boundaries were recorded, though they are generally stable during smaller rainfall.

Mount Medvednica
Opis:
Mt. Medvednica is an inselberg in NW Croatia which tectonically lies at the intersection between Southeastern Alps, Northwestern Dinarides and Tisza Mega-Unit of the Pannonian basin. Due to the Pliocene-Quaternary N-S directed transpression it experienced a differential uplift between 1500-2000 m and exposes pre-Neogene and Neogene tectonic and stratigraphic units surrounded by Pliocene-Quaternary sediments. This paper evaluates a set of methods in quantitative morphometry, used here for identification of tectonically active areas within a region characterized by low-rate active folding and faulting during the Pliocene-Quaternary times. Analysis employed extraction of hypsometric curves, calculation of hypsometric integral, asymmetry factor, and statistical parameters of normalized longitudinal main stream profiles of 36 drainage basins delineated from a 25-m resolution DEM of Mt. Medvednica area. Despite lithological heterogeneity, obtained morphometric parameters are considered as fairly good indicators for discriminating tectonically active from inactive areas. Based on calculated parameters, in combination with geological data, the most tectonically active areas during the Quaternary are found at the SW corner of the Mt. Medvednica related to an active segment of the North Medvednica Boundary Fault, and in the central part of the mountain related to the Kašina fault zone subdividing mountain into the NE and SW units.

Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono zastosowanie zdjęć lotniczych i fotogrametrycznych cyfrowych modeli terenu w badaniu osuwiska Śliwnica.
This article shows the application of aerial photography and photogrammetric digital elevation models in the research on the Śliwnica landslide. The consecutive stages of the development of the Śliwnica landslide have been presented on the basis of archival aerial photographs, originating from different time periods. Two photogrammetric high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) were generated and compared. This way, the dynamics of the surface of the landslide was analyzed. The differences between the grids of digital elevation models were used for determination of vertical movements of the grid points within the landslide area. The differences were visualized as a shaded relief map, with a red colour for positive elevations (erosion), and a blue one for negative ones (accumulation). The map was superimposed on digital ortophotomap dated on the October 2002. Additionally, five geomorphological cross-sections were made.

Opis:
Landslides are very common features in the Polish Outer Carpathians. In the classical cartography, landslides are recognized based on characteristic land relief: main and side scarps, toe, minor scarps, transverse ridges, recesses and cracks. Formerly, landslide mapping was carried out in the field, preceded by interpretation of topographic maps and aerial photographs. Nowadays, we use spatial data from airborne laser scanning (ALS). Spatial data reprocessing permits to achieve a high-resolution (pixel 1*1 m or more precise) digital terrain model (DTM). Exploration of land relief in search for landslides has become simpler and more accurate. DTM interpretation allows delimiting the boundaries of landslides and elements of their relief. By analysing groups oflandforms it is possible to determine the type of colluvium movement. In the eastern part of the Low Beskid Mts., four types of landslides predominate: rotational slides, translational slides, flows, and complex movements. Types of landslides are usually very well visible on the DTM. Information about types of mass movements can be useful during modelling further landslide activity and designing instrumental identification works and possibility ofstabilization.

Opis:
The currently available map sheets issued under the edition of the Detailed Geological Map of the Sudetes at the scale of1 : 25,000 (SMGS25), and especially those compiled in the 1950s and 1960s, does not meet the requirement of uniformity and accuracy of mapping, and they do not contain some key information that has been acquired as a result of multidisciplinary geological studies in the Sudetes over the last half-century. New research tools, such as LIDAR models of the land surface (DEM), allow for partial migration of data and (or) the implementation of recent research results, however, it should be verified by experienced geologists in the field. This is documented by two examples of their use to different areas in the Sudetes, which are composed primarily of sedimentary rocks.

Opis:
Digital subsurface mapping on a wide scale started in Poland at the beginning of the 1990s. A team of the Department of Fossil Fuels was engaged in this activity from its beginning. In the first stage simple techniques were based on digitalization of archival maps, which gradually were replaced by development of local and regional maps based on 2D grids. In that period the most significant achievements of the team were Geothermal Atlases of the Polish Lowlands. After 2006, 3D grid-based techniques, comprising static structural and parametric models, gradually replaced the 2D grid-based techniques. They were used in completion of the 3D grid-based models lying behind the maps presented in Geothermal Atlases of the western part of the Polish Carpathians, the Carpathian Foredeep and the eastern part of the Polish Carpathians. According to the world trends in the field of petroleum geology, quantitative petroleum resources assessments were carried out using 2D, 2.5 and 3D grid-based generation, migration and expulsion models. At the same time, numerous 3D static models for CCS purposed were developed. At present, our research moves toward better data integration, uncertainty assessment and 4D modelling for petroleum geology (especially unconventional hydrocarbons), geothermal resources and CCS purposes.
