Opis:
In 2006 Science for Peace and Security NATO Pilot Study project “Sustainable Use and protection of Groundwater Resources – Transboundary Water Management” has been launch. This project focuses on development of international co-operation on implementation of water quality assessment and water quality monitoring and assessment as important issues in relation to sustainable land management. It is also a scientific platform for experts from Belarus, Poland and Ukraine as well as from other countries for exchange ideas about water management with special emphasis on groundwater and its protection. The project initiates trilateral cooperation on monitoring, contamination migration and water management issues. The main interest of the project focused on the Bug River Basin, which is divided into three riparian countries Belarus, Poland and Ukraine as well as is an eastern border basin of European Union.

Opis:
The research question undertaken in this paper is the evaluation of recharging infiltration in the vicinity of Dręszew. This village is located about 40 kilometres north of Warsaw. The research area is located in the Bug River Valley. Determination of effective infiltration is very important as it is largely responsible for recharging the aquifer. Currently, many methods and tools exist for determining infiltration. However, it is necessary to make the selection of the method dependent on the purpose, the scope of the study, and the scale of the study area, but also the temporal aspect should be taken into account. Two methods were used to assess groundwater recharge. The first one is an index method based on the calculation formula proposed by Witczak (2011). The calculations were performed using ArcGIS v. 10.3. software. The second recharging infiltration assessment method was used to solve the reverse of the hydrodynamic model. A numerical groundwater flow model was built using the VisualMODFLOW program. Two methods were used to ensure mutual verifiability. In excess of this, the choice of the indicator method along with the mathematical modelling method was related to the fact that both assume the influence of the presence of a shallow groundwater table, from which evaporation is possible, sometimes exceeding recharge.

Opis:
The traditional approach in photogrammetric studies relies mainly on the analysis of topographic maps, supported by geological and geomorphological field mapping. This paper presents an application of the modern method of three-dimensional earth imaging – Airborne Laser Scanning. The major advantage of this method is the filtering procedure, which allows to removing vegetation and other objects from the analysed surface, resulting in more precise terrain model. We used aerial photographs for preparation of two photogrammetric digital terrain models (DTMs), which were subsequently compared to evaluate dynamic properties of landslide areas. The difference between gratings within digital models was used to determine horizontal shifts in the area of landslide. The discrepancy presented observed in the shaded relief image characterises positive elevations (erosion) shown in reddish colour, and negative ones (accumulation) displayed in bluish. The maximum scarp retreat driven by landsliding processes reached 17 m during the last 53 years, with ca. 562 m3 of accumulated colluvium.

Opis:
The geological setting of the Bug-Pripyat interfluve and the close proximity of the source of the Pripyat River to the well-developed Middle Bug River valley suggest that these rivers may have been connected in the past. Analysis of geological cross-sections around the Polish-Ukraine-Belarus cross-border areas together with study of associated Pleistocene palaeoflora shows that buried alluvial deposits of the proto-Bug and proto-Pripyat clearly represent the Preglacial (MIS 103-23), Podlasian/Turskian-Donian/Brest Interglacial (Cromerian I-II; MIS 21-17) and the Mazovian/Likhvinian/Alexandrian Interglacial (Holsteinian; MIS 11c). Their elevated position in mid-eastern Poland suggests the possibility of accumulation by proto-Bug waters flowing eastwards, which determined the formation and development of the lower-lying proto-Pripyat valley system in northwestern Ukraine at those times. The occurrence of the Ponto-Caspian species Lithoglyphus naticoides (C. Pfeiffer, 1828), Borysthenia naticina (Menke, 1845) and Corbicula fluminalis (O.F. Müller, 1774) in the mollusc assemblages of the Mazovian/Likhvinian/Alexandrian Interglacial implies that the main watershed between the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea drainage basins might have been situated in the northern part of the area studied. Presumably its main part was drained by the waters of the proto-Bug catchment connected with the proto-Pripyat and flowing farther to the east towards the Dnieper River entering the Black Sea.

Opis:
One of channel features, which seems to be importantfor river engineering projects, is possibility of existence of natural trends of currents distribution. The recurrence of thalweg direction can be connected among other reasons with the susceptibility to erosion of deposits that build up the channel zone. The aim of the study was determination of alluvia basement influence on channel morphodynamics. The article presents the results of bathymetric measurements that were carried out in two non-engineered sections of the Bug River channel within its Podlaski Gorge and two sections of the Middle Vistula: in the Basonia (Małopolska Gorge) and Dęblin (examples of engineered channel) regions. The study was conducted with the use of sonar coupled with aDGPS receiver. Measurements were performed under conditions of low and medium water levels. The study also included geological research of the river channel (drillings). The analysis of channel morphology changes was performed in GIS environment. The studies have shown a link between morphology of the alluvia basement (composed of erosion-resistant deposits) and the flow directions. This phenomenon is observed in the river channel regardless of the flow rate.
