Opis:
Suitability analyses connected with location of water intakes and effective solutions analysis of by-pass road course are examples of ArcGIS – Community Viz system implementation in solving planning problems with application of geological data. The geological structure of land is one of many elements that ought to have an influence on planning processes, especially in long time intervals. Except of suitability analysis, there is a possibility to evaluate and research the influence of future investments for underground water or for line investment projects (by-pass roads, pipe-lines). The innovative Community Viz technology, dedicated previously to spatial planners, is a very good tool to show a new, integrated approach to planning with a broad use of geological data. This tool can present real-time many variants of selected solutions and consequences of its further implementation. Integrated ArcGis – CommunityViz spatial information system enables effective implementation of geological knowledge to make pertinent spatial decisions.

Opis:
In the year 1966 a well field supplying the city of Zielona Góra with water was opened in the ice-marginal valley of the Odra River, near the village of Zawada. After three years of water pumping from 22 wells tapping the shallow valley aquifer, a significant deterioration of water quality, especially involving the increase of concentrations of iron, sulphates, manganese and water hardness, as a result of the process of sulphide oxidation accumulated within the recent Holocene deposits, was observed. Despite drastic changes in quality (the increase of iron concentration to approximately 30 mg/l and sulphate concentration to above 300 mg/l), the well field was still operated as its water was used for purifying (coagulation) of the polluted surface water supplying the city of Zielona Góra. Based on the analysis of over 30-year-long period of water pumping, it was stated that the effect of the sulphide oxidation process on the quality of water was noticeable for the period of 19 years. The period of persisting very high concentrations of iron of above 15 mg/l amounted to approximately 6 years. It was also stated that the process of reducing the concentrations following the period of their maximum increase proceeded in two stages – the stage of rapid reduction of concentrations which lasted for about 4 years and the stage of slow changes which took about 10 years. The first one was related to the exhaustion of sulphides within the formations marked by good permeability, and the period of semi-decomposition of sulphides, which lasted for about 3 years, was determined based on the changes in iron concentrations. On the other hand, the reduction of concentrations at the stage of slow changes may be linked to the oxidation of sulphides occurring in the formations marked by weak permeability (silts, clays, peats).

Opis:
The western part of the Middle Triassic Ridge is cut by two narrow gorges. At present the Odra River is running through the western gorge in the vicinity of Krapkowice and a small stream, right-bank tributary of this river, through the eastern one, passing 1–2 km to the east of the former. These erosive forms were hitherto interpreted as epigenetic gorges of the Odra. A row of elongated hills built of gravel and sands is found at southeasterly prologation of the eastern erosive gorge. The field study carried out at a site located at one of these hills indicates direct connections and subglacial origin of these erosive forms and hills. Most probably the eastern gorge represents a fragment of a subglacial tunnel valley, which continues northwards into the zone of the present-day Odra channel. The hills located at prolongation of the gorges are interpreted as eskers. Because of the high similarity, the western gorge valley is most probably also of subglacial origin. The studied part of the subglacial drainage system most probably originated in result of an outburst flood of subglacial water temporarily stored at the bottom of the ice-sheet. The tunnel valley and eskars were formed during Odranian glaciation.
