Opis:: Adolescence is a developmental period of rapid changes, when teenagers begin to surmount challenges and learn autonomy. It is also unfortunately the period of many threats for youth. Much of the adverse health consequences experienced by adolescents are, to a large extent, the result of risk behaviors. In this article we have described adolescent health risk behaviors. We have concentrated on theories of risk behaviors contextualizing biological, psychological and environmental aspects. We have also listed risk factors for engaging in risk behavior by adolescents.

Opis:: The issue of domestic violence has been widely described – its specific character, variety of aspects involved, its epidemiology and the influence of violence on psychological functions of the family. Then the results of analyses of police reports with data referring to the range of violence in Lublin region were presented. The results have been critically discussed and have led to the following conclusions: the number of police interventions in Lublin region is increasing every year, which means that on one hand the rate of violence is unfortunately getting bigger , and on the other hand the awareness of victims and their trust in the police institution hopefully increase; the highest in numbers are women victims, children are next; victims that come from villages less frequently turn to the police for help in the case of violence; violence is more intense in families with alcoholic problems.

Opis:: Type 1 diabetes mellitus in children and adolescents is a question of medical and psychological field. It is relevant to treat and maintain proper glicemic control from the very beginning of the disease. This may prevent from early development of diabetic-related complications. Family functioning is of a high importance in the course of chld's diabetes care. Cooperation between parents, medical service and teachers is needed to protect children from emotional problems and early complications. The role of the family seems to be irreplaceable.

Opis:: Celem niniejszego artykułu jest próba określenia związku pomiędzy doświadczeniem przemocy w dzieciństwie a zachowaniami ryzykownymi dla zdrowia i życia wśród polskiej młodzieży. Grupę badaną stanowili pacjenci (w wieku 14-18 lat) kilkunastu polskich placówek zajmujących się leczeniem młodzieży przejawiającej zachowania ryzykowne. W badaniu wykorzystano Inwentarz Wczesnej Traumy (ETT) oraz Skalę Zachowań Zdrowotnych konstrukcji własnej. Wyniki wskazują, że młodzież po próbach samobójczych oraz nadużywająca środków psychoaktywnych najczęściej doświadczała w dzieciństwie przemocy fizycznej, zaś młodzież z zaburzeniami odżywiania - przemocy emocjonalnej oraz seksualnej.
The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between childhood experiences of violence and health- or life-threatening high-risk behaviors among Polish adolescents. The studied group consisted of 14-18 year old patients from several Polish centers treating young people with high-risk behaviors. Early Trauma Inventory (ETI) and the Scale of Healthy Behaviors were used in the study. Results: Young people after suicidal attempts and with substance abuse reported predominantly experiences of physical violence in childhood. Adolescents with eating disorders had experienced emotional and sexual violence.

Opis:: A patient's right to obtain medical information is one of patients' as well as human fundamental rights. The issue regarding medical information, its scope, and potential recipients thereof, gives rise to a great deal of controversy concerning the physician-patient relationship. It is subject to debate whether or not to reveal the whole truth about a serious prognosis, and who is to be informed – the patient or their family – of the medical condition, course of treatment, and prognosis. According to the Medical Code of Ethics, an inpatient has a right to be helped by their family or friends, and to meet a priest, hence a physician should treat the family of a patient with respect and consideration (Art. 19).
