    The present paper is a contribution to inquiries concerning cognitive values and goals of science. It comprises four parts which are entitled as follows: philosophy of science and philosophy of wisdom; traditional ideal of scientific knowledge; hierarchical versus reticulated model of scientific rationality; realistic axiology of science. In all of these parts continuing controversies on the relevant theme between, in principle, scientific or critical realism and nonrealistic standpoints (e.g. instrumentalism, conventionalism, pragmatism) are exposed. The author claims that there are reasons to believe that the (approximative) truth is the dominant cognitive value to be achieved in science.

    This subdiscipline of bioelectronics deals with electronic properties of biological microstructures (molecules, aggregates of them, and cellular substructures as well as their possible role in living systems. To realize this goal, two basically different approaches are feasible. The first one is to apply purely physical concepts and methods to reveal these properties and electronic phenomena, and the other one is to look for such units in biological systems that may function as elementary units of electronic devices (e.g. paths of electronic conduction, switchable elements, resonators, etc.).

    The Council dealt with various conceptions of fines matrimonii. Some texts discuss this matter and some draw the right sense of expressions from descriptive formulations. The over-all vision of the ends of marriage was presented and considered within the frameworks of the Theological Commission, the Commission for the matters of Sacraments, and particularly within frameworks of the Mixed Commission along with its various subcommission. Initially the problems of marriage were dealt with in a perfunctory manner by preparatory commission. A special issue dovoted to the ends of marriage appeared as late as in the scheme prepared by the Theological Commission entitled „De castitate, virginitate, matrimonio, familia” (February1962). They were depicted there in accordance with the earlier teaching of the Church. It is in this scheme „The Dogmatic Constitution of the Church” that the personalistic end marriage was added. The aim being the sanctification of the spouses. The majority of discussions concerning fines matrimonii were carried out within the frameworks of the Mixed Commission and at the general assemblies during the third and fourth session of the Council. The matter under discussion was then the schemes of „The Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Contemporary World”. The Council did not change but supplemented the hitherto Church's teaching on the ends of marriage. It was expressed in a different, more personalistic language. The Council avoided as much as possible the technical terms, yet it included some new unchanging contents in new formulations. They are understandable for the average reader, and specialists who seek an answer to their precise and detailed questions must elicit appropriate contents from the descriptive formulations. The ends of marriage results from its nature, hence they cannot change all the time. The Church better and better recognizes these ends and defines them.

    The Polish version of the article was published in Roczniki Humanistyczne vol. 57, issue 1 (2009). This article is devoted to Zbigniew Herber’s thoughts concerning esthetics. The author interprets the poet’s letters written to various people (among others, to Halina Misiołkowa, Czesław Miłosz and Jerzy Zawieyski) and looks for his opinions on art and creativity. He treats the letters not as auxiliary materials for the study of poetry, but as the main subject of his research. He perceives the transition from private letters to writing poetry as a consequence of the axiological connections joining both of these types of expression. He pays special attention to Herbert’s care for the consciousness of the aims of art, stemming from historical experience. The poet himself defined them in one of the letters as “ordering the world.”

    The aim of the article is to present the strategy of rehabilitation of the teleology in the conception of Robert Spaemann, Reinchard Löw and Hans Jonas. That strategy takes into account a few aspects: (1) the analysis of general conception of explanation in which the character of questions activating the process of explanation is taking into consideration, (2) the analysis of the conception of the teleological and causal explanations (according to the Hempel-Oppenheim model), (3) determination of the pragmatic background of the controversies concerning teleology, (4) determination of the domain and aims of teleological and causal interpretations.
    Celem artykułu jest prezentacja strategii rehabilitacji teleologii w ujęciu: Roberta Spaemanna, Reincharda Löwa oraz Hansa Jonasa. Strategia ta uwzględnia kilka aspektów: (1) analizę ogólnej koncepcji wyjaśniania, w której jest uwzględniony charakter pytań uruchamiających proces wyjaśniania, (2) analizę koncepcji wyjaśniania teleologicznego i przyczynowego (według modelu Hempla- Oppenheima) (3) określenie pragmatycznego tła sporu o teleologię, (4) określenie domeny i celów interpretacji teleologicznych i przyczynowych.

    Religious faith is a supernatural reality – given for free and, at the same time, set – requiring man's commitment. In the second aspect we can talk about the development of faith. Supporting the development of faith means upbringing according to psycho-social development of a student.     Filozofia Kazimierza Twardowskiego jest dobrze znana wszystkim, którzy interesują się tą dziedziną wiedzy. Tego samego nie da się już powiedzieć o jego poglądach pedagogicznych, które zostały w znacznym stopniu zapomniane. O umiejętnościach dydaktycznych Kazimierza Twardowskiego z uznaniem wypowiadał się między innymi Wincenty Okoń, umieszczając jego sylwetkę w pracy Wizerunki sławnych pedagogów polskich. Uznał go tym samym za jednego z największych pedagogów polskich XX wieku. W artykule rekonstruuję tylko niektóre aspekty myśli pedagogicznej Kazimierza Twardowskiego. Koncentruję się przede wszystkim na celach kształcenia, jakie stawiał sobie w swojej pracy dydaktycznej. Rozpoczynam od ogólnej definicji pojęcia „cele kształcenia” oraz pokazuję, jak było ono rozumiane przez Kazimierza Twardowskiego, następnie przywołuję proponowany przez niego podział celów kształcenia, na koniec zaprezentuję sylwetkę idealnego wychowanka, jaką proponował ten filozof. Sylwetka idealnego wychowanka została przedstawiona z dwóch stron. Zarówno od strony przedmiotowej, odnoszącej się to całokształtu wiedzy, jaką powinien uczeń zdobyć w trakcie edukacji, jak również od strony podmiotowej, czyli umiejętności oraz cech charakteru, które powinny zostać w nim zaszczepione. Rekonstrukcja opiera się zarówno na pismach Twardowskiego, które odnoszą się bezpośrednio do omawianej tematyki, nieopublikowanych wykładach z dydaktyki, notatkach, jak również na jego publikacjach dotyczących etyki, logiki i psychologii. W artykule przywołuję także fragmenty ocen opisowych, jakie Kazimierz Twardowski stawiał swoim studentom, co pozwoli uzyskać wgląd w jego warsztat dydaktyczno-wychowawczy.
    The philosophy of Kazimierz Twardowski is well known to those who are interested in the subject. Unfortunatelly the same cannot be stated with regard to his pedagogical views which have been to a large extent forgotten. Wincenty Okoń included Kazimierz Twardowski in his work Wizerunki sławnych pedagogów polskich in this way showing his appreciation towards the didactic skills of Twardowski. In this way Okoń acknowledged Twardowski as one of the greatest Polish pedagogues of the 20th century. In my article I recreate only the chosen aspects of the pedagogical thought of Kazimierz Twardowski. Above all, I concentrate on the aims of teaching that he placed in his didactic work. I will start with a general definition of the term “aim of teaching” and present the way it was understood by Kazimierz Twardowski. In the following part I will remind his division of the teaching aims and in the end I will present the figure of a perfect student proposed by the philosopher. The figure of a perfect student will be presented from two perspectives; both from the objective one, concentrating on the totality of knowledge that should be obtained by a student during his education and from the subjective perspective, that is the skills and personal characteristics that should be imprinted in the student. The reconstruction is based on: the works of Twardowski that are directly connected wih the discussed issue, not-published lectures in didactics, notes, and his publications concerning ethics, logic and psychology. In the article I also remind excerpts from the written assessments which Twardowski prepared for his students. This will allow for gaining insight into his didactic-pedagogic work.

    Niniejszy esej stanowi zbiór podstawowych poglądów brytyjskiego filozofa Robina George’a Collingwooda na cele i zadania nauk historycznych. Zawiera krytykę ujmowania historii jako dyscypliny dążącej do ustanowienia ogólnych, rządzących biegiem dziejów, praw oraz jako dyscypliny zmierzającej do odkrycia, realizowanego w dziejach, boskiego planu. Jest on próbą wykazania różnic między historią a filozofią historii, sztuką i nauką. Wyraża pogląd, że nie istnieje coś takiego jak czysty fakt historyczny, że nie jesteśmy w stanie, w sposób absolutny, poznać jakiegokolwiek faktu historycznego, mimo że wiedza o nim zwiększa się, oraz że myślenie historyczne bazuje na percepcji. Konkluzją eseju jest myśl, że każdy historyk patrzy na przeszłość z własnego punktu widzenia, a więc źródła, z jakich korzysta, i wnioski, do jakich dochodzi, będą się znacząco różniły od źródeł i wniosków innych historyków, oraz myśl, że każde wydarzenie historyczne jest niewyczerpalne w tym sensie, że w rękach każdego nowego historyka przybiera inny kształt.
    This essay is a set of Robin George Collingwood’s basic reflections on the objectives and tasks of the historical sciences. It contains the critic of history as a discipline that aims at establishing general laws, which rule the course of history, and as a discipline that aims at discovering a divine plan, which is realizing itself in history. It is an attempt to show the differences between history and the philosophy of history, art and science. It expresses the thought that there is no such thing as a pure historical fact, that absolute cognition of any historical fact is impossible, though the knowledge about it increases, and that historical thought is based on perception. The conclusion of this essay is twofold. First, it concludes that the idea that each historian looks at the past from his own point of view, therefore sources used by him, and inferences that he reaches, significantly differ from sources and inferences of other historians. Second, it concludes that the thought that any historical event is unexhausted, in the sense that, it takes another shape in the hands of every new historian.

    Tłumaczenia biznesowe w nauczaniu języków obcych na wyższych uczelniach: Cele i metodyka Sonia Colina (2003) stawia tezę, że nauczyciele języków obcych mają trudności z określeniem właściwej metodyki przekładu w dydaktyce. W niniejszym artykule zbadano, w jakim stopniu spostrzeżenia dydaktyczne dotyczące rozwijania kompetencji interkulturowej w translatologii są spójne z założeniami funkcjonującymi w glottodydaktyce. Przedstawiamy zintegrowany model dydaktyczny, który jest wynikiem naszych poszukiwań, oraz niektóre wyniki badania pilotażowego, w którym zintegrowany model został przetestowany pod względem wykonalności podczas praktycznych zajęć tłumaczenia w ramach programu nauczania języka obcego. Zakelijk vertalen in het universitaire vreemdetalenonderwijs: doelstelling en aanpak Sonia Colina (2003) stelt dat docenten vreemde talen moeite hebben met het bepalen van een didactische benadering van het vertaalonderwijs in het vreemdetalenonderwijs (VTO). Op zoek naar een oplossing zullen we onderzoeken in hoeverre de didactische inzichten uit de vertalersopleiding voor de bevordering van de interculturele communicatieve competentie (ICC) compatibel zijn met die voor verbetering van diezelfde competentie in het VTO. Na een overlap in betekenis en inhoud van een aantal kernbegrippen uit beide onderwijsdomeinen te hebben bevestigd, konden we een gecombineerd didactisch model (hierna model 1) definiëren voor de verbetering van de ICC in VTO-vertaling. De combinatie van de twee modellen komt neer op de implementatie van elementen van de functionele benadering (Nords-model) bij de vertaling naar een ICC-model dat wordt gebruikt in het VTO (Van Kalsbeek-model). In dit artikel presenteren we enkele bevindingen van een pilotstudie waarin model 1 werd getest op de implementeerbaarheid ervan in vertaalcolleges in het kader van het onderwijs Nederlands als Vreemde Taal.
    According to Sonia Colina (2003) foreign language teachers have difficulties in determining a didactic approach to teaching translation in foreign language education (FLE). In search of a solution, we will examine to what extent the didactic insights in Translation Studies on intercultural communicative competence (ICC) are compatible with those for the enhancement of the same competence in FLE. In this article we present some findings of a pilot study in which an integrated didactical model was tested on its implementability in the framework of translation classes for Dutch Foreign Language Teaching.
