Opis:: Priest Franciszek Józef Wybicki came from a moderately rich noble family, who rendered great service to the country. Judging from the numerous posts he served at the request of the bishops of Włocławek, he was an educated theologian and lawyer. Apart from managing the parish of the Archangel Michael in Skarszewy (1736-1765), he was a surrogate to several general officials in Gdańsk since 1743; in 1747 he was first mentioned as one of the canons in the Włocławek chapter. Since 1758 he was the chancellor of the Kruszwice chapter and the archdeacon of the Pomorian District since 1764. His business activity was limited to the parish in Skarszewy, situated in the vicinity of Gdansk. First of all, he rebuilt the parish church, which had been consecrated in 1750, where he founded two altars: the main altar, devoted to the Archangel Michael and the one devoted to St Mary. In addition, he built a poor-house for 8 people and furnished it generously. The farm buildings were also restored. He tried to regain the sums due to the provosts of Skarszewy, suing the debtors in six trials; he won one case, two others were still in court when he died and, in view of the fact that he lacked sufficient evidence to win, he renounced the remaining ones. Priest F.J. Wybicki did not do any business himself; he was content with rebuilding and leasing two home farms, a large and a small one; he also regenerated the parish forest and renounced the taproom rights. He collected tithes, offerings on account of iura stolae or Christmas visits, Easter confessions or donations for celebrating masses. The total parish revenues came up to 3 thousand florins and about 200 bushels of wheat and oats. The tenants were obliged to work 132 days a year for him. Owing to his efforts, the revenues rose by 50%, the parish remaining one of the most profitable in 18th century Poland. It should be noted that he resigned the offerings of the guild of bakers, whose request to do so was based on their difficult financial situation.

Opis:: The purpose of this study has been to introduce the hitherto absent documentary proof – Liber Consiliorum of the Dominican Convent in Poznań – into the scientific workflow and to preliminarily analyse the internal structure and content of this historic writing. The author has touched upon this subject, believing that Dominican „Soviet Books” are of greatest significance for understanding internal mechanisms of operations of the Friars Preachers Monastery in the contemporary world, and indirectly the operations of the Polish Dominican Province as a whole in that time interval. The Book of Poznan came to existence in January 1724 and was maintained until 1822. It is plausible to state that it is the documentary proof for the operations of Saint Dominic’s Convent in the period – more or less – of the last hundred years of its existence. The content of the Book has its primary significance for the research on the head-count of the Convent in 18th Century and at the beginning of 19th Century. It is also difficult to overestimate the importance of its content from the point of view of the studies on the modern administration of the Convent in Poznan. The comprehensive study on the content of other books of councils of Saint Dominic’s Convents in the post-Tridentine Era, as preserved in archive collections, would certainly facilitate to understand the mechanisms of the Convents’ operations and would expand the knowledge on their human resources to a great extent.

Opis:: Die vor kurzem veröffentlichte Enzyklopädie des Wissens über die Jesuiten in Polen und Litauen von 1564 bis 1995 enthält Kurzbiographien der Jesuiten aus Wolhynien, macht dann allerdings für die Zeit nach der Aufhebung des Ordens keine weiteren Angaben mehr über sie. Bei vielen Lebensbildern von Jesuiten stoßen wir dort lediglich auf folgende Information: ,,Das weitere Schicksal nach der Ordensaufhebung ist unbekannt". Das weithin ungeordnete und recht lückenhafte Archiv der Diözese Luzk, welches zeitweilig im Zentrum für Kirchliche Archive, Bibliotheken und Museen (ABMK) in Lublin deponiert ist, enthält bestimmte Materialien, welche über die weitere Seelsorgetätigkeit und den Tod einiger Ex-Jesuiten Auskunft geben können, die auf dem Gebiet der Diözese Luzk und später Luzk-Zhitomir gearbeitet haben. Durch diese knappen Informationen können die fehlenden Angaben ergänzt wer-den. Vielleicht könnten in dem sich in Luzk befindenden großen Teil des Archivs dieser Diözese auch noch weitere Informationen gefunden werden.

Opis:: The article is based on the description of the visitation of 1782 held in the convent of Norbertine Sisters in Busko. This description is placed in the manuscript book entitled „The act of the general visitation…”. The manuscript, including 130 pages of text, is an extremely valuable source of information on the town owned by the nuns and the convent of the Norbertine Sisters. This manuscript helps to recreate the appearance of Busko in this period, its urban character, the appearance and equipment of the church dedicated to Immaculate Conception of the Holy Mary (it was also a parish and a monastic church), wooden Church of St Leonard, the convent and the buildings forming part of the monastic grange. It is also possible to gain information on the financial status of the nuns in the context of their salaries and the financial and economic problems. Wooden buildings, the falling number of craftsmen and the disappearance of trade traditions confirm the deteriorating economic condition of the convent. In the post-visitation recommendations, we find points relating to the necessity of the settlement of Jewish merchants and artisans in the vicinity of Busko. These observations demonstrate the ways to recover the town economy indicated by the bishop.The most valuable thing, however, seems to be the opportunity to learn about the inner structure of the convent at that time, people who were part of the convent, functions performed by the nuns, the organization of the inner life, nun spirituality and the nunnery-town relations. On the pages of the manuscript we find the mention of the nunnery and the parish school, the hospital for the poor, the urban guilds and their participation in religious life, brotherhoods, and the privileges and responsibilities of burghers to the owners of the town and vice versa. This source is even more valuable because of the fact that the urban books of Busko did not survive and the materials about the Norbertine convent are in a fragmentary state.
