Opis:
The essay aims at continuing and completing our previous research concerning the manuscript tradition of the Vita Sancti Pauli Primi Eremitae of St. Jerome. The Basilicanus A.6 (alias E) manuscript, kept in the Vatican Apostolic Library (Archives of the Chapter of St. Peter’s in the Vatican), contains the whole text of the Vita Sancti Pauli Primi Eremitae of St. Jerome – though A. Poncelet places it among the unfinished manuscripts of the works of St. Jerome, while neither J.F. Cherf nor W.A. Oldfather make mention of it. The Basilicanus A. 6 (alias E) manuscript belongs to the „Q” family of the manuscript tradition of the Vita Sancti Pauli Primi Eremitae, established by J.F. Cherf, insofar as it possesses all the variations which are shared solely by the manuscripts codes belonging to this group. On a more technical level, this manuscript belongs to the first subgroup of the „Q” family, since it shares with it all the specific variations. As far as the manuscripts constituting the subgroup of the „Q” family are concerned, the Basilicanus A. 6 is more closely linked to the Vaticanus Latinus 1194 code rather than with the two remaining codes of the subgroup, namely the Vaticanus Latinus 5772 and the Vaticanus Latinus 6075. Nevertheless, the Basilicanus A. 6 cannot directly derive from the Vaticanus Latinus 1194, because it does not always coincide with it, and because it presents some meaningful additions, which are not found in the Vaticanus Latinus 1194.

Opis:
The above article discusses one of the aspects of the Vandals’ religious policy in Africa, that is, deportations of Catholic bishops ordered by the Vandal kings. Of course, the Vandal kings were Arians and the fact itself defined their attitude towards Catholic clergy in North Africa, which they occupied. Describing the background of these deportations, their course and other repression which befell Catholic clergy (and the faithful) in Africa in the middle of the fifth century, we can only rely on the sources of Catholic authors, who had a negative attitude to the Vandals and their leaders. They portrayed them as crude and bloodthirsty tyrants, or even as psychopaths. Discussing the deportations of bishops in the reign of Genseric and Huneric, the background of the events was also presented. It was deduced that the underlying reason for the persecution of Catholics was the Vandals’ urge to consolidate their power in Africa. The bishops deprived of their seats were deported by the Vandal kings to Numidia (to the grounds controlled by the Moors) or to the islands of the Mediterranean Sea (Corsica, Sardegna) which belonged to the Vandals’ state. There they were forced to hard physical work (work on the land, cutting down trees used to build ships). Many of them, however, did not reach the assigned places of exile – they died on the way from physical exhaustion.

Opis:
The article analyzes the most important aspects of the life of therapists, the Jewish precursors of Christian monasticism. The author advocates the datation of the De vita contemplativa for the years 40-41 of the first century and presents arguments for the authorship of Philo. Then he emphasizes the apologetic nature of the text and its content. The author is in favor of the hypothesis that therapists were not essenes, but a separate group of ascetics in Judaism of the 1st century AD. He is not convinced by the hypothesis that the Philo’s treaty is a literary fiction and the presentation of an ideal community. Too many details in the text contradict this opinion and even indicate that Philo himself knew the life of therapists from autopsy. Direct influence of therapists on Christian monastic life is impossible to demonstrate, while indirect influence manifests itself in the following elements poor clothing, modest meals: bread, salt and water, devoting little attention to the needs of the body - only as much as necessary for life, getting rid of ownership by giving it to the closest relatives, praying at sunrise, praying with hands raised to heaven, practicing allegorical exegesis of the Old Testament, living in continence. In the case of cenobites: common life under the direction of the superior, shared meals, common prayers, houses divided into a residential part and a monastery as a place of prayer.

Opis:
This study synthetically undertakes the main message of the encyclical of Saint John Paul II on the 25th anniversary of its announcement, March 25, 1995. The purpose of displaying and reminding was not only the celebration of the anniversary, but above all the fact that today this document reveals its extraordinary timeliness, perhaps greater than when it was published. Here, the prophetic charisma of Saint Pope John Paul II is revealed. Noticing certain socio-cultural phenomena dominating the world and the ideas in which they had their roots, the Polish Pope decided that it is right and necessary to remind the world about the message that the Church foretells about the mystery of man. This mystery reveals its splendor in the light of God’s revelation, i.e. the Gospel which is the Person of Christ himself. In our time, the Gospel of life sounds extremely loud and requires steadfast, convincing and persistent preaching to the world today.

The object of our reflection is the “dying process” of a dear one, as lived by himself, his family and the medical personnel, and as described and analysed by the psychologist E.
