Opis:
The article presents an analysis of three figures of Lucan version of the infancy narrative: Zechariah (Luc 1,5-23.57-79), Simeon (Luc 2,25-35), and Anna (Luc 2,36-38). There at least two thing that make these people alike: they are all in their old age and they pray to God. Even though the material concerning these personages is not fully comparable, it is possible to capture some similarities in their prayer: historical perspective, eschatological dimension, and universalism. All these three people not only pray to God but also the bear a witness to God.

Opis:
Lukan Mariology does not present a holistic picture of Jesus’ Mother, although no doubt it is fundamentally important for the narrative of Luke-Acts. The Infancy Narrative and the three further traditions disseminated in the main bulk of the Lukan work (Lk 8:21; 11:27-28; Acts 1:14) show that her person cannot be limited to her faith or motherhood only. The author of the third Gospel composed a careful set of scenes in order to share with his readers much fuller picture of Mary. Being a Mother of the Lord, she is also a disciple following God’s will and the teaching of her Son. In this study the author is looking for some fresh insights from the text applying methodology presented recently by C. Bennema and other scholars interested in the Gospels’ characters and their characterisation.

Opis:
The article presents the figure of Joseph and his place in the narrative by the first evangelist in Matt 1–2. Apart from the arguments for the unifying function of Mary’s spouse in the whole Infancy Narrative, the most important features of Joseph highlighted by Matthew are emphasised. Those include the attitude of the righteous man, the fact of belonging to the royal family of King David, the bond and similarity to the actions of the patriarchs, as well as the silent and ascetic nature of the spouse and parent. Despite many similarities to the Lukan narrative, the first evangelist stresses different aspects in his characterisation of Joseph. Using the tools proposed by Cornelis Bennema, the author of the paper also assesses the degree of characterisation of the person under study, his role in the narrative and his representative value for the modern reader.

Opis:
Whether God planned for people physical death and senility (are the death and senility a consequence of the original sin?) or not, is still an open question in modern theology. In the Infancy Narratives (Luke 1–2) the evangelist presents the four old persons: Zechariah, Elisabeth, Simeon, and Anne. Exegetical and theological examination of the texts concerning these individuals leads to some characteristics which are common for all or for most of them. Among them we can enumerate the following ones: remaining in God’s presence in Jerusalem temple, continuing to pray, being led and inspired by the Holy Spirit (prophecy included), expecting the coming of the Messiah and living according to the God’s Law (righteousness). It seems, however, that the most important characteristic of the old age is sensibility in recognizing God’s inspiration.
