Opis:
The Holy Spirit plays a significant role in the process of the ongoing formation of priests. His activity can be perceived in three aspects. (1) He strengthens the charism given during the ordination to the priesthood in such a way that the presbyter is in constant connection with the Father and with the Son. (2) The Third Person of the Holy Trinity raises anew the pastoral love which is necessary for fulfilling the mission of priesthood and which leads to (3) the deepening of the bond between the priest and God. This enhances the priest's pursuit of his own holiness. The priest should actively respond to the Holy Spirit, Who initiates the contact by his engagement, and he should cooperate with Him for the sake of the salvation of the faithful, in order to build God's Kingdom on earth.

Opis:
The author deals with the problem of the role played by foreign nations in the religious life of Israel as the people of  Yahwe . He examines the prophetic oracles of the Old Testament where the foreign nations were mentioned in a general way i. e. without their names (about 530 vs.). His conclusions are as follows: The idea that the alien nations were a tool of punishment i the hand of God appeared earlier in the prophetic writings than the idea that the alien nations were an object of Yahwe’s salvific care. Punishments and calamities sent by heaven upon sinful nations were a warning or a kind of instruction for Israel that Yahwe was the upright judge of all mankind. The nations, since they witnessed the special care of Yahwe toward the chosen People, exercised a greater or a lesser impact on the implementation of the convenant of Israel. This happened in two ways: negatively (bringing about in Israel feelings of horror, shame or fear of God) and positively (awaking an awarness of the duty to give a good example and to witness for God). In the later prophetic writings the idea emerged that the alien nations were to be gained for Yahwe, but this was more a passive than an active attitude. The prophetic utterences about the nations not mentioned by name were moral and religious admonitions and were not concerned with political affaires. Those admonitions, down the centuries, became more and more eschatological and at the time, they tended to stress the importance of cult.

Opis:

Prov 1–9
Opis:
The main goal the Israelite sages’ activity was to transmit knowledge of wisdom and to make people base their attitudes on wisdom principles. Pr. 1-9 contains a number of texts which make it possible to reconstruct the main lines of education in wisdom, a process that began in the family, continued at school and was then completed at various centres of public education. The authors of school texts drew on education in the family (1, 8-9; 4, 3-9; 6, 20-21), where the parents would educate their son to be obedient and disciplined and imparted to him basic knowledge of his duties. The wisdom education of a pupil under the guidance of a tutor and teacher followed a set course (2-7). Its aim was to develop and consolidate the pupil’s personality on the foundations of piety, discipline and personal contact with wisdom, which manifests itself in the knowledge of God and in justice. Religious consciousness and the ability to act correctly were the practical tests of a life of wisdom, immune to temptation from sinners and fools. The two speeches of personified wisdom (1, 20-33; 8,1-36) differ in style from the school teachings and we can find in them some principles of wisdom education intended for adults, whether opponents of wisdom or people already well advanced in its ways. A preliminary condition to undertake such education was to become converted at it were, that is to abandon inveterate vices and turn to wisdom, or at least willingly to listen to wisdom teachings and to embrace the instructions received. The principal aim of these was to strengthen justice, inspire the love of virtuous conduct concordant with the principles of wisdom and to ensure a happy life for every man, which can only be attained through God’s wisdom.

Opis:
The pontificate of Leo the Great (440-461) was one of the longest in the history of the Church. Since his days as Pope were difficult and complicated, Leo’s part in the civil and political events of the Roman Empire was significant. That time was also characterized by continuous christological debates and controversies in which Leo’s voice as that of the head of the Catholic Church was decisive. He considered it his fundamental duty to strengthen Christian faith through formation and spiritual direction of the faithful. It also involved the formation of Christian character. His Sermons clearly testify to St. Leo’s fundamental role as a spiritual guide who strives for the salvation of the souls of those who are called to perceive their earthly lives in the proper manner. This paper offers a detailed analysis of Sermons delivered on various occasions, including Advent, Lent or Ember days which were for Pope Leo an occasion for a systematic exercise of his responsibilities. The first part of the paper deals with Leo’s conception of the basis and goals of spiritual formation in the 5th c. The second part sets forth the main elements of the formation programme. Consequently, the ancient concept of Christian formation has been presented here with its practical adaptations as implemented in daily striving for holiness.

Opis:
Catechesis and religious education are two ways in which the ministry for the education for the faith is exercised, but within different physical contexts and with interlocutors coming from different backgrounds. Moreover, both catechesis and religious education share the same contents, which have been passed on to the interlocutors. This paper seeks to shed some light on the relationship between catechesis and religious education, in terms of their being distinct but at the same time complementary to each other. In this pursuit, we put forward arguments from both directions, those in favour of considering Catholic Religious Education and catechesis as identical and those viewing the two as distinct. The aim is to highlight the specific mission and role of each in education for the faith of the contemporary human being.

Opis:
Due to dynamic cultural changes and related religious transformation there are many attempts to create adequate system of Christian formation in Poland. Such formation should include both the teaching of religion in schools and catechesis realized in the parish. Teaching religion in schools is an irreplaceable form of catechesis, but should be complemented by a parish catechesis. Religious education should focus on the dialogue between faith and culture and above all strengthen the cognitive dimension of catechesis. The parish catechesis should place particular emphasis on Christian initiation and preparation for the sacraments. Only the complementary model of Christian formation involving religious education in school and catechesis in the parish gives hope for the effectiveness of formation.

Opis:
Każda czynność miała odniesienie do sfery duchowej. W konsekwencji powstało unikalne kompendium, mające na celu pomoc w formacji zakonnej, a jednocześnie ukazujące sposób ujęcia ideału życia mniszego w wileńskiej wspólnocie.
In 1744, Joanna Sybilla Reytanówna, a Vilnius Benedictine abbess, published a book entitled “Dyrekcya zakonnego życia” (“Directions on Religious Life”). The tome comprises a collection of practical texts which were useful in the all-day formation of novices, hence it primarily contains specific teachings on various ways of improving life in the convent. The teachings are accompanied by appropriate prayers. The practical nature of the book can also be presumed given its small format, which means it could be read in any situation – all the more as the recommended exercises had to be performed throughout the activities planned for the entire day, following the rhythm of life in the monastery. The basic group of issues addressed in “Dyrekcya zakonnego życia” was related to specific methods of structuring the community life. The book presents a practical link between every activity and the spiritual realm, e.g. teaching distinct methods of meditation and spiritual conversation. It also provides instruction on imitating the Benedictine ‚virtues’ broken down into separate months as well as on practising excellence (broken down into days of the week). In her treatise, Joanna Sybilla Reytanówna referred both to the formation ideals pursued in the Chełmno congregation and the teachings and prayer customs promoted by Benedictines, former convent confessors and other ascetic authors. As a result, she managed to compose a unique compendium aimed at facilitating religious formation in a convent, which, at the same time, presents the ideals of monastic life in the Vilnius community.

Opis:
The article focuses on the issue of Jesus as the master educator of his disciples in Mark 1:35-39. The study provided is based on the principles of narrative and contextual analysis. The article consists of three parts: (1) Analysis of Mark 1:35-39; (2) Mk 1:35-39 in the context of 1:14-20; (3) Jesus master educator in 1:35-39 in the context of the Gospel of Mark. The pericope shows a certain tension between what Jesus must accomplish in terms of his mission given by the Father and what his disciples expect from him. The attitude of Simon and his companions (Andrew, Jacob and John) is expressed in Peter’s actions (“pursued him [Jesus]”) and in the apostles’ common words: ““Everyone is looking for you” (1:37). He shows that they have not yet reached the ideal personality as proposed by Jesus, which should be expressed in the attitude of repentance and faith (cf. 1:15). Their attempt to limit Jesus’ mission to Capernaum shows also that they are not yet ready to meet the goal of their vocation i.e. become fishers of men. In such context, through his command “Let us go somewhere  else to the towns nearby, so that I may preach there also; for that is what I came for” (1:38), Jesus corrects their attitude and invites them to strengthen their bond with him in the perspective of a universal mission. In this way Jesus reveals himself as an educator, who encourages his disciples by his own example and his own words (encouragement, commands, reproaches, prohibitions and questions) to absolute clinging to him.

The author shows both how to accept the reply proposed by the new evangelization which challenges the present and how to carry it out as part of various catechetical activities of the Church in Poland. First, through the analysis of fundamental papal documents, he determines the character of the new evangelization. Then, he presents a reply of the new evangelization to contemporary problems with reference to Lineamenta prepared for the Synod of Bishops in 2012. He also explains how the catechesis can merge with the new evangelization, and analyses the tasks of catechesis, as described in the General Directory for Catechesis and adapted to Polish conditions.
