Just as the Father gives to Jesus the mission of salvation, He likewise empowers Him with the authorityto complete this task.Another point is the uniqueness ofthe authority of Jesus. He alone bas the power to govem not only the life and death o f all humani ty, but also His own. It is accomplished through the Resurrection.The finał aspect of our reflection is the delegation of Jesus' authority over life and death to his discip l es, w ho are sent by Him to continue His mission. This authority and mission originated by the Father, continues through Jesus in the community ofhis believers.

    L'autore presenta il probierna dell'autorita nel IV Vangelo e lo situa sullo sfondo della teologia di Giovanni. Si parte dall'individuare i testi, in cui si trova la parola exousia. La lettura di questi testi permette di discutere diversi aspetti dell'autorita presentati nel IV Vangelo: l'autorita del Padre, l'autorita del Figlio, l'autorita dei nemici di Dio e l'autorita dei discepoli. Il Padre e la Fonte e ił Soggetto dell'autorita, la quale comunica al Figlio. Gesu attraverso la sua missione, la quale culmina nella morte sulla croce, rivela l' essenza dell 'autorita com e Amore e Vita. In questo modo Gesu vince l'autorita delle tenebre e del peccato. La vittoriosa missione del Figlio si prolunga nella vita dei suoi discepoli, i quali grazie allo Spirito Santo partecipano nel mistero salvifico di Dio Padre.

    Judaism has never recognized Tobit as a canonical book, perhaps because of its roots in the northern Israel. Its reflections in the New Testament are scarce. Ancient Christian witnesses are usually favorable to the canonicity of the book of Tobit. It is present in many ancient biblical manuscripts (a, B, A, more then 30 minuscules). It was quoted by at least 79 authors, by many as Scripture. Some canon lists include it, other ones does not – when they are influenced by the Jewish canon. Some authors who failed to list Tobit in the canon have quoted it as Scripture. Accordingly, arguments for the canonicity prevail. Later ages accepted Tobit as canonical book. Protestants, despite some initial positive interest, have eliminated it. Tobit is canonical in the Catholic and Orthodox Churches. It contains valuable teachings, especially on family and marriage – it is the only biblical book concentrated on these subjects.

    The model of fatherhood in the Eastern Church of the first centuries was bound, on the one hand, to the biblical idea of God the Father and, on the other hand, to the image of the Church perceived as a household with the bishop being a father. At that point the three issues should be stressed: 1) The authority of bishop as a father is rooted in the authority of God the Father; 2) The fatherly care of bishop embraces not only religious issues but extends to all the needs of the community members; 3) Since the earthly Church serves so that an individual may meet God, the pastoral authority is exclusively at the service of the meeting between the Church and the heavenly Jerusalem. Fatherhood is a ministry of meeting and helping in growing up to the meeting between man and God.

    Synody Kościoła łacińskiego Afryki IV-VI w. świadczą, że ich uczestnicy byli przekonani, iż trzeba opierać się na autorytecie poprzedników i odwoływać się do Tradycji. Wyrażenie „ojcowie” (lub rzadkie formy analogiczne, takie jak chociażby „bracia” – ἀδελφοί, fratres) było synonimem „Tradycji”, ponieważ wiązało się ściśle z autorytetem soborów, w szczególności Pierwszego Soboru w Nicei, którego znaczenie dogmatyczne nie ma sobie równego w historii Kościoła. Konsekwencją uznania Pierwszego Soboru Nicejskiego za niepodważalną Tradycję jest nadanie wypowiedziom Ojców charakteru normatywnego obowiązującego nawet Kościół Rzymski. Lektura dokumentów synodów afrykańskich ujawnia coraz wyraźniejsze precyzowanie wyznaczników Tradycji: apostolskiego pochodzenia, starożytności, powszechnej akceptacji. Ale to przede wszystkim uznanie działania Ducha świętego w kolegium synodalnym nadaje Tradycji moc wiążącą i pozwala na utożsamienie jej z wiarą i prawdą. Dokumentacja synodów afrykańskich stanowi decydujący krok w ewolucji relacji między Rzymem a innymi biskupstwami w zakresie prymatu jurysdykcyjnego czy autorytatywnej roli Rzymu. W swoich ostatecznych reperkusjach kwestia ta jest więc zabarwiona tonami eklezjologicznymi i ekumenicznymi. Omawiane teksty, przechodzące od uwarunkowań dyscyplinarnych i egzystencjalnych do centralnego problemu autorytetu w Kościele, pozwalają odkryć ogromny wkład Kościoła afrykańskiego w starożytną myśl chrześcijańską tego złotego wieku, w którym działali tacy Ojcowie, jak Aureliusz, Alipiusz, czy sam Augustyn.
    The series of texts from the synods of the African Latin Church that speak of appealing to the Fathers contain strong arguments that irrefutably testify to the fact that the synodal fathers were convinced that it was always necessary to rely on the authority of the Fathers who lived earlier and to refer to the indisputable Tradition. We also learn from them that the expression “fathers” (or rare analogous forms such as, for example, “brothers” – ἀδελφοί, fratres) is synonymous with “Tradition”, since it is closely associated with the authority of the Councils, in particular the First Council of Nicaea, whose essential dogmatic significance is unparalleled in the history of the Church. The consequence of recognising the First Council of Nicaea as indisputable Tradition is to give the statements of the Fathers a normative character binding even on the Roman Church. A reading of the documents of the African synods reveals an increasing clarification of the determinants of Tradition: apostolic origin, antiquity, universal acceptance. But it is above all the recognition of the action of the Holy Spirit in the synodal college that gives Tradition its binding force and allows it to be identified with faith and truth. The documentation of the African synods represents a decisive step in the evolution of the relationship between Rome and other bishoprics in terms of jurisdictional primacy or the authoritative role of Rome. In its ultimate repercussions, the issue is thus tinged with ecclesiological and ecumenical tones. The texts discussed here allow us to discover the enormous contribution of the African Church to the ancient Christian thought of this golden age, in which Fathers such as Aurelius, Alypius and Augustine himself were active.
