Opis:
In this article there is discussed the influence of ionic liquids on natural environment on the basis of detailed analysis of the literature information and the results of the Authors' researches carried out within the framework of the development and research project no. PBR/15-249/2007/WAT-OR00002904 financed by Ministry of Science and Higher Education during 2007-2011. The literature information about toxic features of ionic liquids is very skimpy, but the detailed analysis of it and the results of our own researches allow us to say that not all ionic liquids should be treated as fully environmentally friendly substances. Among these substances, there are non-toxic and moderately toxic but there are very toxic liquids, too. Therefore, uncritical rating all ionic liquids among Green Chemistry is inappropriate. The test results of ionic liquids ecotoxicity were compared with the results obtained for standard oils used at lubrication technologies, particularly at motorization. All reference oils, according to EU classification, were non-toxic. The tests were carried out in accordance with OECD 202 European normative document, which recommends carrying out the tests for Daphnia Magna crustaceans. There were carried out: acute immobilization tests to Daphnia Magna, calculation of the effective concentrations EC50-t and evaluation of ionic and reference liquids toxicity with regard to used bioindicators

Opis:
In this article there is discussed a possibility of forming the liquid crystal structure in ionic liquids and its influence on performance characteristics, especially tribological, of these liquids. Formation of such thermal phase might influence on, among other things, easier creation of the boundary lubricating film, which is characterized by high viscous anisotropy. The results of tribological tests showed better lubricity of selected ionic liquids than modern PFPE oils. Identification of mesophase in ionic liquids was necessary. This method is described in the paper. Biolar PL polarizing interference microscope with thermal stabilizing table, with birefraction system, and Brüker Discover 8 powder diffraction instrument with a Cu lamp and monochromator were used. There was being searched the state characterized simultaneously by optical anisotropy properties and liquid state of aggregation. For identification of phase transition temperature, the additional calorimetric tests were carried out during the cycle of heating and cooling. These researches were carried out within the framework of the development and research project no. PBR 15-249/2007/WAT-OR0002904, financed by Ministry of Science and Higher Education during 2007-2011.

Opis:
Scientific problems considered in this paper presenting the achievements are mainly focused on comparisons of tribological processes, which occur during flow of biological fluids around joint cartilage cells during lubrication of human joint surfaces as well as surfaces of micro- and nano-bearings used in micro-mechanisms. The tissue growth presented in this paper is the process of change of mass of a biological system defined by genetic (congenital) factors and dependent on epigenetic (environmental) factors (temperature, mechanical stress and strain, internal and external physical fields, etc.). This paper shows effects of influence of congenial growth and genetic code of bio-bearing or bio-joints material on the lubricant viscosity and lubricant process. In living tissues there is a growth strain defined by genetic code and depending on many other factors (such as temperature, force factors, chemical substances, etc.). A general theory of materials with memory is the theory of simple fluid developed by Noll and Koleman. The simple fluid theory described in this paper is based on the assumption that stress is defined by a whole deformation history.

Opis:
The paper discusses the results of the studies on the surface properties and lubricating abilities of five ionic liquids compared to a high quality gear oil: Mobilube 1SHC 75W90 and two base oils: PAO-6 and SN-650. The investigated ionic liquids were: 1) tetrafluoroborate 1- benzyl-3-methylmidazolium, 2) bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide 3-methyl-1- propylpyridinium, 3) bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide 1,2-dimethyl-3-propylimidazolium, 4) bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide trihexyltetradecylphosphonium), 5) tetrafluoroborate trihexyltetradecylphosphonium. The density, surface tension and wetting angle as well as dynamic and kinematic viscosity were measured. Next, the lubricity properties were evaluated using the four-ball tester. The research results showed the more better lubricity properties of ionic liquids than the base oils. The research results showed the more better lubricity properties of ionic liquids than the base oils. The ionic liquids had the comparable properties to a high quality gear oil. Obtained results of these preliminary studies confirmed a possibility of using selected ionic liquids as new lubricants. These compounds can probably replace the lubricants used so far and find a wide scope of application in lubrication technology in the future. However, particular implementations require further complex studies.

Opis:
Controllable fluids (smart liquids) are the substances that change their properties under the influence of external physical fields. Changes of these liquids properties take place in a controlled manner and they are fully reversible. The ability to changing nature of work is a very important aspect that determines their vast application possibilities. It also makes they are occupying significant place in the modern engineering. Content of this report has been in turn devoted to systematization information on the properties and work of magnetically activated controllable fluids. There have been highlighted some commonalities and differences between two basic types of magnetic fluids (ferro- and magnetorheological fluids). Essential areas of controllable fluids application and their production methods have also been presented within this notice. It seems to be more than reasonable to explore this title issue using new methods of research and observations. They in fact directly create another chances for discovery unknown features or simply adapting the existing ones to current technical expectations. What are also important, smart liquids can be threaten as highly advanced materials which synthesis cover manipulation on the already known substances and do not cause any environmental pollution. Discovered over sixty years ago, they still signalize a great potential to development.

Opis:
This paper presents the results of comparative investigations on the lubricity and energetic superficial properties of selected petroleum products and new ionic liquids (ILs). Three base oils from polish petroleum refinery (PAO—6, SN-650, SN—350) and lubricity additive (Additin RC2515 EP) have been investigated comparatively to four ionic liquids with imidazolium organic cations and different inorganic anions, i. e. bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide and tetrafluoroborate. The lubricating ability properties petroleum products and ionic liquids have been assessed according to Polish Standard PN-76/C-04 1 47 (ASTMD2596-69 and ASTM D2270-77) on Four-Ball Testing machine. The investigation range of lubricity properties are limited to the assessment only two parameters i. e. P(t) - seizure load for increasing continuous loading and G(oz) - wear limiting load capacity. The superficial properties of oil compounds and ionic liquids have been assessed by means of modern KSV Sigma 701 Tensiometer. Surface tension o and wetting angle fi were assessed. The obtained results confirmed the possibilities of using tested ionic liquids as lubricants. The best lubricity properties, close to properties of Additin RC2515, had 1—methyl— 3—oktyloxymethylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate.

Curvilinear bone heads

Opis:
This paper presents the optimization, simulation and practical application of operating parameters(load carrying capacity, friction forces, friction coefficient, wear) for hydrodynamic intelligent articular and artificial bio-bearing joints with curvilinear nano-shaped surfaces. One of the reason of such bone head and endoprosthese profile is that this profile contributes to the variation (an increase or decrease) the memory joint capacity. Such properties are very important and required in human joints. A general theory of materials with memory is the theory developed by Noll and Koleman. The simple solid body and liquid theory presented in this paper is based on the assumption that stress is defined by a whole deformation history. The changes of bio-bearing superficial surfaces presented in this paper are described by the process of changes of mass of a body system defined by non-Newtonian synovial liquid properties and its genetic (congenital) factors, which depends on epigenetic (environmental) factors (temperature, mechanical stress and strain, internal and external physical fields, etc.). Scientific problems considered in the paper are mainly focused on comparisons and practical applications of tribological processes, which occur during fluid flow around cells lubrication on the nano-surfaces in nano-bearings, as well as surfaces of bio-bearings.
