Opis:
Article presents results of numerical analyses of the finite elements mesh density influence on the shaped charge jet stream formation process and its selected parameters. Authors considered classical shaped charge, which consists of the plastic explosive material, copper liner and aluminium case. To properly described, material properties of the liner and case of the shaped charge, the Johnson-Cook material model was used. Detonation process was described using burn model approach. Behaviour of the detonation process products was described by commonly used John-Wilkins-Lee equation of state. Due to the nature of the presented phenomenon, in which we are dealing with large strains and strain rates, for its modelling authors utilized Euler description, implemented in the LS-Dyna software. In these method material flows by the finite elements and mesh is not deformed. Such approach allows for modelling phenomena where large and very large deformations occur. Unfortunately, it can result in a destabilizing of the systems energy balance. In order to minimize dissipation processes, in calculations was used second order scheme because of the spatial variables and time. Analyses were performed in axially symmetric setup, which was possible due to the symmetry of the analysed system. Influence of the finite elements size on the process of jet stream formation and its selected parameters was analysed.

Opis:
During the process of the shaped charge jet stream formation and creation of the explosive formed projectiles, we have to deal with strain rates reaching level of 107 1/s and strains larger than in other dynamic phenomena. Therefore, the correct numerical analyses of such problems are especially demanding, both in terms of preparation of the numerical model and time needed for obtaining the solution. For their execution, both meshfree and Euler description based computational methods are used. Due to very large deformations and associated with them numerical analyses errors, computational methods based on the Lagrange description are not used. Description of the materials behaviour has to take into account influence of the strain rate in wide range of parameters. In most cases, it is realized by using in computational analyses Johnson-Cook or Steiberg-Green constitutive models. These models provide an accurate description of the material parameters not only in the wide range of strain rates, but also in large scope of strains and temperatures. Article presents results of the numerical analyses concerning the influence of selected numerical and geometric parameters of the system on the process of shaped charge jet stream formation and creation of explosive formed projectile.

This paper describes the experimental method - using non-thermal plasma reactor to cleaning exhaust gases - focused on PM compound. The demonstrator NTP reactor assembly was built as the by-pass in the real exhaust gas after-treatment system, in marine diesel engine. The reactor used to experiment is called - DBD (dielectric barrier discharge) type, The main aim of investigation was to analyze exhaust gas PM compounds under steady load of the engine. Test bench construction enables direct exhaust stream (main exhaust duet by-pass) to plasma reactor exposure with no additional components (coolers, orifices) that can change the exhaust gas properties. A new monitoring PM analyzing system, which can measure soot and SOF in low mass level, has been engaged. It consist of a diffusion charging (DC) detector with a dilution device for soot measurement, and two differential flame ionization detection (FID) method, which uses two FID detectors with separate sample lines. Exhaust emission reduction strategy for ships, Particulate Matters - PM in exhaust gas, non-thermal plasma reactor, experimental test bed and procedure, an example of reactor power measurement, test results provided into seven stages are presented in the paper.

Regulations concerning the limitation of harmful compounds emission contained in exhaust gases become more restrictive. This is observed within regulations regarding land-based installations and also rules applied to ships of global trade fleet. Other restrictions of vessels emissions, enclosed in rules set out in Annex IV of Marpol Convention 73/78 are gradually implemented and establish emission limits for ship engines. The boiler delivers the heat energy required for fuel preparation for main and auxiliary engines - and also by consuming fuel in its combustion chamber becomes and emitter. This article describes the anticipated methodology of the boiler steam efficiency, depending on the main engine installed. Additionally, fuel oil consumption analysis in various steam capacity range performed using the histograms. The histograms were produced on the basis of service reports of similar units, and combining fuel oil consumption with exhaust emission during operation. A vessel engine report includes monthly machinery abstract and is compiled for a ship-owner on the basis of the log book records. Quantified exhaust emission from auxiliary oil fired boiler contributes determination the overall emissions from a ship.

Opis:
A short-term load will be considered as one which duration is comparable with the period corresponding with the first natural frequency of the construction. These loads often cause extreme conditions, situated locally or in the whole construction. The values of these extremes decide about the safety of the construction and their definition is essential when designing as well as exploitation. For example the marine constructions have to efficiently oppose the dangers connected to air and underwater explosion. The knowledge regarding the evaluation of the sensitivity of the construction and its ability to withstand the collision is also demanded. Collision is a crash of two ships, a ship crashing against the quay or a ship coming across a mine. In the first two cases we have a mass load while in the third one it is a load of pressure impulse caused by the mine's explosion. At present both kinds of load are called an impact load and the sensitivity of the construction is called an impact resistance. Nevertheless, it is to be noticed that mass loads are at least ten times longer in time than the pressure impulse loads. The constructions taken into consideration (picture 1.1 - 1.6) are usually geometrically complicated and the complex character of the load is mostly not completely described. It is therefore essential to use the simplifications while elaborating the calculation model. These simplifications concern geometry, properties of the material, the conditions of cooperation of the environment (solid body - liquid, solid body - base) and the load. The discrete model describing the purpose of the constructions' dynamics has various singularities that often have only numerical character and follow the discretisation of time and space. When perceiving these singularities it is easier to get a credible solution not confusing the numerical effects with the mechanical ones. The most common disadvantageous effect is artificial pumping of energy to the considered structure which is due to the rounding off the numerical errors. It causes intense rise of the movement parameters and dispersion of the solution - the loss of stability, which is necessary for the solution to converge. In the work, some of the cases from this scope are considered. The presented considerations are illustrated with adequate examples.
Model dyskretny opisujący zadanie dynamiki konstrukcji posiada różne osobliwości mające czysto numeryczny charakter a wynikające z dyskretyzacji czasu i przestrzeni.

Energy Efficiency Design Index
Opis:
In general, the performance of a ship in service is different from that obtained on shipyard sea trial. Apart from any differences due to loading conditions, and for which due correction should be made, these differences arise principally from the weather, fouling and surface deterioration of the hull and propeller. The influence of the weather, both in terms of wind and sea conditions, is an extremely important factor in ship performance analysis. Consequently, the weather effects needs to be taken into account if a realistic evaluation is to be made. The primary role of the ship service analysis is a standard of performance data, under varying operational and environmental conditions. The resulting information, derived from this data, becomes the basis for operational and chartering decision. In addition, the part for the data records is to enable the analysis of trends of either the hull or machinery, from which the identification of potential failure scenarios and maintenance decisions can be derived. The traditional method of data collection is the deck and engine room log records, and this is the most commonly used method today. In terms of data processing and capabilities, this method of data collection is far from ultimate, since involves significant data distortion risk. Instrumentation errors are always a potential source of concern in performance analysis methods. Such errors are generally in the form of instrument drift or gross distortion of the reading. However, these can generally be detected by the use of trend analysis techniques. The procedure for the evaluation of the ship's service performance, that relies on proven methods of main propulsion engine service data analysis used and applied for container vessel - small feeder. The vessel is equipped with indirect main propulsion, driven by means of modern medium speed engine. The different approach demonstrated to achieve the reliable and accurate main engine performance. The difference in developed engine power has been found, that corresponds well to registered sea trial results and engine retrofitting reports done, in order to limit the effective power.

The work presents the fragments of research on the dynamic loads acting on selected military vehicles. Designing new armoured vehicles or introducing modifications is preceded by model tests carried out under various conditions, analysing the effect of dynamic loads which may result during the use of the vehicle, e.g. due to the roughness of the road, firing, IED explosions or the vehicle being hit by a shell. The main purpose of conducting model research and verifying their findings in experimental research is to improve the effectiveness and safety of operation of systems and installations of military vehicles, increase the dynamics of the movement, improve the protection and ensure that the crew is not killed. Among the used models of military vehicles, discrete models are applied, formulated in the adjusted Lagrange description, as well as the models based on the fine element method for highly nonlinear problems and forces acting for a very short time. Due to the unique selection of military equipment, the methods of calculation and analysis of model research (simulations) and experimental research presented in the work are considered qualitative rather than quantitative.

High accident index in Poland, including one of the highest death rates in EU, forces undertaking the intense works in order to improve traffic safety. Published road accident statistics indicate that the most dangerous accidents include a vehicle collision with a tree, post or other road object. The road safety barriers make the road infrastructure elements that can signiflcantly protect against that type of accidents. The work presents basie tasks and requirements imposed on the barriers. Problems related to a proper selection of the barriers have been also highlighted. The tools facilitating the barrier design include numerical modelling. The modelling has been done by means of the LS-DYNA software, using the finite element method. A general structure and a developed barrier model as well as vehicle model have been presented. The conditions of the numerical tests have been also specifled. The work presents the results of influence of car impact angle with a rigid safety barrier. Presented results refer to a car o f mas s of 900 kg, making a bas is for the tests of the limiting systems for several limiting levels: including normal limit N2 (according to EN 1317-2). Compared to standard requirements, the scope of numerical tests has been extended by other car impact angle values. The work presents vehicle trajectories and deformations of their bodies. It also includes examples of velocities and acceleration courses and acceleration severity indexes (ASI) calculated on their basis. Obtained results indicate that the barrier location angle has a high influence on the safety level ofthe car passengers as well as on the car motion trajectory after collision

The work describes the experimental test methodology and results obtained during the experimental crash tests involving passenger cars and the prototype concrete protective barrier, which was built according to the original design prepared by the authors of this article. The crash tests involving a vehicle and the protective barrier cover the experiment results in three basic areas: severity ofthe collision impact on vehicle passengers, the impact on a vehicle and deformation of the road protective system. Applied testing procedures meet the requirements of the national standards, that make the equivalents of the European standards EN-1317-1:1998, EN-1317-2:1998, EN-J 317-3:2000. The tests have been performed for selected crash criteria (TB11 and TB32), for a normal restrain level (N2), using three passenger's cars (Dodge Neon and 2 units of Suzuki Swift). Applied testing procedures meet the requirements of the national standards [1-5]. The work presents examples of experimental test results in three basie areas: intensity of the crash impact on the vehicle passengers, the impact on a vehicle and deformation of the road protective system. The test results have been presented in a form of courses of speeds and accelerations along the vehicle body axes x, y, z. Acceleration severity index (ASI), theoretical head impact velocity (THIV), post-impact head delay (PHD), vehicle cabin deformation index (VCDI) and deformation levels of the road protective system (W) have been also defined.

Large seagoing vessels are one of the largest pollution sources in the sea environment world. Marine engines operate with extremely low quality fuels contaminated by sulphur and aromatic compounds. Vessels are responsible for an estimated 14 percent total nitrogen oxide emission and 16 percent sulphur oxide, respectively. Nitrogen oxides emissions cause serious problems including acid rain in local areas such as harbours' vicinity. All diesel engine manufacturers have been working on reducing on NOx from ships. This paper describes one of the experimental methods - using non-thermal plasma reactor. NTP reactor was built as the after-treatment module in exhaust gas system in marine diesel engine. Emission measurements were carried out on the engine with and without demonstrator NTP module. The main aim was to analyze exhaust gas compounds during real engine operation, in accordance with test cycles procedureD-2 and E-2 (ISO-8178 rules). The experiment test bench gives the innovative role in the development exhaust gas after-treatment technology for marine systems. One of the most promising methods to decrease the number of toxic compounds from exhaust gas is implementing of NTP reactor as after main treatment module. As the next steps a two-stage plasma-chemical process for the control of harmful compounds: non-thermal plasma reactor and catalyst is proposed. This combination should be more effective and probably gives reduction with more efficiency of harmful exhaust gas compounds.

Military vehicles are mostly designed in order to provide effective execution of tasks in regions of expected actions and operation conditions. During execution of projects, resulting from participation in peace making and stabilization missions, military vehicles are subject to the impact of various mines and improvised explosives. In many cases, the explosive material mass included in the explosive charges affecting the vehicles significantly exceeds the values specified in standards defining the required protection levels assumed at the design stage. The above determines the search for additional shields or energy-absorbing elements reducing the effects of such influence. Information concerning design solutions is usually classified or very limited. Majority of companies dealing with that issue provides information concerning the scope of their business, highlighting the military area thus high efficiency of their protective solutions, possibly presenting a general outline of a particular solution. Opis:
The control of nox emissions from marine engines proves a challenge. Diesel engine manufacturers have been investigating a variety of methods with aim of reducing nox emissions. Currently, the plasma technology is undergoing rapid development in application to diesel engine exhausts. A combination of non-thermal plasma with catalysts can be referred to plasma assisted catalysts technology. This paper briefly describes research efforts aimed at non-thermal plasma reactor development for ship use with primary focus on NO oxidation condition. The part scale plasma reactor models have been designed and manufactured for the purpose of this trial. Exhaust emission plasma after-treatment module was fitted on exhaust outlet path of the marine test bed engine for fractional exhaust gas stream examination. Subsequently, the comprehensive series of trials were performed to assess the exhaust flow properties of the main exhaust channel and plasma reactor by-pass duct. Emission measurements were carried out on engine at steady-state operation. The NO reaction activity was a major task of the experiment and throughout the measurements, the engine outlet nox levels (NO and NO2) were monitored with simultaneous NO, NO2, N2O level recording after NTP reactor.
