criteria of mechanical and thermal load of the engine
tribological criteria of piston-crank combustion
engine system
Opis:
The following article includes the analysis of mechanical and thermal load criteria of combustion engine. Those criteria have been divided into tribological, technical in detail and technical in general. The above criteria have been related to piston-con-rod system, in which, two tribological centres were specified. One centre included, piston-piston rings and cylinder, in which, piston rings serve as labyrinth seal and the cylinder constitutes piston guides. Crank bearings and main bearings of engine crankshaft constitute the second centre. From the point of tribological view, piston-piston rings and cylinder constitute slide and thrust bearing lubricated hydrodynamically, while crankshaft bearings a-c-t as slide and journal bearings also lubricated hydrodynamically. In the description of thermal load of the above-mentioned tribological centres, special attention was paid to criteria that ensure their motion reliability and durability of engine operation. Whereas in the description of mechanical load of elements constituting investigated centres, some criteria were determined resulting from their functionality and fatigue strength of the material they were made of. Criteria of thermal loads were based on mean density flux of heat conducted through the walls of engine elements, paying attention to their low precision of evaluation. It has been emphasized that synthetic criteria indicators are the most precise. They are determined on the basis of engine load measurements during its operation. Those criteria allow us to describe the operating process of con-rod-piston diesel engines and at the same time it is possible to expose their technical condition which is of essential practical meaning. The wear process of tribological centres that takes place during operating in piston-con-rod system, affects the course of engine working process and its techno-economic indicators.

Opis:
Engine operation in HCCI mode allows for improvement of thermal efficiency and substantial reduction NOX emission. The most production feasible solution for gasoline HCCI engine is application of exhaust gas trapping using a negative valve overlap. This technique increases thermal energy of a mixture, thus allowing for auto-ignition at moderate compression ratios. However, high exhaust gas re-circulation rate decreases volumetric efficiency. As a result, achievable engine loads are also reduced. Supercharging can be applied in order to improve volumetric efficiency and extend high load limit. However, increase of amount of intake air can lead to reduction of start of compression temperature via decrease of residuals in a mixture. In order achieve HCCI mode of combustion, temperature of start of compression must be kept within narrow limits. In this study experimental and modeling investigations were presented. Experiments were carried out using single cylinder research engine. The engine was equipped with fully variable valvetrain and direct gasoline injection. Application of mechanical boosting allowed for widening achievable load range in HCCI mode of operation. Numerical calculations allowed for determination of admissible valvetrain settings and intake pressure, which guarantee proper temperature of start of compression.

Opis:
The article examines the effect of the change in the speed of deformation on the mechanical properties of AW 6060 alloy specimens, characterized by high mechanical strength, which is a material used in the shipbuilding industry. The theoretical basis for the influence of load speed on the mechanical properties of materials is presented. Static and dynamic tensile test was conducted on a universal testing machine. Dynamic stretching was performed on samples at 10–1 s–1 – 102 s–1. Done charts and tables showing results. Calculated in accordance with DIN EN ISO 6892-1 2010P total elongation and contraction of the sample. Comparison of the results of the study with the current knowledge of the subject. Material studies have shown that increasing the deformation rate results in an increase in the yield point and tensile strength. On the basis of calculations of the narrowing and elongation of the total sample, the material can be strengthened. The rate of deformation of the materials is favourable for their strengthening by increasing the limit of tensile strength. Given that most of the design is subject to dynamic loads and the aluminum alloy AW 6060 finds extensive use in shipbuilding and beyond, these are satisfactory results.

Opis:
The article presents preliminary results of investigation on structure, morphology and mechanical properties of boron nitride thin films prepared by pulsed laser deposition on various steel substrates. In order to improve adhesion and reduce internal stresses, substrates were subjected to gas nitriding. To increase gas ionization in the chamber and provide the deposited particles with higher energy RF discharge generator was used. Structure and morphology of coatings were examined by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Mechanical properties like nanohardness (sclerometric) and elastic modulus (using approach curves) were characterized by UNMT. Adhesion of coatings was measured by scratch tests; critical load was determined on the basis of microscopic observation and friction force and acoustic emission runs. On the basis of obtained results, possibility of using steel as substrate for BN thin films deposition was confirmed. Stable, crystalline, multiphase coatings with good adhesion to the steel substrate were obtained. It was also proved that mechanical properties of prepared coatings and their adhesion to the substrates strongly depend on the type of the substrate. In the next stage tribological properties of BN, coatings will be examined in particular in terms of wear resistance and friction coefficient between coatings and steel.
