Opis:
The study presents experimental studies on a regular cross-ply laminate of a [(0/90) F]4S configuration. Each layer is made of VE 11-M vinylester resin (the manufacturer: "Organika-Sarzyna" Chemical Plants) reinforced with aplain carbon fabric (the manufacturer: C. Cramer GmbH & Co. KG Division E CC). The carbon fabric has the following parameters: Styles 430, filament Carbon 6K, substance 300 g/m , warp and weft 400/400 tex, 3.7/3.7 band/cm. Laminate was produced by ROMA private enterprise using the vacuum molding technology and technological parameters developed by ROMA taking into account the VE l J-M material specification. A program of the experimental studies was aimed on statistical analysis of measurement results of the in-plane shear modulus and the in-plane shear strength of the laminate. In investigations, the in-plane shear test was carried out in accordance to the PN-EN ISO 14129:1997 standard [1], but applying the modified procedure that takes into consideration the results of the previous research on the influence of a traverse velocity and of a number of stress cycles on static measurements of the in-plane shear modulus [2]. The mean value, the standard deviation and the two-sided 95 percent confidence interval for the mean value for the investigated quantities have been determined. Practical usefulness ofthe manufacture technology of the laminate was assessed.

This paper presents experimental investigations of mechanical properties of materials used in the absorbing energy structures. Numerous experimental investigations are essential to develop a reliable numerical model of composite structures absorbing the impact energy. This model should correctly describe the dissipation of kinetic impact energy in the progressive crush process. Mechanical properties of composite materials like elastic modulus, strength, failure strains with influence of anisotropic properties are obtained experimentally. Different strength hypotheses are used for fibrous composites. The investigations on the complex stress state allow determining which of these theories describes the composite best. It was proved that both the matrix type and the structure of the composite have a very large influence on the SEA (Specific Energy Absorption), in particular on their crack propagation resistance. The dependence between the energy absorbed by a single energy absorbing element and a fragment of the structure absorbing the impact energy was discussed. Friction forces play the important role in the progressive crush of composites and they should be taken into account in developing a valid numerical model. Some authors state that the friction forces absorb 40% of the impact energy. The influence of failure strain rates on the absorbing energy capability, which is not clearly defined in the literature about composite structures, was also discussed.

The paper presents some experimental studies on a regular cross-ply laminate of the [(0/90)F] 4S configuration. The orthotropic laminate was produced by ROMA private enterprise In Grabowiec, Poland, using the vacuum molding method and the technological parameters developed by ROMA taking into account the VE 11-M material specijication. The PN-EN ISO 14129:1997 standard [1] and closely related standards [2-9] were taken into consideration in experimental studies on the static in-plane shear response by a tensile test of a [(plus or minus 45)F]nS laminate. A program of the experiments was focused on testing a rate of a testing machine crosshead and a number of static stress cycles. An influence of these factors on the in-plane shear modulus was investigated. Based on the conducted investigations, the modified experimental procedure has been proposed for determination of the correct value of the in-plane shear modulus and the in-plane shear strength.

In the paper, experimental investigation of the energy absorption capability of carbon-epoxy and glass-epoxy composites was described. Influence of the following factors on the energy absorption capability was analysed: fibre reinforcement type, kind of structure, geometry and shape of specimens, orientation of fibres in a layer and stacking sequence of layers. Specimens in a shape of tubes and truncated cones were selected for testing. The basic mechanical properties of composites designed for elements of energy absorbing structure, essential for numerical simulation of the failure mechanism during the crash test, were determined experimentally. The favourable effect of the failure initiator, made at the specimen's edge, causing the increase in the specific absorbed energy (SAE), as well as the influence of the thickness of individual layers of the layered composite on the SAE value were also investigated. In the tests for truncated cone specimens, the influences of the specimen's thickness on the SAE value were analysed.
W pracy opisano doświadczalne badania zdolności pochłaniania energii przez kompozyty węglowo-epoksydowe i szklano-epoksydowe, których porównano wyniki badań. Na wartość pochłaniania energii przeanalizowano wpływ, takich czynników jak: rodzaj włókien wzmacniających, rodzaj struktury, geometria i kształty próbek, orientacja włókien w warstwie i sekwencja układania warstw. Przyjęto do badań próbki w postaci rurek i ściętych stożków. Doświadczalnie określono podstawowe właściwości mechaniczne kompozytów, przeznaczonych na elementy konstrukcji energochłonnej, które są niezbędne do numerycznej symulacji mechanizmu niszczenia, występującego podczas badań zdolności pochłaniania energii w czasie uderzenia. Badano też korzystny wpływ inicjatora niszczenia, wykonanego na krawędzi próbki, który powoduje zwiększenie wartości względnej energii absorbowanej (WEA). Zbadano wpływ grubości poszczególnych warstw kompozytu warstwowego na wartość WEA. W badaniach próbek w postaci ściętych stożków, analizowano wpływ grubości ścianki i połówkowego kąta stożka na wartość WEA.

Numerical analysis of selected type of the polyurethane rail pad is presented in the paper. A shaped pad with cylindrical-shaped elements in its working section was selected as a representative for the computational simulation. Analysis reflected the experimental test according to the valid standard. The test included loading of the vertical force perpendicular to the foot of the rail. Such test allows determining the static stiffness of the pad. The Mooney - Rivlin material model was selected in the current study. Necessary experimental tests including a uniaxial compression and tension were conducted to provide material constants for the hyperelastic material model applied for the FE model. Simplified FE models of the considered rail pad and the rail were developed. Rounded corners and edges of the cylindrical-shaped elements were omitted, since their modelling required a significant density of the FE mesh. Vertical force perpendicular to the foot of the rail was declared as nodal force distributed evenly along the edges of the selected finite element models Non-linear static analysis was performed using MSC.Marc software with large displacements and deformations taken into consideration. The obtained results allowed estimating deformations and the state of stress in a highly deformed rail pad. The static stiffness of the pad was defined as secant stiffness based on the vertical force - deflection curve.

The study presents preliminary experimental range tests of a system for testing protective shields for light armoured vehicles. The shields are designed against HE mines and IEDs up to 10 kg TNT. The system consists of the multiple-use portable range stand, a protected Armox 500T plate and a protective shield. The latter consists of the following main layers: PA11 aluminum, the SCACS hybrid laminate, ALPORAS aluminum foam, and the SCACS hybrid laminate. The layers are connected together with SOUDASEAL chemo-set glue. Overall dimensions of the test stand are ~ 800x800x180 mm, the protected plate has dimensions 650x650x5 mm, and a protective shield is of 450x450x76 mm dimensions. The system rests on a St3 steel plate stiffening the range subsoil. The range stand designed to be resistant up to 10 kg TNT blasts is composed of three appropriately shaped rigid frames connected with six high strength erection bolts. The explosive charge is suspended centrally at 400 mm distance from the top surface of the stand. Two range tests have been performed, i.e.: 1) the protected plate without a protective shield under 2 kg TNT blast shock wave, 2) the protected plate with the protective shield under 2 kg TNT blast shock wave. The effectiveness of the protective shield is assessed via comparing the maximum plastic deflection of the protected plate in both systems. The experimental results have been used to validate the FE model of the system.

In this study, the impact performance of layered structures made of aramid/epoxy, S2 glass/epoxy, Dyneema and steel subjected to high velocity impact is presented. All materials were previously examined using proper techniques of strength tests. The procedure allowed determining Young’s moduli, Poisson’s ratio, ultimate compression and tension strength, shear modulus. The ballistic test procedure was based on standards for testing panels and armour plates. For the purpose of ballistic tests, standard 5.56 NATO ammunition (183 g) was used. The aim of presented work was to determine ballistic performance of different structures under bullet impact. During the tests, subsequent time moments were recorded using Phantom V12 high-speed camera. When structure penetration did occur, the residual velocity of bullet was measured using PVM-21 lightscreen. Basing on the results, each material performance was evaluated. This paper reviewed a number of mechanisms that influence the ballistic performance of ballistic textiles. The composites reinforced with continuous fibres (aramid, S2 glass) could effectively absorb the kinematic energy of bullet. The efficiency of energy absorption for each types of material in the order from highest is as follows: polyethylene fibres Dyneema HB50, composite reinforced with S2 glass fibres, composite reinforced with aramid fibres.

The paper presents experimental static tests of IED interrogation arm for Shiba special vehicle. The test was performed by Military University of Technology and Military Institute of Engineer Technology. A number of strain gauges and camera markers were placed on the arm to allow recording strains and movements of specific construction points. The arm's motion was recorded using high speed camera. The equipment used were Vishay EA 06 120LZ 120 strain gauges with ESAM Traveller bridge. The sampling rate was 1000 Hz. The test was to pick up maximum design weight, move it to maximum overhang and then drop it on the ground. During the test, signal from gauges and video capture was recorded. The data was then processed using Thema 3D software to obtain markers displacements and angular changes of both arm parts. Afterwards, the test was repeated for different weight. The analysis showed, that maximum stresses in examined construction parts did not exceed yield stress of material. As well as that, in-depth motion analysis of the arm was conducted. Further works are twofold. Firstly, there will be tests concerning arm under dynamic load occurring during normal maintenance During this test only strains in specific construction parts will be recorded. Secondly, numerical model of an arm will be developed and validated using data obtained during both tests. This will help visualize stress distribution in each arm's part.

The paper presents experimental test of mine flail structure designed for a prototype of the Shiba special military vehicle. The Shiba vehicle is equipped with such structure to neutralize mine and IED threats which are one of the most harmful weapons used during modern warfare and peacekeeping missions. The experimental test was performed by the Military Institute of Engineer Technology and the Military University of Technology. The test procedure was based on NATO standards. Detonation of 8 kg TNT AT mine under wheel of the prototype was taken into consideration as a case of possible load during mine clearance operation on the battlefield. The test procedure included deformation measurements of selected parts of mine flail structure. During the tests, strain gauges and camera markers were placed on the structure to allow recording of strains and observation of the specific construction point’s movements. The motion was recorded using three high-speed Phantom cameras. Vishay EA-06-120LZ-120 strain gauges with ESAM Traveler bridge with sampling rate 100 kHz were used for strain measurements. The test was performed on military proving ground. As a result, strain versus time plots were obtained. The results were processed using ESAM software. Strain gauges were placed paired in specific structure points. High-speed camera recordings were obtained to visualize the process of structure response. The sequences of selected frames are shown. Pictures of deformed structure are presented.
