school - Opis:
- This article was written to show the importance of formative assessment in the management of edu- cational institutions. School heads’ actions are based on the five strategies developed by Black P. and William D. (1998) that concern acquiring feedback, taking modified actions in the light of assessment results, carrying out self-assessment, increasing motivation and self-esteem and active involvement in one’s own process of learning. They determine the criteria of the school’s success by organizing discussions and giving feedback on whether and how the school is developing. This article was written on the basis of the results of quan- titative research conducted among the heads of primary and secondary schools located in Poland. Many scholars point out that it is essential to withdraw from the form of assessment presented with numbers. The research problem was to conduct an analysis of how heads of primary and high schools apply the- oretical knowledge and take practical actions in their use of formative assessment in their day-to-day work and in the relations that occur between the school head and teachers. The questionnaire of the survey was constructed particularly for the purposes of this study, considering the five components of formative assessment suggested by Black P. and William D. (1998). The school heads give feedback that allows teachers to make noticeable progress, create an environ- ment among teachers that enables them to use one another as an educational resource and assist tea- chers in becoming the authors of their own development, which translates into the quality of teaching students. The author emphasises the important role of formative assessment applied by school heads. This form of assessment helps educate teachers, who, as a social group, learn throughout the entire period of their active work.
