Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), moral psychology, moral self-concept, self-deception,
sacredness, moral absolutism, moral licensing - Opis:
- Authors describe the concept explaining sources of Intimate Partner Violence from the perspective of moral psychology in the Polish background. The latest research point out that men convicted of IPV may be affected by moral paradoxes that make them reluctant to change their aggressive behavior. The sacred values ( that can lead to violence) are relevant for this sample. Moreover, man are also confident of their moral views and values, and they see the moral world in black and white colors, what helps them to justify their aggressive behavior. In addition, they are related with the mechanisms of self-deception about their behavior. In this concept the perpetrator is not seen from the perspective of pathology, but described as a “normal man” involved in the moral paradoxes that lead him to violence. At the end of the article authors discuss the practical implications of the concept in Poland.
