Opis:
Liechtenstein is the fourth smallest country in Europe, which determines the low economic importance of this country on the international arena. Therefore, Liechtenstein is usually overlooked in the analysis of economic policies in various countries, including the energy sector. However, the analysis of such a small country brings a valuable complement to researches on potential and challenges with regard to the implementation of energy transformation policy especially taking into account the countries with poor capabilities. It should be emphasised that due to difficult geographical conditions and strong external influences, deepened analysis of the process of formulating energy policy in Liechtenstein should arouse the interest of those countries that suffer geographical disadvantages to strengthen their energy security.

Opis:
The Nordic Dimension of Energy Security aims to problematize the narrow conceptualization, contextualization and fossil fuel-based practices of energy security in the context of climate security. Energy has a key role in political, economic, social, cultural, environmental, ontological and climate security issues. The connection between energy and security contains various concepts, contexts and affects the civilizational development of human societies. The author demonstrates that the Nordic states pursue sustainable energy security policies and energy cooperation strategies with the Baltic states and European Union member states, while actively engaged in peace building activities. In this regard, the Nordic states have been evaluated as reference role models to remedy the narrow and traditional energy security approaches and to internalize renewable energy sources.

Opis:
The main aim of this article is to determine the level of security of supply of the Hungarian natural gas sector and to provide forecasts of the potential sources of oil imports by 2025. The research questions posed by the author relate to self-sufficiency of the domestic gas sector, a high level of dependence on supplies from the east, the lack of diversification of suppliers in the market, and the impact of the possibilities of re-gasification of underground natural gas storage facilities to improve energy security in Hungary. The research hypothesis of the paper was that the level of self-sufficiency of the gas sphere will remain at a constantly low level, that the security volume will decrease until new gas supply routes are established, and that the role of underground gas storage facilities as a result of highly probable loss of transport through the territory of Ukraine will be crucial. In order to solve the research problem and obtain answers to the questions raised, the following energy indices were used: self-sufficiency index, Herfindahl Hirschman index, Residual Supply Index, and the ratio of underground storage capacity of raw material to quarterly demand for fuel. The source of information and data used, due to the lack of many current studies on Hungary's energy security, are reports of national and European energy organizations, as well as reliable industry portals rich in current information. The conclusions of the analysis show that Hungary is a country highly dependent on imports from the East and that its security of supply will decrease significantly as a result of the political turmoil between Ukraine and Russia. Underground storage facilities will be responsible for maintaining a safe gas volume in the demand of the domestic economy in the near future. And the more distant future of the Hungarian gas industry will continue to be connected mainly with the eastern exporter. This will be facilitated by the Turkish Stream connection and possible supplies from Nord Stream II.

Opis:
Due to insufficient level of domestic natural gas production, the European Union countries are forced to import this key energy resource from the third countries. This involves political and economic as well as physical risks. In order to ensure energy security, it is necessary to mitigate the threats that in the case of natural gas supplies are primarily related to various types of dependencies. The dependency grows in the situation of low diversification of energy sources and resources suppliers. The aim of this paper is to analyze the impact of LNG imports on the European Union’s energy security, which would not be possible without showing the structure of the regionalnatural gas market. Implications of LNG trade will be shown in comparison with pipeline gas supplies, which are dominant on this market.

Baltic Ring
energy security of Baltic states
Opis:
The following paper treats about the initiatives of Baltic Ring and the Baltic Energy Market Interconnection Plan (BEMIP). Their main purpose is to integrate the electric grid in the states located at the Baltic coast and to eliminate barriers in transmission of electricity between them. This goal is notably difficult to achieve because of three different systems of grid functioning in the Baltic region - the Nordel system connecting Norway, Sweden and Finland, the IPS/UPS system common for all the post-soviet countries including Russia, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, and the European system used by most countries of European Union. While the Baltic Ring at the moment of its creation was meant to be a plane for cooperation around the coastline of Baltic Sea, its noble objectives did not survive in the XXI century. The new incarnation of Baltic Ring, called Baltic Energy Market Interconnection Plan, does not even declare any will to cooperate with Russia nor Belarus. Its far-reaching goal is to desynchronize the electric grid of Baltic states with the IPS/UPS system and to connect tchem with the continental Europe. This plan is strongly supported by European Union and criticized by Russia. The main purpose of the following paper is to define the role of the European Union’s energy policy in relations between Russia and the Baltic states. The European strategy for limiting Russia’s influence is clearly visible in the area of electricity transmission. The Baltic states remain the most sensitive EU countries affected by that kind of influence, so that the BEMIP plan is focused mainly on enhancing their energy security.

Energy security plays a key role in energy and economic policy. The importance of energy security has been highlighted by the energy and geopolitical crisis. The aim of this article is to present the crucial threats and challenges facing Polish National Power System, as well as to provide solutions to ensure Poland's energy security over the next 10 years. Article verify the hypothesis that security of electricity supply in Poland may be endangered in the coming years due to, among others, investment gap, coal power plants phase-out and undiversified energy mix. Therefore, it is a necessity to accelerate the investment processes in new generation capacity, especially in nuclear energy. Energy transition plans and energy policy need to be revised in light of the current energy and geopolitical crisis. Rapid growth of photovoltaics improves the energy security, mainly in the summer period, nevertheless, there is still insufficient development of investment in renewable energy sources, particularly in wind energy. In the Polish National Power System there are a lot of constraints such as investment gap, low capacity of transmission and distribution grids and high exposure to climate risk, thus it is necessary to take comprehensive investments to improve energy security in both the short and long term.

Opis:
The goal of the study is to show the potential for nuclear power development in Poland. SWOT and PEEST analyses were used, which in a multifaceted way showed the opportunities and threats of investment in this project. Based on the draft document Energy Policy of Poland until 2040 (PEP2040), the plans and actions aimed at the construction of the first Polish nuclear power plant are presented. The review of the operating costs of a nuclear power plant has made it possible to analyse the efficiency of nuclear investment by comparing the expected costs with the achievable results. It has been shown that obtaining energy from uranium will contribute to the country's energy security, competitiveness of the economy, and improvement in air quality in the long term. Diversification of energy sources will allow Poland to become more energy independent and adapt its energy sector to climate challenges.
