    Opis:
    The accession to the EU and the adopting of the Common Agricultural Policy led to the major changes in the income situation of the Polish agricultural sector. During the membership, the real increase of farmers’ incomes was recorded by over 96% in absolute terms and by over 112% if calculated per 1 worker, in comparison to the situation in the pre-accession period. however, the increase resulted mainly from the growth of subsidies, and to a lesser degree from other factors. The growing influence of subsidies on the income situation of farmers cannot hide the fact that generally the agriculture in Poland, compared to agricultures of the other member states, is characterised by low efficiency. The productive and economic development in the long term can be hardly expected without profound structural changes stimulating the growth of efficiency. Results of both factor analysis and regression analysis clearly indicate the need for such changes. The results show that generally the economic and financial situation of the Polish agricultural sector is determined by its efficiency, whereas the subsidies play a less important role.

    Opis:
    In the paper, an attempt to investigation the relation between farmers’ attitude towards risk and profitability of production’ factors has been undertaken. A resource-based theory of the firm underlines that the competitive advantage of the firm comes from owned resources. According to neoclassical economic theory, rational use of resources is associated with maximizing economic results, however under risk and uncertainty achieving such objective seems to be a difficult task (in terms of practical economic life). The main problem is risk aversion which comes from imperfect information. The risk aversion makes the decision – makers devote some inputs (part of resources) for risk reduction, what hypothetically leads to worse economic performance. Such point of view is coherent with a socalled state-contingent approach and theory of expected utility. The research revealed that in the case of crop and mix farms higher risk aversion is related with lower level of resources’ profitability. The opposite situation was observed in specialized livestock farms.

    Opis:
    This paper presents the issue of productivity and profitability of agricultural holdings. It particularly focuses on selected sustainable farms’ groups, that provide environmental benefits. The following groups of farms were analysed: ecological, agri-environmental, norfolk and sustainable. Farms specialised in cereal production were also the subject of analysis – the contrasting group to sustainable ones. The research was conducted using agricultural accountancy data – FADN 2012. The purpose of this paper is to present the economic efficiency of selected farms’ groups characterised by different influence on natural environment.

    Opis:
    The analysis of income capacity of farms and factors of production serves the improvement of the rationality of economics in agriculture, and thus contributes to the evolutionary change of its entity-related structure while maintaining the balance between the criteria of social justice and economical management. Making use of income-related function specified for holdings classified into six classes (by the level of ESU), it was determined that the main barrier for a farm to move from lower to higher ESU class is the high diversification of border income of basic production factors. The main reason for such differentiation of income level is the labour factor. Increase in labour efficiency contributes to the improvement of economic effectiveness of farms, but also results in the decrease of the number of jobs in agriculture, which confirms – to some extent – the gap between the individual interest of the owner against the social interest. An economic borderline should be set between a farm and an agricultural holding. Covering farms with state intervention is advisable in order to ensure the implementation of social objectives in a wider perspective.
