Opis:
The ball-pen probe is an innovative electric probe for direct measurements of the plasma potential in magnetized hot plasma. This probe is based on the Katsumata probe concept. The ball-pen probe can adjust the ratio I- saturat/I+ saturat of the electron and ion saturation currents to be equal to one and therefore the ball-pen probe characterization becomes symmetric. If this is achieved, the floating potential of the ball-pen probe is equal to the plasma potential in Maxwellian plasma. We show the application of a ball-pen probe in slightly magnetized low temperature plasma.

Opis:
Penetration of the liposome membranes doped with vanadium complex formed in the liquid-crystalline phase from egg yolk lecithin (EYL) by the TEMPO (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl) spin probes has been investigated. The penetration process was followed by 360 hours at 24◦C, using the electron spin resonance (EPR) method. The spectroscopic parameter of the partition (F) of this probe indicated that a maximum rigidity of the membrane was at 3% concentration of the vanadium complex. Computer simulations showed that the increase in the rigidity of the membrane corresponds to the closure of gaps in the surface layer of the membrane, and indicates the essential role of the membrane surface in transport processes.

The comparative analysis of the magnetic field distribution, the dynamics and structure of the plasma current sheath, and the neutron yield scaling in two largest plasma focus facilities, PF-3 and PF-1000 is done. The power-low dependence of the neutron yield on the current in the imploding plasma sheath has been demonstrated experimentally. For the first time the presence of the Bz magnetic field components is experimentally shown.

Remote controlled laboratories had a great push during the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, they were already out there but lacking in visibility. This external trigger pushed the academy to face a global challenge to start offering remote experiments more consistently and maturely. Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) has been offering several remote experiments since 2000 but with the need for an update due to technological aging. As such, the framework for remote experiments in education (FREE) was created based on new web technologies. In addition to the most diverse experiments that had already been developed, FREE includes two experiments that aimed at advanced-level physics students: the Langmuir probe and the electromagnetic (EM) cavity. Both allow users to configure the various parameters and to access the results in real time or check back later. All this access is done using a browser (on a PC or mobile phone) without the need to install additional software. The results of an experimental execution are stored in a database and are downloadable, allowing users to do various analyses and to determine the corresponding plasma density and temperature. In this paper, we will introduce how FREE was used in the implementation of both experiments and give an insight into their didactic approach, such as: (i) how to perform an experimental execution, (ii) the typical data set obtained with, and (iii) the corresponding analysis necessary for the user to retrieve information from it.

Opis:
The influence of the external axial magnetic field on pinching plasma flows generated by a magnetoplasma compressor (MPC) has been studied using magnetic and electric probes. In the presence of an external magnetic field, temperature measurements show two groups of electrons with different temperatures near the plasma stream core. The external magnetic field leads to a noticeable increase in the electric current in the plasma stream, electron temperature, and the formation of the current-sheet-like structure observed in the MPC for the first time.

A method for removal of hydrogenated carbon deposits from the walls of fusion reactors with carbon divertors is presented. The method is based on interaction of neutral oxygen atoms with deposits at elevated temperatures typically found in such fusion reactors. The source of neutral oxygen atoms is oxygen plasma created with electrodeless high frequency discharges. The density of oxygen atoms in such plasma may approach 1022 m-3 making such discharges suitable for removal of deposits in huge systems like tokamaks.

Opis:
The interaction of an intense laser pulse with a solid target produces large number of fast free electrons. This emission gives rise to two distinct sources of the electromagnetic pulse (EMP): the pulsed return current through the holder of the target and the out flow of electrons into the vacuum. A relation between the characteristics of laser-produced plasma, the target return current and the EMP emission are presented in the case of a massive Au target irradiated with the intensity of up to 3 × 1016 W/cm2. The emission of the EMP was recorded using a 12 cm diameter Moebius loop antennas, and the target return current was measured using a new type of inductive target probe (T-probe). The simultaneous use of the inductive target probe and the Moebius loop antenna represents a new useful way of diagnosing the laser–matter interaction, which was employed to distinguish between laser-generated ion sources driven by low and high contrast laser pulses.

Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to prove that near infrared radiation (NIR) modifies hydrogen bonds localized in the interface of reversed micelles. The degree of modification of the hydrogen bonds was monitored by TEMPO-palmitate spin probe introduced into the structure of reverse micelles formed by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) (TCAB/phosphate buffer/isooctane/hexanol and TCAB/NaCl/isooctane/hexanol (W = 15)). Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra were performed on the argonated samples. The isotropic tumbling correlation time (τc) and the hyperfine coupling constant A+ = h0 – h+1 (h+1, and h0 correspond to the low-, and centre-field lines, respectively) were determined from the EPR spectra as a quantitative measure for monitoring the action of NIR radiation. A+ values depend on the composition of the water pool (1.640 mT for phosphate buffer and 1.630 mT for NaCl). NIR irradiation led to decrease in A+. This parameter reached the same value for both solutions (1.625 ± 0.003 and 1.626 ± 0.003 mT) after exposition to NIR. The tumbling correlation time after exposure to NIR decreased for TCAB/phosphate buffer/ isooctane/hexanol reversed micelles from 2.10 × 10–10 s to 1.44 × 10–10 s but did not change for TCAB/NaCl/isooctane/ hexanol). The results obtained confirm the possibility of modification of the hydrogen bonds by NIR radiation.
