Opis:
An electron-beam generated plasma (EBGP) ion source for nuclear spectroscopy purposes at YASNAPP (YAdernaya Spektroskopya NA Putchkah Protonov - nuclear spectroscopy using proton beams) isotope separation on-line facility is presented. Working conditions both in on- and off-line mode are presented and discussed. Formation of a potential trap inside a discharge chamber is an advantage of the presented construction, enabling relatively high ionization efficiencies (2-5%) even for hard-to-ionize elements like Be, Ti, V, Zr, Nb, Mo, Tc, Ru, Rd, Hf, Ta, W, Re, Os, Ir, Pt. The paper presents estimation of critical values of working parameters that enable formation of the ion trap leading in consequence to high efficiency of ionization. The optimal temperature of the discharge chamber and cathode walls is found to be in the range 2600-2800 K. Calculations of the output rates of ions produced in the on-line mode are also presented as well as the constraints on the half-life time of obtained nuclides imposed by construction details like the target material and its thickness.

Opis:
The 57Fe Mössbauer spectra for the iron-based solid solutions Fe0.90Cr0.10 and Fe0.88Cr0.12 were measured at different temperatures ranging from 300 K to 900 K. Analysis of the obtained spectra shows that the distribution of impurity atoms in the two first coordination shells of 57Fe nuclei is not random and it cannot be described by the binomial distribution. Quantitatively, the effects were described in terms of the atomic short-range order (SRO) parameters and the pair-wise interaction energy with the help of a quasi-chemical type formulation introduced by Cohen and Fine. The obtained results reveal strong clustering-type correlations in the studied samples (a predominance of Fe-Fe and Cr-Cr bonds). Moreover, the changes in SRO values observed during thermal processing suggest that the distribution of Cr atoms in an α-iron matrix is strongly temperature dependent.

Opis:
A 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy study is presented. The main goal of the research was to investigate the structural information of the glass-like the coordination numbers and redox ratio of the iron. Most of the iron, about 80%, is present in the glass as Fe3+, which is composed of tetrahedral (57%) and octahedral (23%) coordinated iron. The rest of the iron, about 20%, is in the oxidation state Fe2+. This iron could be mostly present as VIFe2+, but five-fold coordinated iron is also possible. Finally, the structural model of the synthesized 60P2O5-40Fe2O3 glass was proposed.

Opis:
Different methods and techniques for material characterization are often used as a standard procedure for the determination of material properties. Nuclear techniques provide new and more detailed information about the investigated materials. The main goal of the carried out experiments was to improve surface properties including wear, corrosion and high temperature oxidation resistance. Modification processes were carried out using high intensity pulsed plasma beams - HIPPB (106-108 W.cm-2) generated in a rod plasma injector (RPI). In most solid materials such treatment leads to a fast transient melting of the surface layer of the substrate followed by rapid crystallization. Heating and cooling processes are of non-equilibrium type. Initial and modified materials were characterized using different investigation methods including nuclear techniques. Results of the used nuclear techniques such as nuclear reaction analysis (NRA), Rutherford backscattered spectroscopy (RBS) and conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy (CEMS) are presented in the paper.

Opis:
60P2O5-40Fe2O3 glass was synthesized and 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy study was presented. The main goal of the research was to investigate structural changes of local environment of iron ions during gradual crystallization of the glass. It was observed that some changes were evidenced at temperature of heat treatment higher than 400°C, above which content of tetrahedrally coordinated Fe3+ was increased in cost of octahedral sites. This led to formation of areas of nucleation of α-FePO4. Crystallization of α-Fe3(P2O7)2 and Fe2P2O7 was also observed.
