Opis:
Radon (222Rn) activity concentration in outdoor air was measured by exposing track etch detectors at 60 points. Values were found in the range of 3.7–41.0 Bqźm–3, with a geometric mean (GM) of 11.8 Bqźm–3 and geometric standard deviation (GSD) of 2.2. An outdoor radon map of Slovenia was drawn, showing the majority of elevated values to be in the south-west part of the country that is covered by carbonates.

Opis:
Radon (222Rn) activity concentration in outdoor air was measured, using AlphaGuard radon monitors, at 25 points in the Mt. Etna area, at different distances and in different directions from the summit. Values of up to 93 Bqźm–3 were found at three points close to the summit, at altitudes of about 3000 m above the sea level, and in the range of 3.0–19.6 Bqźm–3 elsewhere. An average radon concentration of 7.9 Bqźm–3 was obtained in the northern region, 4.8 Bqźm–3 in the eastern (oriented towards the sea), 9.6 Bqźm–3 in the western (the furthest inland), and 6.5 Bqźm–3 in the southern.

nationwide survey
Opis:
A nationwide survey was conducted in 2014 to investigate environmental outdoor radon level in 33 provincial cities across China. The radon detector used was a passive-type solid-state nuclear track detector, CR-39. Measurements were conducted under the same condition following the quality control programme. Outdoor radon concentrations in China ranged from 3 to 30.0 Bq·m−3. The annual arithmetic and geometric mean radon concentration were 14 and 13.2 Bq·m−3, respectively. The radon concentrations in the locations near or along coastline were lower than the average value, while those located in the inland area were higher. As a whole, the result showed no big difference from the data measured during the period 1983–1998. It demonstrated that the outdoor radon concentration level in China has not been changing remarkably for 20 years.

Opis:
The objective of the study was to investigate temporal variability of outdoor radon (222Rn) concentration registered in the center of Łódź (urban station), at Ciosny (rural station) and Kraków (suburban station) in relation to meteorological parameters (i.e. air temperature, temperature vertical gradient, wind speed, soil heat flux, volumetric water content in soil) with special consideration of urban-rural differences. Continuous measurements of 222Rn concentration (at 60 min intervals) were performed at a height of 2 m above the ground using AlphaGUARDŽ PQ2000PRO (ionization chamber) from January 2008 to May 2009. 222Rn levels were characterized by a diurnal cycle with an early morning maximum and a minimum in the afternoon. The well-marked 24 h pattern of radon concentration occurred in summer at anticyclonic weather with cloudless sky, light wind and large diurnal temperature ranges. The urban measurement site was characterized by the lowest atmospheric 222Rn concentration and an urban-rural differences of radon levels increased from winter to summer and during the nighttime periods. The maximum contrasts of 222Rn levels between Łódź and Ciosny, reaching – 30 Bqźm–3, were registered in June and July during the urban heat island (UHI) phenomenon (a positive thermal anomaly of a city if compared to rural area) and strong thermal inversion near the ground in the rural area.
