Opis:
Earth’s atmosphere is monitored by a multitude of sensors. It is the troposphere that is of crucial importance for human activity, as it is there that the weather phenomena take place. Weather observations are performed by surface sensors monitoring, inter alia, humidity, temperature and winds. In order to observe the developments taking place in the atmosphere, especially in the clouds, weather radars are commonly used. They monitor severe weather that is associated with storm clouds, cumulonimbuses, which create precipitation visible on radar screens. Therefore, radar images can be utilized to track storm clouds in a data fusion system. In this paper an algorithm is developed for the extraction of blobs (interesting areas in radar imagery) used within data fusion systems to track storm cells. The algorithm has been tested with the use of real data sourced from a weather radar network. 100% of convection cells were detected, with 90% of them being actual thunderstorms.

Opis:
This paper is concerned with the performance analysis of a slotted downlink channel in a wireless CDMA communication system with integrated packet voice and data transmission. The system model consists of mobile terminals (MT) and a single base station (BS). It is assumed that the voice (data) packet error rate (PER) does not exceed lO(-2) (10(-5)). With this requirement the number of simultaneous transmissions over the downlink channel is limited. Therefore, the objective of the call admission control is to restrict the maximum number of CDMA codes available to voice and E data traffic. Packets of accepted voice calls are transmitted immediately while accepted data packets are initially buffered at the BS. This station distinguishes between silence and talk-spurt periods of voice sources, so that data packets can use their own codes for transmission during silent time slots. Data packets are buffered in queues created separately for each destination. Discrete-time Markov processes are used to model the system operation. Statistical dependence between queues is the main difficulty which arises during the analysis. This dependence leads to serious computational complexity. The aim of this paper is to present an approximate analytical method based on the restricted occupancy urn model which enables to evaluate system performance despite the dependence. Numerical calculations compared with simulation results show excellent agreement for the average system throughput and the blocking probability of data packets for higher system loads. On the other hand, when the average data packet delay is considered, analytical results underestimate simulation and therefore only approximate system performance evaluation is possible.

Opis:
The paper contains a review and analysis of evolutionary paths of seven most important, from network development strategy point of view, wireless communication systems, especially the WLAN operating according to the IEEE 802.11 standard. With respect to WLAN, trends related to evolution toward mobile network and self organizing network as well as toward integration of WLAN and GSM using GPRS are presented. Concerning WLAN architecture development, evolution paths toward distributed controlled network as well as centrally coordinated and controlled network are described. Moreover, analysis includes cellular mobile radio systems, wireless personal networks, wide area wireless packet data systems, satellite-based mobile systems, paging/messaging systems and cordless telephones. With respect to these systems, general evolution process and trends associated with this process are described.
