Opis:: This article describes a simulation model of a national network of television broadcasting stations. The performance of a station depends on its sitting and its antenna, on its radiated power and frequency, and on surrounding terrain and electromagnetic environment. All these factors can be analysed using the simulation model. Simulation can help in the maintenance of the existing television stations and in the planning of new stations by making “what-if” considerations fast, simple and effective. The simulation model has been developed as an engineering aid in planning the low-power rebroadcasting stations.

Opis:: A planar monopole antenna is an aerial, which the radiating element is perpendicular to the ground plane. It has five equal curvy sides and works at Ultra High Frequency (UHF) band of terrestrial broadcast 478–806 MHz. The curvy sides are made of five equal trimmed ellipses and separated 72o each ellipse to another, form pentagonal shape. Optimizations are obviously necessary to gain the antenna performance at the desired frequency range. The dimensions to optimize this antenna performance are the length of the sides, the offset of curvature, the antenna height from the ground plane, and the ground plane size. Optimization process is done by simulating the proposed antenna with calculated designs using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Studio Suite 2015 software. The optimized antenna design then fabricated with a 75 W coaxial line fed, measured, and results: Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) range of 1.05–1.28, antenna gain at 600 MHz is 15.33 dBi, elliptical polarized, and omnidirectional. With these features, this antenna should satisfy the requirements of UHF television broadcasting.

Opis:: Opisano początki telewizji w Polsce. Omówiono prowadzone pierwsze prace badawcze, prezentowane na wystawie w Związku Nauczycielstwa Polskiego, a także nadawanie pierwszych programów z eksperymentalnego studia w Instytucie Łączności przy ul. Ratuszowej. Scharakteryzowano następne kierunki badań oraz opracowywane urządzenia. Podkreślono zaangażowanie pracowników przy wykonywaniu tych zadań.
The beginnings of television in Poland are discussed. The first research works presented during the exhibition At the Union of Polish Teachers building and the first TV transmissions from experimental studio at NIT located at Ratuszowa Street in Warsaw are described. Directions of the next research as well as early equipment are characterized. The enthusiasm and involvement of employees crucial for success are stressed.

Opis:: Because of the decision, taken during the ITU WRC-07, to allocate the upper part of the so-called digital dividend spectrum for mobile services on a co-primary basis with TV broadcast services, the involved stakeholders have a great interest in avoiding any interference caused by signals transmitted in adjacent bands. In this context the paper presents some experimental results of a study addressed to assess the effects produced by an interferential LTE signal transmitted from a user terminal when it is in proximity of a television antenna that receives DVB-T signals. The study has been conducted in the context of collaboration between Fondazione Ugo Bordoni and ISCTI, the scientic and technical body of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, using high professional laboratory equipments and considering different experimental simulation test setups. Several simulation scenarios have been analyzed and results in terms of protection ratio and protection distance have been carried out.

Opis:: This paper proposes idea of videotoms usage in quality tests of video signals. This concept simplifies parametric model creation for television services such as IPTV (Internet Protocol Television), VoD (Video on Demand) and others. Videotom is simple, well-defined video sequence in the context of video quality tests. Presented idea was used in both objective and subjective tests of influence selected network parameters: jitter of delay, packet loss and packet corrupt on the video quality measured using Mean Square Error (MSE) and Mean Opinion Score (MOS) metrics. Results showed that proposed method is useful especially for subjective tests and it can reduce costs and time for them.

The paper presents history of technology developments in radio broadcasting: from radio signals emission problems, through introduction of stereo sound to digital radio broadcasting and relationships with mobile communications systems. Next chapter presents history of television development, discussing mechanical-scan television, mechamical-electronic technology, telecine equipment, as well as current issues including analogue television broadcasting, colour television, high definition television, satellite and cable networks, digital terrestrial systems and interactive television.

Opis:: This paper presents comparison of videotoms and standard television sequences in terms of image distortions and perceived subjective quality affected by H.264/AVC compression with changed bit rate. Results from initial tests, performed as laboratory exercise can be a reference to show scale of diversity in both level of degradation and Mean Opinion Score (MOS) evaluation. Results and comments included in this paper give overview on the codec in uence on videotoms and can suggest approach for further tests and experiments.

Opis:: Przeprowadzono analizę porównawczą standardów kodowania MPEG-2 i H.264/AVC z punktu widzenia liczby programów telewizyjnych w multipleksie. Na podstawie dostępnych dokumentów normalizacyjnych i wyników badań przedstawiono właściwości standardu MPEG-2, MPEG-4 oraz H.264/AVC, a także zakresy ich stosowania i dostępność sprzętu. Stwierdzono, że standard H.264/AVC, umożliwiający przesłanie w multipleksie dwukrotnie większej liczby programów niż standard MPEG-2, jest standardem przyszłościowym i ma coraz szersze zastosowanie. Celowe jest więc wprowadzenie jego próbnych emisji w Polsce.
Comparative analysis of coding standards MPEG-2 and H.264/AVC in terms of multiplexed programs number was made. On the base of standards deliverable and tests results, the performance of standards MPEG-2 and H.264/AVC was presented as well as their application scope and equipment accessibility. It was find that standard H.264/AVC, which gives the possibility of transmission in multiplexer two times more programs number than standard MPEG-2 can, is the future standard and has more and more wide application. Therefore, it is purposeful to start experimental emission of it in Poland.
