    Opis:
    The paper presents the alternative migration profiles to next generation carrier network architecture. It describes the paths of development of fixed public network in- frastructure for five selected service providers. The carriers are selected as being in advanced stage of migration towards NGN. Moreover, examples of varying strategies ranging from full PSTN replacement and NGN overlay to constructing an NGN network from the ground up as well as examples of various migration strategies, especially based on IMS and softswitch solutions are presented.

    Zaprezentowano kierunki rozwoju publicznych sieci stałych w czterech krajach, wyróżniających się stopniem zaawansowania działań związanych z transformacją sieci klasycznych (PSTN) w sieci NGN. Przedstawiono strategie informatyzacji sieci oparte na systemie IMS oraz na urządzeniach typu softswitch. Podano przykłady różnych rodzajów modernizacji sieci telekomunikacyjnych, od zastępowania istniejącej infrastruktury nowymi rozwiązaniami technicznymi do budowania nakładkowych sieci NGN.
    In this paper, the directions of development of PSTN network in four countries are presented. The countries selected have the most advanced transformation process of their existing network to IP-based architecture. The possibilities of adoption of softswitch as well as IP multimedia system - based architecture solutions to transfer subscribers to IP-based session are discussed. Examples of alternative NGN migration paths ranging from PSTN replacement to NGN overlay are also presented.

    Opis:
    Currently it is assumed that requirements of the information society for delivering multimedia services will be satisfied by the Next Generation Network (NGN) architecture, which includes elements of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) solution. In order to guarantee Quality of Service (QoS), NGN has to be appropriately designed and dimensioned. Therefore, proper traffic models should be proposed and applied. This requires determination of queuing models adequate to message inter-arrival and interdeparture time distributions in the network. In the paper the above mentioned distributions in different points of a single domain of NGN are investigated, using a simulation model developed according to the latest standards and research. Relations between network parameters and obtained message inter-arrival as well as interdeparture time distributions are indicated. Moreover, possibility of approximating the above mentioned distributions using phase-type distributions is investigated, which can be helpful in identifying proper queuing models and constructing an analytical model suitable for NGN.
