Opis:
We discussed the notion of “students’ subjectivities” from the current psychological and pedagogical point of view. The author investigates the notion in its historical development. The paper reviews the developing students’ subjectivities, focusing on students’ abilities and personal characteristics, such as students’ setting goals, achievement values, recognizing actual or potential perspectives. The article aims to study the problem of developing students’ subjectivities and to carry out theoretical analysis of students’ subjectivities showing the historical development of this category and reflecting the stages of students’ professional and pedagogical development. The target group of students are students related to pedagogical teaching practice. Relations between students’ subjectivities and the efficiency of their  future professional and pedagogical performance are discussed, as well as how to develop students’ subjectivities creating special pedagogical conditions during the academic process in the university. We also focus on stages of students’ professional and pedagogical development, such as the stage of students’ professional training, professional adaptation stage and directly professionalization. In this regard, we present the core conceptual bases of students’ subjectivities development to professional and pedagogical performance. The conceptual bases highlight the idea of students’ gradual change from one stage of students’ professional and pedagogical development to the following ones; the idea of the organization of reflective teaching activities of students’ interaction in the development of students’ subjectivities; and the idea of interpreting the mechanisms of the students’ subjectivities development.

This paper considers competences of the foreign language teacher in the Republic of Cro-atia. Despite the clear classifi cation of foreign language teacher competences on a primary level, which was developed within the TEMPUS project, no reliable instrument has yet been constructed to account for those competences. The purpose of my research was to investigate the metric characteristics of an instrument which could be useful for determining foreign language teacher competences in the Republic of Croatia. A questionnaire was applied to 126 study participants (bachelor and master English language and literature students). The fi nal version of the questionnaire consisted of eighteen items and four factors, which were extrac-ted using exploratory factor analysis. The results have shown that the developed instrument is not fully applicable to the Croatian foreign language learning context. Still, some of its aspects may be used in future instrument construction.

Ensuring that gifted individuals receive differentiated and enhanced education, which is suitable for their areas of skills and developmental characteristics, will contribute to revealing their skills and developing their multiple developmental areas to bring them to upper levels. The purpose of this study is to determine the needs of gifted individuals by  developing a curriculum which considers their educational needs. In the scope of this study, interviews were made with ten parents using the Snowball Sapling Method. The questionnaires used in the interviews were prepared in a semi-structured manner in light of variables determined from the literature on the subject . Interviews were made by  two researchers. The two researchers assessed data obtained separately; and thus, codes of study were obtained. Themes were formed according to common components of the codes. Three main themes were formed on needs analysed in light of data obtained from the  literature on the topic. These themes were  “Characteristics of Gifted Individuals”; “School and Expectations from It”; and “Being Parents of Gifted Individuals”. These themes were separated into sub-themes.The parents explained “different behaviour patterns of their gifted children”, “characteristic of their children” and “situations their gifted children like/do not like” in the “Characteristics of Gifted Individuals” theme. The  “School and Expectations from It” theme consisted of two sub-themes, which were  “satisfaction of parents with  school”, and “expectations of parents from school”. In the “Being Parents of Gifted Individuals” theme, the parents explained, “their concerns ”, “their regrets”, “the difficulties they have with their children”, and “their complaints”. Results of this study led to initialising a curriculum development study for gifted children which is based on their characteristics and needs.

Aim. The present research aims to explore the English language learning motivation of students at the Sapientia University, Faculty of Economics, Socio-Human Sciences and Engineering, Miercurea-Ciuc (Csíkszereda). Method. 103 students took part in the exploratory research where an online questionnaire containing 50 statements was used to find out students’ motivations to learn English, focusing on seven different motivational factors (instrumentality, desire to become a global citizen, ideal foreign language self, desire for self-satisfaction, attitudes towards learning English, cultural integration and ought-to foreign language self). Results and conclusion. Results show that instrumental motivation has a strong effect on the surveyed students as they are highly motivated by the idea of getting a well-paying job with the help of their English language knowledge. Moreover, we also found out that participant students do not want to integrate within a native English-speaking community; they do not want to speak the language as native speakers, they rather aim to become global citizens with English. Cognitive value. The results of this exploratory research might offer valuable insight into students’ language learning motivation. Therefore, the study might be helpful for university teachers to have detailed information and a clearer picture of their students’ language learning motivations.

Aim. The aim of this study is to present the relationship between educational interest and academic achievement of the secondary school students in East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya, India. The standardised tool used for the study is the Educational Interest Record by Kulshrestha (2016). In order to assess the academic achievement, the final year examination results of students were collected. Methods. The sample of the study comprised of 300 secondary school students drawn from fifteen secondary schools under Meghalaya Board of School Education. Stratified random sampling was used with equal representation to gender and locale. Analysis was done by using Pearson ‘r’ (Product Moment Correlation) and t-test. Results. The findings of the study revealed a negative relationship between educational and academic achievement. There is a significant difference in the educational interest in terms of gender, but no significant difference was found between locales of the secondary school students. Conclusions. The assessment of the educational interest may be considered one of the crucial methods used in the education system, as teaching of subjects alone cannot help the students in the educational development. On the other hand, academic achievement is one of the areas in which relatively accurate information can be obtained with relation to individual’s ability or capacity. The study has provided information which indicate that students do not have a clear understanding about their own interests and abilities. Hence, guidance and counselling need to be integrated into the secondary school curriculum in the state in order to help the students better understand their interests and abilities. Educational guidance and counselling will also enable the students to plan both their higher education and career in thefuture.

Aim. The subject of our interest is to research the forms of prejudice about Christians among university students. Part of the research focuses on the question of the forms of prejudices of the research group in relation to religious classmates – peers and part of on significant influence of media on the negative perception of Christianity in the society. The reflection of the findings is a consideration of the decline in social cohesion due to (1) the existence of prejudices in the university environment in Slovakia, and (2) the often negative media presentation of Christian religion in the Slovak media. Concept. The starting point of the issue is the research into the forms of prejudice and the potential for social exclusion of young people due to the existence of prejudice in the university environment. The need for this kind of research and reasoning arises from growing fears and the strengthening of phobias that accumulate within the groups we observe. Results and conclusion. The reflection of the findings is a consideration of the decline in social cohesion due to (1) the existence of prejudices in the university environment in Slovakia, and (2) the often negative media presentation of Christian religion in the Slovak media. Cognitive value. Qualitative statements confirm the decline in social cohesion among peers due to religious diversity. We consider the presence of religious prejudices as an urgent call for such forms of education that would effectively contribute to the acceptance of cultural and religious diversity in society and to the promotion of social cohesion in the university environment.

Aim. The aim of the study is to find out students’ perspectives on the necessity, readiness and disturbing factors of implementing musical activities in preschool. The theoretical part of the paper describes the particularity of preschool teachers’ work, the children’s interest in musical activities, and the benefits of implementing musical activities in preschool.  Method. The empirical study involved 168 students (N=168), of which 132 students (N=132) are already working as preschool teachers in parallel with their study at the university. The study identified three questions: why do preschool teachers use musical activities? What factors prevent a preschool teacher from using musical activities? Is there a relationship between the competence of a preschool teacher in the field of music and the implementation musical activities in preschool? In order to answer the study questions, a questionnaire consisting of twelve statements was created, which had to be assessed on a four-point Likert scale. Results and conclusion. As a result of the analyses of the data obtained in the study, it was ascertained that preschool teachers use musical activities to make children happy and improve their abilities. The use of musical activities is connected with preschool teacher’s willingness to do that. One of the key factors that hinder the implementation of musical activities is an insufficient material base in the preschool. The study also found that there is a correlation between the competence of a preschool teacher in the field of music and the implementation of musical activities.

The article presents results of two studies on the issue of individual characteristics as factors related to the choice of the type of university or faculty. The study 1 is focused on the level of materialism as well as the definition of a life success formulated by private and state university students. The study 2 analyses the propensity to help other people and the level of empathy among pedagogics and business students. Studies were conducted with DSM (Górnik-Durose, 2002) scale measuring materialism and designed life- success questionnaire (study 1) or IRI scale developed by Davis (1980) measuring the level of empathy (study 2). The sample amounted to 92 respondents in both studies. Results show that private university students are characterized by a higher level of materialism than public university students. Students from private university, in comparison with state university students, also score higher success in life of a person with higher income. According to the results of study 2, students of pedagogics declare higher willingness to help than business students and are characterized as experiencing more positive feelings for other people who are in a difficult situation

Aim. This manuscript aims to present the theoretical and contextual characteristics of the developed training program focused on identifying the components of students’ self-regulated learning activities with the use of metacognitive monitoring as well as improving the effectiveness of the students’ learning activities at the individual-personal, motivational-volitional, cognitive and metacognitive levels. To do this, we sought to analyze these phenomena in scientific literature and develop a training program aimed to develop students’ reflexivity, internal learning motivation, and metacognitive skills; to inform students about the features of metacognitive monitoring and metacognitive control of self-regulated learning activities, their awareness of the characteristics of their own processes of understanding, evaluating and reproducing information; to form comprehension and task analysis skills, as well as understanding of the specifics of performed tasks. Methods. A system of general scientific methods was used: analysis and synthesis of the main characteristics of the concepts of self-regulated learning and metacognitive monitoring as a complex multidimensional formation, comprehension of the psychological foundations of self-regulated learning, systematization and generalization of scientific provisions of metacognitive monitoring in student self-regulated learning. This study focused on the design and development of the training program for increasing the efficiency of metacognitive monitoring in student self-regulated learning. Results. The presented manuscript has analyzed the theoretical aspects of the concepts of metacognitive monitoring and self-regulated learning of HEI students. The theoretical essence of the methodological and contextual characteristics of the above mentioned phenomena has been studied. The role and importance of metacognitive monitoring and its components in the learning efficiency and academic self-regulation of HEI students have been described. It has been determined that metacognitive monitoring as a metacognitive characteristic of personality determines not only the organization of mental and behavioral processes, but also relates to the academic success of the subject of learning activity, namely the student. The training program for increasing the efficiency of metacognitive monitoring in student self-regulated learning has been developed and presented. Conclusions. The program was designed to help students consciously approach the independent planning and setting of learning goals, control intellectual and metacognitive activities, and use cognitive and metacognitive strategies in learning, monitoring, controlling and correcting their learning activities. Since these processes provide students with cognitive understanding of their own cognitive processes, the use of this type of training program will help students optimize their learning outcomes through metacognitive monitoring in the process of self-regulated learning activities.

Aim. The aim of the research is to provide a scientific justification for the integrated development of general and subject-specific competences of primary school pupils. Methods. The exploratory qualitative case study was conducted in a private school in Lithuania. The integrated activities covered the content of Lithuanian language and science education, as well as general competences such as communication and digital competences. The activity was implemented in grade 4 with 12 pupils (8 boys and 4 girls). A semi-structured interview with the class teacher was also conducted. Results and conclusion. The data from the empirical study were analysed according to the following thematic clusters: interest in the activity, group work, searching for information in the encyclopaedia and in electronic sources, working with a robot when integrating the digital skills and the content of science education, descriptions of animals as a summarising and consolidating activity. The study found that if the educational process is well thought out, if the pupils are interested, they can work independently and support each other in explaining the content, while the teacher becomes an observer, a facilitator, and can concentrate on the pupils’ individual activities during this process. Well-designed tasks with the robot develop not only digital literacy skills, but also the reinforcement of subject content related to the use of concepts. Originality. The case study provides valuable insights into the implementation of an educational process that integrates general and subject-specific competences, and the detailed description of the activities shows which tasks support students’ independent learning.

Thesis. Today’s students are very much influenced by globalisation and advances in technology. This has brought about some changes in the attitudes and perceptions of the new generation of students which are worthy of attention. The present study aimed to shed light on one such shift of focus and explored Iranian literature students' preferences for either reading or watching the movie adaptations of literary works. The second aim of the study was to examine the reasons for their preferences and to analyse them to see where they originated from. Concept. To this end, a mixed methods design was used in which the quantitative data was gathered through a questionnaire from the University of Mazandaran English literature students (N=141). In the questionnaire, their tendencies towards either watching movies or reading literary books was explored. Based on convenient sampling, for the qualitative data, a semi-structured interview was conducted with 5 students from each category to find the reasons behind their preferences. The data from the interviews were transcribed and then content analysed. Results and conclusion. The results showed there existed a higher tendency towards movie watching (58%) among these students. Content analysis of the students’ responses to interview questions also revealed some factors affecting their inclination towards movie watching. The main reason for such a tendency was mentioned to be time constraints. Oher reasons were disclosed which will be reported in the article. The implications of the study will also be discussed fully under conclusion.
