    Every epoch adopts a different attitude towards the old age, the process of fading away and old people, which manifests itself in distinct attitudes and ideas about this specific period of life. The “visual reality” of the 21st century worships beauty and youth. This entails increased social expectations about appearance. The body, especially the old man’s body, should be attractive. Nowadays there is a noticeable increase in the total number of elderly. They become therefore an attentively observed social class. In the mass media, the “appealing” old men’s images are becoming more and more popular and common, so reflections on this subject constitute an interesting and important area of investigation. This article is an attempt to reconstruct “post-modern” strategies of creating and showing the old age through images.

    Współczesny polski uniwersytet jest płaszczyzną zróżnicowanych napięć, zarówno tych we-wnętrznych, jak i zewnętrznych. Usytuowany pomiędzy koniecznością podtrzymywania wie-loletniej już tradycji oraz coraz powszechniejszym oczekiwaniem zmian, poszukuje własnej toż-samości w niezwykle złożonej rzeczywistości XXI w. Podjęty przez autorkę artykułu temat jest zatem próbą uchwycenia zjawisk, jakie wpływają na kształt współczesnego uniwersytetu w Pol-sce. Analizowane przez nią problemy dotyczą relacji, jakie konstytuują się na osi uniwersytet - student – rynek pracy, a ich źródłem jest ugruntowana w dyskursie humanistycznym refleksja nad kondycją współczesnego uniwersytetu, funkcjonujące powszechnie opinie i przekonania, oraz indywidualne doświadczenia autorki, stanowiące swoistą szansę zderzenia teoretycznych rozważań z rzeczywistością w jakiej funkcjonuje student uniwersytetu w XXI w.
    The modern Polish university is full of tensions, both internal and external. Trying to find an equilibrium between tradition and social expectations of change, it at the same time strives to preserve its own identity. This paper is an attempt to determine the phenomena that shape modern Polish universities. It asks about the correlation between the university, students and the job market. These reflections draw on social and academic opinions about the condition of Polish universities and the author’s own experiences. This paper also refers to some theoretical academic assumptions related to the student’s job market reality.

    In every age we can find a different attitude of man towards the end of life, instanced in varied stances and imaginations regarding death. In postmodernism, which makes a broader context for this work, it is impossible to present one unified image of death, because the attitude of contemporary men towards death and the visual forms of it are greatly varied. The subject of my analysis is a presentation of death shown in three occurrences the crisis, the pornography and the renaissance of death which combine to form the postmodern thanatic triad.

    in every given period one can observe different attitudes towards old age, death and the elderly, which are shown through varied stances and ideas about this specific period of human life. The reality of the xxicentury often regarded as “vision-centric” is dominated by the cult of beauty and youth which creates increasingly demanding requirements, rela-ted mainly to the attractiveness of appearance, of the body – especially the one belonging to the elderly. The increase in the number of senior citizens compared to the rest of the society that can be witnessed nowadays leads to the elderly being amore carefully examined social group. Mediated by the media discourse the images of the elderly are becoming more common and therefore the author’s attempt at reconstructing the postmodern strategy of the rendering of late adulthood seems to be an interesting and important topic to consider.

    W każdej epoce możemy dostrzec odmienny stosunek człowieka wobec kresu życia, wyrazem którego są zróżnicowane postawy i wyobrażenia na temat śmierci. W ponowoczesności, która stanowi kontekst zawartych w niniejszym artykule rozważań, nie sposób przedstawić jednego obrazu śmierci, ponieważ stosunek współczesnych ludzi do tematów związanych z przemijaniem, a także ich forma wizualna, jawi się w wielu niezwykle zróżnicowanych formach. Przedmiotem mojej analizy jest zatem próba przybliżenia rezerwuaru mortualnych przedstawień, które ujawniają się w trzech odsłonach – poprzez: kryzys, pornografię i renesans śmierci, w optyce których konstytuuje się tanatyczny tryptyk ponowoczesności.
    In every epoch we can notice different attitude towards end of life, which reflects in varied attitude towards death and its representations. The background for my consideration is postmodernity. In this period there is no one representation of death, because contemporary people’s attitude towards topics associated with passing and their images are diversified. In the article I will try to analyse the representations of death shown trough three phenomena - crisis, pornography and renaissance of death, in which light the Thanatotic post-modern triptych can be constructed.
