    Czym jest Majdan po trzech latach od pamiętnego lutego 2014? Czy w Ukrainie jest przestrzeń dla obywatelskich działań zbiorowych? Jak można budować społeczeństwo cywilne, gdy kraj jest w stanie wojny, nazwanej ATO czyli „operacja antyterrorystyczna”? Punktem odniesienie analizy Majdanu jest ruch społeczny Solidarność opisany w kategoriach zaproponowanych przez Alain Touraine i jego zespół badawczy w 1981 roku. W artykule rozważany jest potencjał działania bezprzemocowego w środowisku weteranów ATO. Czy są gotowi współtworzyć niezależne i samorządne związki zawodowe na Ukrainie? Brak wymiaru robotniczego czy też związkowego jest zasadniczą różnicą pomiędzy ruchem społecznym Majdan a Solidarnością.
    The main question of the article concerns Maidan as a social movement three years after the February 2014. Is there still a room for citizen-oriented social actions? How is it possible to build an Ukrainian civil society at the state of war officially named ATO (“anti-terrorist operation”)? The frame of reference for Maidan analysis is the social movement Solidarity as described by Alain Touraine and his research team at 1981. Analysis is focused on the ATO veteran volunteers’ potential of social nonviolent activism. Are they ready to cooperate to construct an independent and self-governed trade unions? The lack of “workers dimension” or union dimension at Maidan movement makes difference if we compare it with Solidarity.

    In Poland, like everywhere radicalization process begins in the heads but also begins online. It is like a viral disease which finds growth conditions in places affected by severe consequences of inflation, pandemic and the war in Ukraine. In our book we document the rapid growth of extreme attitudes. We pay attention to small, noisy, visible or hidden, dangerous groups that appear in many countries and threaten democracy. The majority of authors of the articles are interested in the process of radicalization, and therefore the sources of its dynamics, not radicalism as such. We understand the latter notion in the simplest possible way, as the use of symbolic and physical violence against other citizens and in public space. Most of the texts in this book are case studies, although the reader also find theoretical concepts. The authors of several articles participated in the Dialogue on Radicalization and Equality project, coordinated by the University of Manchester.

    Football fanatics fighting with fans of other clubs and with the police are a violent part not only of the Polish society Poland, but also in many other countries. The analysis is based on the results of interviews conducted in 2018-2019 as part of the Dialogue About Radicalization and Equality (DARE) research project. To explain the path of fanatics into politics, we refer to the concepts of such classical anthropologists, as Arnold van Gennep and Victor Turner. Also to the thesis that radicalization is a deeply gendered process formulated by the contemporary researcher Michel Kimmel. The article presents the process of socialization in two ways: becoming strong men and Polish patriots at the same time. The “zoom effect” proposed in the summary explains how Polish fans move from spontaneous communitas (“fanatics”) to ideological communitas (“patriots”). This is how they become allies of the populist party in Poland since 2015, which uses homophobic discourse.

    Książka jest raportem z jakościowego badania bliskiego etnografii, przeprowadzonego socjologiczną metodą obserwacji i obserwacji uczestniczącej. Odnosi się do ostatniej dekady XX wieku, kiedy przeskok z systemu sowieckiego w wolny rynek i demokrację oznaczał zmianę w każdej instytucji i w każdym przedsiębiorstwie. Autor koncentruje się na mitach, wzorach zachowań, regułach komunikacji, strukturze, a przede wszystkim na mechanizmach władzy organizacyjnej w codziennym rytualnym wydaniu.
    The book “Unique organizational culture. Sketches on subjective sociology” has two layers. The first is a sociological approach to organizational culture that differs from most studies in management and business sciences. Therefore, it can be a supplementary reading for managers and candidates for managers. The more so because in this social environment the topic of organizational culture has become so fashionable that it plays the role of a key to the success of an organization. It is also sometimes indicated as the mysterious cause of a company’s failure. The second layer is historical because the book is based on a long-term study of six organizations, conducted through participant observation over a very specific period. It was the last decade of the 20th century, when Poland was undergoing a profound transformation of society and economy. The jump from the Soviet system to the free market and democracy meant a change in every area of life. It was a time of ups and downs of thousands of businesses, small and large, not to mention unemployment, economic collapse of many industries and crises that affected many regions of Poland. The three companies described in the book – two private and one state-owned – were established during this period to disappear after several years of struggle for survival. Those local brands: Demoskop, Businessman Magazine and NOM 1044 are now forgotten, as are many others, whose founders and employees dreamed of success. In turn, three other companies featured in this book survived undergoing a phase of severe turbulence. Warsaw Town Hall, Water and Sewage Municipal Company (MPWiK) and the Museum of Modern Art have served and still serve both the inhabitants of Warsaw and numerous newcomers. After all, their fate did not depend on the market game. Each of the six organizations has been described as peculiar and unique, with the organizational culture of the breakthrough, symbolized by the Balcerowicz economic reform. It was a painful experience for society as a whole, but also an opportunity for those who wanted and were able to take advantage of it. Systemic transformation in this book is only a background for analysis, of a micro-sociological nature, focused on myths, atmosphere, patterns of behavior, communication rules, structure, and above all on the mechanisms of organizational power in the daily ritual edition.

    Książka stanowi jakościowe studium emocjonalnych światów pomagania, jakiego udzielało polskie społeczeństwo osobom uchodźczym po agresji rosyjskiej na Ukrainę w 2022 roku. Podejmuje próbę udokumentowania w duchu socjologii gorącej ruchu pomocowego zainicjowanego w Polsce po wybuchu pełnoskalowej wojny w Ukrainie. W kolejnych rozdziałach prześledzone zostały procesy pomagania na granicy i dworcach, na zapleczach odpowiedzialnych za logistykę i organizację pomocy, w punktach recepcyjnych oraz prywatnych domach i mieszkaniach osób goszczących uchodźców. W opisie uwzględniono przestrzenne usytuowanie pomagania, jego cielesność i materialność, a także wymiary społeczny i emocjonalny praktyk pomagania. Metafora łatwopalności charakteryzująca polskie społeczeństwo w czasie tego zrywu wskazuje na gwałtowność, intensywność i spektakularność reakcji, a jednocześnie na ryzyka związane z żywiołem oddolnego pomagania. Projekt „Opublikowanie monografii na temat praktyk pomagania uchodźcom wojennym z Ukrainy w 2022 r. w Polsce" został dofinansowany ze środków budżetu państwa, przyznanych przez Ministra Nauki w ramach Programu „Doskonała Nauka II – Wsparcie monografii naukowych”, nr umowy MONOG/SN/0087/2023/01.
    The book is a qualitative study of the emotional worlds of help given by Polish society to refugees after the Russian aggression against Ukraine in 2022. It attempts to document, in the spirit of `hot sociology`, the aid movement initiated in Poland after the outbreak of regular war in Ukraine. The following chapters trace the processes of helping at the border and railway stations, in the backstages responsible for logistics and organisation of aid, at reception points, and in the private homes and flats of those hosting refugees. The description considers the spatial location of helping, its corporeality and materiality, as well as the social and emotional dimensions of helping practices. The metaphor of `flammability` that characterises Polish society during this uprising points to the vehemence, intensity and spectacularity of the response, and at the same time to the risks associated with the element of grassroots helping.
