    Opis:
    Ergonomics as a discipline was in the past, is in the present, and will be in the future, an integrating constituent in occupational safety and health (OSH). This statement is based on the self-conception of ergonomics and the level concept of human work. It is further supported by the results of about 120 interviews with German experts involved in research projects of the last 2 decades and the results of a quantitative analysis of international literature. The most important themes of past research are compiled and a prognosis of research themes of the future is given. The future role of ergonomics is exemplified by its contributions to the further development of OSH management systems.

    Opis:
    A comparison of international literature in occupational safety and health (OSH) research over the years from 1980 to 1998 was conducted. The comparison is based on the different languages of the over 35,000 articles, which were collected from different databases. The distribution of languages in the analyzed data has to be considered carefully with respect to the original purpose of the data collection and the specific role of the international publication language, English. The comparison shows that in several aspects OSH research does not differ in different publication languages. In some methodological aspects, and in specific objects of research, differences between articles published in different languages can be found.

    W artykule przedstawiono dane GUS dotyczące kierowców zawodowych poszkodowanych w wypadkach przy pracy podczas kierowania pojazdami mechanicznymi w latach 2002-2004. Dane te przeanalizowano w aspekcie wieku i stażu pracy kierowców oraz rodzaju pojazdu. Spośród 641 poszkodowanych podczas kierowania środkiem transportu, największą grupę stanowili kierowcy w wieku 40-49 lat, kierowcy samochodów ciężarowych - 38,8%, a autobusów - 33,4%. Statystyki te różnie kształtują się w zależności od sektora, w którym pracują kierowcy. Zwraca uwagę także zróżnicowanie stażu pracy poszkodowanych kierowców - w sektorze prywatnym: do 2 lat, w publicznym: 10-19 lat pracy. Dane te mogą posłużyć do określania kierunków działań profilaktycznych wśród kierowców.
    This paper presents data of the Central Statistical Office concerning professional drivers injured in accidents while driving in 2002-2004. The data was analysed regarding the drivers' age and seniority. Among the 641 drivers injured while driving, the largest group comprised drivers aged 40-49, including truck drivers (38.8%) and bus drivers (33.4%). Statistics depend on the sector for which the drivers worked. Diversity of the drivers' seniority is also worth noting; up to 2 years in the public sector and 10-19 years in the private sector. These data may prove helpful in developing guidance on personal protective measures among drivers.

    Introduction. The objective of the paper was to present the results of an analysis of road accidents in professional drivers in Poland, from the point of view of their age, tenure, accident causes and effects in relation to the time of the accidents they were involved in. Method. Data were obtained from a database of the Central Statistical Office. Accidents recorded in statistical accident cards from 6 consecutive years were analysed. Results. The overall number of injured professional drivers generally decreased over the 6 years, except for the last year of the period when the tendency to fatal and severe accidents between 23:00 and 6:59 increased. The highest percentage of fatal and severe accidents was found between 23:00 and 6:59 and was caused by medical emergencies and unsafe behaviour. The tenure of 70.89% of the injured drivers was under 10 years. Drivers who had worked for over 20 years had fewest injuries between 23:00 and 6:59. Conclusion. The results of the analysis may be used in changing work schedules to reduce the accident risk of the occupational groups at greatest risk.

    Celem artykułu jest pokazanie skali problemu wypadkowości wśród kierowców flotowych, czyli pracowników, którzy nie są kierowcami zawodowymi, ale wykorzystują samochody służbowe lub własne podczas wykonywania obowiązków służbowych. Wśród kierowców flotowych są handlowcy, ekonomiści, kadra zarządzająca. W roku 2007 kierowcy flotowi stanowili ok. 70% poszkodowanych w wypadkach przy pracy w trakcie kierowania pojazdem na terenie transportu publicznego, w tym ok. 6% ze skutkiem śmiertelnym lub ciężkim uszkodzeniem ciała. W grupie poszkodowanych kierowców flotowych, ok. 26 % stanowiły kobiety. Aby zwiększyć bezpieczeństwo kierowania w tej grupie pracowników konieczne jest wprowadzenie specjalistycznych szkoleń oraz respektowanie zasad doboru pracowników z uwzględnieniem predyspozycji do kierowania pojazdem.
    This paper presents the problem of accidents among fleet drivers, i.e., employees who are not professional drivers, but who use company or their own cars at work. They are sales people, economists and managers. In 2007, fleet drivers accounted for 70% of all the employees - drivers injured in accidents while driving in public traffic areas; 6% of those accidents were fatal or resulted in substantial injuries. Twenty-six percent of this population were women. In order to increase safety of this occupational group, it is necessary to implement specialist training and proper selection criteria that consider driving skills.

    This article proposes a method for a comprehensive assessment of the effect of integral motorcycle helmets on physiological and cognitive responses of motorcyclists. To verify the reliability of commonly used tests, we conducted experiments with 5 motorcyclists. We recorded changes in physiological parameters (heart rate, local skin temperature, core temperature, air temperature, relative humidity in the space between the helmet and the surface of the head, and the concentration of O2 and CO2 under the helmet) and in psychological parameters (motorcyclists’ reflexes, fatigue, perceptiveness and mood). We also studied changes in the motorcyclists' subjective sensation of thermal comfort. The results made it possible to identify reliable parameters for assessing the effect of integral helmets on performance, i.e., physiological factors (head skin temperature, internal temperature and concentration of O2 and CO2 under the helmet) and on psychomotor factors (reaction time, attention and vigilance, work performance, concentration and a subjective feeling of mood and fatigue).
