Generic technologies are oftentimes heralded as overall beneficial drivers of innovation, especially regarding their flexibility, low cost of adaption (once established) and their inclusiveness toward a variety of actors. This paper adds to literature on innovation-studies by questioning these promises through the lenses of ‘lock in’ and ‘path dependencies’ and asks how generic approaches to innovation may contribute to a fallacy where increased flexibility is assumed yet implicitly, a sort of ‘lock in genericism’ may occur. The paper argues that, for all the advantages that come with the research and adaption of generic technologies, they also bring with them an increased risk of enamourment with innovations that are applicable to a range of potential applications that, in turn, may lead to more specific technological innovations being at the danger of becoming invisible / unwanted altogether. To investigate this phenomenon further, the paper applies the concept of ‘lock in genericism’ to the field of eVTOL-multicopter- / drone-innovation. In this context, the paper analyzes a series of three case-studies to investigate how this ‘lock-in genericism’ emerges from material, temporal and spatial components of drone-making and subsequently seeks to outline a framework for ‘integrating generic technologies’ in this particular field of application (of drones) to overcome the described lock-in in this field while maintaining their advantages. The paper concludes by discussing the relevance of the concept of ‘lock-in genericism’ on a broader level, highlighting the risk of a ‘generic turn’ in contemporary innovation practices that, in turn, requires critical reflection.

Household waste is a global problem that many countries cannot cope with and deal with difficulty. In many regions of the world, a dynamic increase in the amount of waste generated is observed, which causes significant environmental pollution and excessive use of non-renewable resources. In the case of household waste, important indicators are not only its quantity per person but also its morphology. This study compares the amount of waste generated and its morphology by a household in Sri Lanka (Colombo) and Poland (Tarnów). The presented data comes from 2022, during a time of economic crisis caused initially by the COVID-19 pandemic and then due to the war between Russia and Ukraine. Currently, Sri Lanka is going through one of the greatest economic crises in its history. Poland is currently experiencing high inflation and reduced demand for many consumer goods due to continuous price increases. These events significantly affect the demand for various types of consumer goods and, paradoxically, this may reduce the amount of waste generated. It is important to identify and implement new strategies to recycle or optimize the usage of waste and develop value added products that would, in turn, have a positive impact on the domestic waste awareness. The results of the conducted research indicate a significant share of biodegradable waste in the stream of generated waste, especially in Sri Lanka. The vast majority of generated waste can be recycled, but sorting is required. Comparing the data obtained from this case study, 71% of food waste is generated in Sri Lanka, whereas 22.1% is generated in Poland. This indicates that Poland produces a significant amount of processed food. Moreover, the recorded plastic waste produced by Polish families is twice that of Sri Lanka. Furthermore, both countries indicate a positive trend to generate more waste in the future despite economic challenges faced locally as well as globally. Therefore, it is vital to understand the amount and morphology of waste as well as to implement more efficient and economical strategies to eliminate negative impacts.

Changes in plants under the influence of a variety of chemical and physical factors are reflected in metabolomic changes. To date, there are very few methods that would allow studying metabolic changes occurring in single cells. Spectroscopic methods especially combined with the chemometrics methods are a very good tool to investigate such changes in metabolomics. Tracking changes in plants is of particular importance in industry, especially when studying how the use of fertilizers affects plants. In this paper, we present preliminary research as concept of proof to examine whether the use of FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) helps to monitor the changes in the metabolomic profile of the plants. For preliminary research, four species of cereals and cuckooflower were used. In this step, it was possible to verify the differences in metabolites that are produced by plants belonging to different families. Then one species of grain was selected and subjected to eleven different physical and chemical factors. Next, the research was expanded to determine the optimal concentration of hydrogen peroxide. FTIR spectra of leaves and extracts of the plants were obtained for all experimental groups and then analyzed with the use of chemometric methods: HCA (Hierarchical Component Analysis) and PCA (Principal Component Analysis). Those methods were used to help in the interpretation of metabolic changes resulting in the plant in response to external factors.

This paper presents a discussion on the application of two swarm intelligence algorithms, Cuckoo Search (CS) and Firey Algorithm (FA), to maximize the reliability of two complex systems with resource constraints, which have been well-known in the literature. The reliability of the systems is also evaluated using several classical methods. The results indicate that although the CS algorithm, which utilizes Lévy flight, is eective, the FA rey algorithm outperformed it in the presented optimization tasks, within the given parameter range. These ndings contribute to the ongoing discussion on using nature-inspired algorithms for solving Reliability Redundancy Allocation Problem (RRAP) problems, and the two test scenarios used in the study can be useful for validating other algorithms in RRAP problems. The paper introduces metrics and methods for analyzing and comparing the performance of algorithms in RRAP optimization, including the comparison of criterion function values and other parameters introduced in the paper. Additionally, the paper discusses statistical analyses of variance (ANOVA) with post-hoc RIR Tuckey tests.

Opis:
Manganese concentration in green and black tea (10 samples of each type) was determined by means of graphite-furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. Both the dry leaves and the infusions were analysed. The concentration of manganese in dry leaves was in the range of 502–1277 mg · kg−1 for black tea and 798–1906 mg · kg−1 for green one. Since lemon juice is commonly added for tea to enrich its taste, citric acid was used to simulate lemon juice influence on manganese concentration in the infusions. The infusions prepared with and without citric acid addition were analysed and the results showed significant influence of citric acid on manganese leaching. The average extraction levels of manganese from black tea equal 16% (for non-acidified infusions) and 34% (for acidified ones) while these values for green tea equal 13% and 38%, respectively. Statistical evaluation of the results showed that the differences between acidified and non-acidified infusions were statistically significant. High manganese content makes the tea an important source of manganese in human diet.

Red-headed crickets were kept in glass insectariums equipped with drinkers, food containers and peat boxes for laying eggs. In the first stage of the experiment, the insects were divided into three groups, kept at 20°C, 25°C and 29°C, respectively. Three days after placing the crickets in the insectariums, the eggs were counted. In the second stage, the eggs (15 pcs.) were placed in boxes with peat in insectariums and exposed to the same temperatures as the females were kept at 20°C, 25°C and 29°C respectively, and the time in which the larvae hatch in each container was observed. It was found that the thermal conditions of the environment influence the number of eggs laid by female Gryllus assimilis and the length of the embryonic period in red-headed crickets. It is estimated that in the temperature range of 20–29°C, increasing the temperature by 1°C shortens the time needed to hatch the larvae from the eggs by 2 days.

Organic matter decomposition is one of the most important processes associated with flow of energy and recirculation of organic matter in natural environments. Using commercially sold tea bags of Lipton Sencha green tea (SGT) and Lipton Ceylon black tea (CBT) their decomposition was studied in mixed and coniferous forest. At both stations 25 bags of each tea were buried for a period of 3 months. After elapsed time, the bags were dug up, dried, and the mean weight loss of organic material for each tea type and ecosystem was calculated. In the mixed forest the average weight loss of tea bags was 46.8% for Sencha and 32.1% for Ceylon tea and respectively 44.6% and 30.6%, in the coniferous forest. Statistical analysis test (ANOVA) revealed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) in rate of decomposition between tea types, however the differences between the decomposition of the same type of tea on both type of forest were insignificant.

The boiler is an enclosed vessel that transfers the energy from fuel combustion or electricity into hot water or steam. Then, this hot water or pressurized steam is used for transferring the heat to a certain heat process. Usually, the required hot water or steam keeps on varying throughout the day which also may be implied on the daily or monthly load. Therefore, several configurations of connecting the boiler into the solar heating system ensure the temperature of the final output. The boiler can be connected in series or parallel to improve the efficiency of the overall process as well as to reduce the running costs. This paper presents a simulation study of a solar heating system for industrial processes. Two flow-heater system configurations are designed for covering the heat demand of a pasteurising factory existing in Budapest, Hungary. The configuration “A” consists of a solar heating system for hot water preparation using in series flow heater configuration. While configuration “B” consists of the same solar system but with a parallel flow heater configuration. These system configurations are modelled using T*sol software for evaluating the system performance under the Hungarian climate from five different aspects: required collector area, glycol ratio, volume flow rate, relative tank capacity, and tank height-to-diameter ratio. According to the optimum design parameters, in series configuration is better than parallel by 3.14% at 45 m² collector area, 0.45% at 25% glycol ratio, 0.42% at 50 l/h · m² volume flow rate, 2.05% at 50 l/m² relative tank capacity, and 0.42% at 1.8 tank height-to-diameter ratio respectively. The results show that in series configuration is better in terms of solar fractions than parallel configuration from all five aspects.

In the article, the municipal waste management system was analyzed in the rural commune of Skrzyszów in the years 2016–2021. The analysis was prepared based on annual reports prepared and published by the Commune Office. The analysis showed that the selective waste collection system is functioning properly and that residents deliver municipal waste to the Municipal Waste Selective Collection Point (MSWCP) Pogórska Wola. Every year, the mass of municipal waste generated by residents of the Skrzyszów commune increases, in 2021 it amounted to 309 kg per person. The analysis of the fraction of municipal waste collected from households showed that biodegradable waste, bulky waste, and glass packaging have the largest mass share. Bulky waste, especially used car tires, was the dominant fraction of municipal waste delivered to MSWCP. The Skrzyszów commune has achieved the assumed recycling levels for biodegradable waste, construction waste, and paper, metals, plastics, and glass waste specified in the Waste Management Plan for the Małopolskie Voivodeship for 2016–2022.

Artykuł przedstawia koncepcje weryfikacji materiału kompozytowego zbrojonego włóknem szklanym w osnowie epoksydu mogącego znaleźć zastosowanie w nośnej konstrukcji ramy motocyklowej. Poddano analizie występujące typy ram motocyklowych umożliwiających zastosowanie kompozytów. Wytworzono próbki materiału kompozytowego z wykorzystaniem metody trzpieniowej dla wybranej konstrukcji ramy, badając wpływ różnej orientacji włókien szklanych. Próbki kompozytu poddano badaniom fizykochemicznym, określając podstawowe własności wytrzymałościowe, gęstość, pracę zniszczenia oraz przeprowadzono obserwację mikroskopową wykonanych próbek.
The article presents the concept of a glass fiber reinforced composite in an epoxy matrix that can be used in a motorcycle frame. Motorcycle frames types enabling the composites usage were analyzed. Composite material samples with different glass fibers orientations were produced using the pin method. The manufactured composite material was subjected to physicochemical tests to determine basic strength properties, density, work of destruction, and microscopic observation was carried out.

W artykule opisano proces przygotowania oraz wysyłania przez członków Studenckiego Koła Naukowego Elektroników „Amper” Akademii Tarnowskiej trzech misji balonowych. W pierwszej jego części przedstawiono ważniejsze zagadnienia związane z lotem balonu (dobór odpowiedniego osprzętu, użytego gazu czy uzyskanie niezbędnych pozwoleń). W tej części zawarto również zagadnienia związane z prognozowaniem tras przelotu, tak aby zwiększyć szanse na pozytywne przeprowadzenie całej misji. W kolejnym rozdziale opisano zarówno sprzęt projektowany przez studentów i użyty w czasie misji (radiosonda, rejestrator danych, nadajnik SSTV) jak i komercyjny (lokalizator GNSS, kamera). Kolejny rozdział opisuje oprogramowanie i osprzęt służące do monitorowania lotu balonu. W ostatnim zaprezentowano wykorzystanie systemu SondeHub. System ten umożliwia pasjonatom śledzenie tras przelotu balonów zarówno tych wysyłanych przez stacje meteorologiczne jak i amatorskich. Dodatkowo posiada system bazodanowy przechowujący komplet danych wysyłanych przez radiosondę (zarówno lokalizacyjnych jak i telemetrycznych). Artykuł stanowi notę aplikacyjną i może być pomocny dla osób chcących zrealizować własne misje stratosferyczne.
The article describes the process of preparing and sending three balloon missions by students members of the Electronics Student Scientific Club „Amper” of the University of Applied Sciences in Tarnow. The first part describes more important issues related to the balloon flight (selection of appropriate equipment, gas used and obtaining the necessary permits). This part also describes issues related to forecasting flight routes in order to increase the chances of successfully carrying out the entire mission. The next chapter describes both the equipment designed by students and used during the mission (radiosonde, data recorder, SSTV transmitter) and factory-made commercial equipment (GNSS locator, camera). The next chapter describes the software and hardware used to monitor the balloon’s flight. The last one describes the use of the SondeHub system. This system allows enthusiasts to track the flight paths of balloons, both those sent by weather stations and amateur ones. Additionally, it has a database system storing a complete set of data sent by the radiosonde (both location and telemetry). The article is an application note and may be helpful for people who want to carry out their own stratospheric missions.

Municipal waste management in Poland has been evolving since the 1990s. towards increasing recycling in accordance with the waste management hierarchy. Every community adjusts its waste management system to legal acts and control plans. The amount of collected waste per capita varies, depending on the character of the commune, environmental awareness, waste collection system, and organization of a selective waste collection point. Achieving the recycling levels of specific fractions indicated by the European Union requires a good organization of the waste collection system and the cooperation of the commune with its residents, who have a significant impact on the quality and quantity of secondary materials obtained in the source segregation process. In order to compare the amount of collected waste fractions and the achievement of recycling levels, documents on municipal waste management for 2013–2020 in selected seven communes of the Małopolskie Voivodeship, Poland were analyzed.
Gospodarka odpadami komunalnymi w Polsce ewoluuje od lat 90. XX wieku w kierunku zwiększenia recyklingu i minimalizacji składowania odpadów, zgodnie z hierarchią postpowania z odpadami. Każda gmina dostosowuje system gospodarki odpadami do ogólnych wytycznych, tj. aktów prawnych oraz planów, jednak ilość zebranych odpadów na jednego mieszkańca różni się w poszczególnych gminach w zależności od charakteru gminy, świadomości ekologicznej mieszkańców oraz systemu zbiórki odpadów, w tym lokalizacji i organizacji punktu selektywnej zbiórki odpadów. Osiągnięcie wskazanych przez Unię Europejską poziomów recyklingu danych frakcji wymaga dobrej organizacji systemu zbiórki odpadów oraz współpracy gminy z mieszkańcami, którzy mają istotny wpływ na jakość i ilość materiałów wtórnych uzyskanych w procesie segregacji u źródła. W celu porównania ilości zebranych frakcji odpadów oraz osiągnięcia poziomów recyklingu przeanalizowano dokumenty dotyczące gospodarki odpadami komunalnymi za lata 2013–2020 w wybranych siedmiu gminach województwa małopolskiego.

Opis:
The paper deals with the development of a new method for the generation of binary fingerprints based on the Savitzky-Golay (SG) algorithm and first-order derivatives of FTIR spectra, which are then used to create prediction models for selected the physicochemical properties of chemical compounds. Models based on the FEDS (Functionally- Enhanced Derivative Spectroscopy) transformation and raw spectra were used as a reference to determine whether the use of the SG filter and first-order derivatives was worth to further develop. The FTIR spectra of 103 compounds with theoretically determined values of logP, logD and logS were studied. The Tanimoto coefficient and correlation coefficient were used to compare the fingerprints obtained, while the root mean square error (RMSE) was used to assess the quality of the prediction models. Based on the results, it was found that the use of the SG filter and derivatives had a positive effect on the quality of the prediction models for logP and logS, and a negative effect on the quality of the models for logD, compared to the models based on original spectra and FEDS transformation.
