    Contemporary military conflicts are unpredictable in reference to time, place, and scale. Therefore, they require the use of modern weapon systems and platforms capable of carrying them, but above of all systems that are capable of recognizing risks and managing active counter measures. The E-3 AWACS aircraft is the platform fulfill the requirements. The article describes the organizational structure responsible for the operation of AWACS system as well as the E-3 aircraft. The paper presents the possibilities of its use in support of the Polish Air Force operations.

    Cybersecurity of air force is new challenges topic in cyberspace. I would like to describe that challenges in my article. I think important is influence of Warsaw Summit 2016 and declaration, that Nato will be use in the future also Offensive Cyber Operation. I would like to describe them. Later I would like to focus how technology changes – satellite technologies should make an evolution in Air Force (maybe Air and Space Force should be). I will also describe India develop in cybersecurity of Air Force. In the and I will describe cybersecurity of Air Force objectives, gaps of cybersecurity of Air Force and try to give recommendation what to do to strengthen cybersecurity of Air Force.

    Higher military education is nowadays undergoing numerous changes due to the “Concept of the development of higher military education in 2017-2026” adopted in 2016. The following article looks at the planned modifications in the context of training aviation personnel for the needs of the Air Force. The “Training military pilots” section discusses the process of training candidates to be military pilots, the main problems related to it as well as the nature of the system of training and educating the cadets of the Polish Air Force University. The considerations in the next section of the article concern the selection of candidates for military pilots. The recruitment, consisting of several stages, aims to efficiently identify the best candidates for service in aviation. The screening training, the aim of which is to check the predispositions of candidates for serving as pilots, is a novelty in this process. The chapter “Selection” looks at the solutions applied so far in the School of Eaglets, and also analyses the benefits of the new recruitment method. The final sections of the article concern the profile of the graduates of the Polish Air Force University, their target skills and the development plans of the University in the face of the challenges posed.

    Użycie systemów bezzałogowych statków powietrznych do rozpoznania powietrznego jest nieodłącznym elementem współczesnego pola walki. Dynamika oraz obszar na jakim prowadzone są działania powodują konieczność prowadzenia ciągłej obserwacji pola walki. Jednym z najnowocześniejszych systemów bezzałogowych statków powietrznych szczebla strategicznego przeznaczonym do prowadzenia rozpoznania powietrznego jest RQ-4 Global Hawk – system, który powstał stosunkowo niedawno, jednakże posiadający ogromny wpływ na rozwój taktyki jak również w wielu przypadkach decydujący o osiąganiu założonych celów operacji. Celem niniejszej publikacji jest przedstawienie możliwości wykorzystania systemu bezzałogowych statków powietrznych RQ-4 Global Hawk do rozpoznania powietrznego.
    Use of unmanned aircraft systems in air reconnaissance is an integral part of the modern battlefield These activities are carried out dynamically causing the need for permanent battlefield observation. One of the most modern strategic level unmanned aircraft systems designed to conduct reconnaissance is the RQ-4 Global Hawk – a system which was created relatively recently. However, Global Hawk had a huge impact on the development of tactics and, in many cases, was decisive in an operation achieving its tragets. The aim of this publication is to present the possibility of using the unmanned aircraft system RQ-4 Global Hawk in air reconnaissance.

    Wydaje się, że przestrzeń pomiędzy pokojem a wojną stanowi obszar przejściowy dla wykorzystania innych środków niż bezpośrednie użycie siły prowadzące do konfliktu o dużej intensywności. To właśnie w tej domenie wysiłki polityków i dyplomatów w coraz większym stopniu opierają się na groźbie użycia siły, która w konsekwencji może zapobiec eskalacji konfliktu prowadzącego do wybuchu wojny. Jest to obszar strategicznego wymuszania, w którym staramy się przekonać potencjalnego przeciwnika do zachowania status quo albo do zmiany zachowania zgodnie z naszymi oczekiwaniami. Odpowiada to dwóm kategoriom wymuszania: odstraszaniu oraz podporządkowaniu. Jednym z kluczowych instrumentów strategicznego wymuszania są siły powietrzne. Predysponują je do tego specyficzne atrybuty: globalny zasięg, elastyczność użycia, mobilność i szybkość, których kombinacyjne użycie pozwala w skalowalny sposób na użycie siły lub groźbę jej użycia. W konsekwencji w określonej sytuacji, siły powietrzne mogą samodzielnie osiągać założone cele działań. W artykule dokonano deskrypcji zjawiska związanego z obszarem strategicznego wymuszania oraz przedstawiono praktyczne aspekty użycia sił powietrznych jako instrumentu strategicznego wymuszania.
    It seems that the space between peace and war constitutes an area for the use of other measures than direct application of force, which leads to a conflict of high intensity. In this domain, the efforts of politicians and diplomats have been increasingly relying on the threat of using force, which, in consequence, may prevent the escalation of the conflict leading to war. This is the area of strategic coercion, in which we try to convince a potential enemy to maintain the status quo or to change its behaviour in accordance with our expectations. This corresponds to two categories of coercion: deterrence and compellence. One of the key instruments of strategic coercion is the air force. The air force is predisposed for this task due to specific attributes: global reach, flexibility of use, mobility and speed, which, in combination, allow for the use of force in a scalable manner or for the threat of using it. In consequence, in a specific situation, the air force may achieve the assumed goals of the actions on its own. This paper contains a description of the phenomena associated with the area of strategic coercion and a presentation of the practical aspects of the use of air force as an instrument of strategic coercion.

    Use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in air reconnaissance is one of the integral part of the modern battlefield. Dynamism and area of those activities are carry out causing the need for a permanent battlefield observation. Irrespective of the level of those activities are carried out (strategic, operational, tactical) information is a crucial factor in obtaining superiority over the opponent. In many cases effective reconnaissance have a decisive impact for the achievement of the objectives of the operations. The aim of this publication is to present experience and possibility of using unmanned aerial vehicles in the air reconnaissance in selected military conflict.

    Teoria i praktyka działań lotnictwa wojskowego w walce zbrojnej ewoluują od niemal 100 lat, lecz w znacznej mierze bazują one na poglądach Gulio Douheta, uznanego za klasyka lotniczej myśli wojennej. W artykule dokonano konfrontacji podstawowych założeń teorii Douheta z poglądami innych myślicieli oraz założeniami doktrynalnymi i praktyką użycia lotnictwa w wielu konfliktach zbrojnych. Krytyczna analiza teorii i praktyki działań lotnictwa wskazuje na wiele uniwersalnych myśli Douheta, które ciągle są aktualne i oddziałują nawet na obecne użycie lotnictwa w walce zbrojnej. Część jego poglądów została zweryfikowana negatywnie zarówno przez teorię, jak i praktykę i została oddalona jako nieaktualna, a nawet utopijna. Systematycznie rosnąca potęga lotnictwa, potwierdzana we współczesnych konfliktach zbrojnych inspiruje jednak do ponownego przeanalizowania teorii G. Douheta, gdyż niektóre sfalsyfikowane jego myśli obecnie przybierają znamiona wiarygodnych, a nawet ponadczasowych.
    The theory and practice of military aviation in an armed struggle have been evolving for nearly 100 years but they are mainly based on the views of Gulio Douhet, well-known as a classic thinker on aviation war. This article looks at the confrontation of basic assumptions of Douhet’s theory with the views of other thinkers as well as doctrinal assumptions and the practice of the use of aviation in many armed conflicts. The critical analysis of the theory and practice of aviation activities reveals many of Douhet’s universal thoughts which are still valid and have an impact on the present use of aviation in armed combat. Some of his views have been verified negatively in both theory and practice, and have been rejected as outdated and even utopian. However, the systematically growing power of aviation, proved in modern armed conflicts, inspires us to re-examine G. Douhet’s theory, as some of his falsified thoughts are currently taking on the characteristics of reliable and even timeless ones.

    Opis:
    Wooded-lake area is a relatively challenging for troops, since its distinctive character causes the necessity to employ specific tactics. A number of obstacles on a given ground and low road density contribute to limited operational mobility and the necessity of fighting in opposite and often remote directions while equally employing helicopters to a large extent. Therefore, both planning and establishment of military activities on wooded-lakes areas create a favorable opportunity to employ unconventional tactics, develop the initiative, and stimulate various activities.The data included in the study presented hereby was verified in the course of the military rehearsals held at the National Defense University in years past, the scenarios of which were located in the Masurian Lake District. Not only did the above-mentioned fact enable the exploration of the crucial aspects affecting the operations of helicopter-borne combat assaults and air assault task forces in the circumstances, but it also helped to identify the challenges faced by such elements of combat formations carrying out both offensive and defensive activities on wooded-lake terrain. In the author’s point of view, the conclusions drawn may be as well employed in the processes of planning and fighting in more convenient area’s conditions.
