    This study analyses the relationship between war and population, and the impact of the growth and decline of population on important types of warfare – armed conflicts and classic war. At its root, the importance of the link between demography and war is the relative capacity of a given political unit’s population to aid in its defence or to threaten other political units. For this reason, population increase and decrease have always been identified as vital security issues. Demography and war will continue to be an important and policy-relevant topic.

    Security studies are one of the disciplines included in the area of social sciences. A subject of security studies research is modern safety systems in terms of military and non-military actions and their functioning at different organisational levels. These systems include the activities of the institutions of a state, the government and the local government, businesses, and community organisations. Research on the discipline should be used to create theoretical bases and the development of international and national security systems, operating systems in the area of security. The aim of the article is to show the relationship between polemology and security studies. Due to its interdisciplinary nature, polemology is dependent on security studies, in this regard.

    The aim of this study is to indicate the roots of armed conflicts based on an analysis of a variety of theoretical approaches. The methodological framework for this research is Kenneth Waltz’s concept of analytical levels’ causes of armed conflicts: (1) the level of individual; (2) the level of the state; (3) the level of the international system. The armed conflicts are also generated by the nature of state regime and society, security dilemma mechanism, diversity between economic development, and rapidly growing population. The anarchy of the international system causes war, particularly due to the imbalance of power, power transition, challenging the hegemonic state by a rising power. The author presents a proposition of systematizing roots of armed conflicts and highlight the need for starting a discussion about developing approaches for the analysis of the roots of modern armed conflicts. The starting point for discussion is introduced the concept of primary and supplementary approaches.
