In order to be able to use the method of surveying satisfaction of production departments with the services provided by maintenance departments, one must first acquire and analyse considerable amounts of data. Such an attempt may only be successful if an appropriate information tool is used. This article provides a discussion on the concept of an MS Excel spreadsheet application for the sake of creating such a tool. The author has proposed a specific data structure enabling storage of the data acquired in the course of research. The entities occurring in it have been identified and discussed, and so have the attributes assigned to individual entities. The author has also elaborated on the spreadsheet mechanisms which allow for data processing in accordance with the premises of the aforementioned method.

Opis:
Electronic equipment used in transport operates under various conditions. Due to characteristic nature of their application, they should be highly reliable. This paper presents a methodology of optimising a bistable operation process of those systems factoring in economic factors, i.e. the funding allocated to routine inspections. Its practical application was also discussed, which would entail computer aided maintenance software.

The article presents the results of research into the time of work of maintenance department employees in a selected production plant. The measurements have been taken for three selected employees during 9 working days. Major activities performed by the employees have been identified and classified in three basic groups: the effective time devoted to daily duties connected with technical means maintenance, the auxiliary time which involves preparatory and administrative works as well as the ineffective time during which the employees undertook activities not related to the performed work. Among the ineffective and auxiliary activities the longest lasting ones have been specified. By means of the 5Why Method the causes responsible for the occurrence of major ineffective and auxiliary activities have been identified. As a result of the conducted analysis, corrective measures aimed at shortening the time of these activities have been identified, which should contribute to the improvement of maintenance department employees’ work effectiveness.

The state of the technical infrastructure determines the degree to which the quality requirements of products are met and has a significant impact on occupational safety. The purpose of this study is to build a universal model for supporting quality management, which allows the effective implementation of a wide-ranging research path supporting the evaluation of the relationship between the degree of modernity of product processing technology and the quality of the final product and the level of occupational safety. The developed model is verified by its implementation in one of the turning stations. A practical test of the quality management support model confirms that the practice of conducting analyzes of the level of modernity of infrastructure with its application contributed to identifying critical machine components, examining factors affecting the quality of technological operations, reducing uncertainty and the risk of risky events, and conducting activities in line with the concept of continuous improvement. The course of action detailed in the model makes it possible to determine the relationships that exist between key categories of factors and critical product defects, and accidents and near-misses. This allows for the proposal of adequate improvement measures. Further studies concern the implementation of the model at other workstations in the foundry company.

Opis:
Searching for a safe ship, this paper presents operational strategies which are used for ship power system maintenance, conditions for their realization have been shown. The procedure of risk analysis has been decomposed and its stages have been discussed. Methods of risk evaluation and methods of ship power system threat identification have been analyzed. The choice of risk evaluation method has been made for the management of maintenance of elements of the system taking into account good maritime practice, ICM code, regulations of classification societies and international maritime organizations. Studies on possibilities of extending operational time of the engine from the main power system using risk analysis with the Expert Method have been presented. On the basis of the results of studies, applicability of the Expert Method for risk analysis on ships has been shown.

The article presents the results of investigations into the failure frequency of a selected strategic machine, i.e. a plastic extruder working in an enterprise manufacturing pre-insulated pipes for the needs of the heatgenerating industry. The analysis has been focused on the time of failure-free work, the time of waiting for a failure to be repaired and the time of failure removal by means of MTBF, MTTR and MTR indicators. The analysis has been conducted in the aspect of machine’s work with uneven load, which is forced by the seasonal, changeable character of the production volume. Changes in the determined indicators were examined in particular production periods and at monthly intervals during a calendar year. The research analysis and the conclusions formulated on its basis made it possible to put forward a proposal of measures aimed at improving the current situation and ensuring a better effectiveness of activities undertaken by maintenance teams, as well as their better co-operation with production departments.

Due to special conditions of functioning of machinery and devices used in coal mining, the process of its selection is important and should comprise variability of working conditions. A short review of methods of assessment of coal workability used as yet was done and the results were divided into groups. Significance of measurements and assessment of mechanical characteristics (including workability) is proven by worldwide in scientific centres by numerous elaborated methods of its assessment. In the article new devices used in determining and assessing mechanical characteristics of coal that significantly influence durability and reliability of mining machinery were described.

The paper is focusing on exploitation process of transport devices based on preventive strategy approach. The two - condition based technical state of the device under operation has been described. Komputerowe systemy wspomagające zarządzanie eksploatacją maszyn i urządzeń oraz utrzymaniem ruchu w przedsiębiorstwach, z powodzeniem znalazły zastosowanie w wielu gałęziach przemysłu. Na przestrzeni ostatnich lat systemy te ulegały istotnym przeobrażeniom. Nieuchronnym wydaje się również wprowadzenie tych systemów do obsługi jednostek pływających. W przypadku wdrożenia, systemy te, pozwalają na optymalizację w zakresie: zapasów magazynowych, części i materiałów, zaopatrzenia, usług zewnętrznych oraz prac konserwacyjnonaprawczych, co przekłada się na efekty ekonomiczne przedsiębiorstwa.
During recent years computer maintenance management systems in enterprises have been changing significantly. These systems were successfully applied to many branches of industry. It seems to be inevitable to implement these systems for ship maintenance. When maintenance management systems are implemented it makes it possible to optimise the following: inventory management, delivery management, outsourcing and maintenance tasks, what affects the economical effects of enterprise.

The article presents test results related to evaluation of work performance ability of maintenance workers. The test results are part of the innovative research method serving for measurement of perceived service quality and work ability of maintenance workers. The aim of the method is to identify which of the issues in question have the largest meaning in workers’ opinion and how they are evaluated. The method supports selection of these issues, evaluation of which should be improved first of all, on the base of mutual evaluation value and weight. Due to the above, the effective improvement of work conditions of maintenance workers is possible. The questionnaire survey was carried out on the sample of 25 maintenance employees at various levels in one of enterprises from automobile industry. The most important problems occurring within the maintenance department operation have been identified and in consequence recommendations for their correction have been stated.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczące oceny możliwości wykonywania pracy przez pracowników utrzymania ruchu. Wyniki badań stanowią cześć nowatorskiej metody badawczej, służącej mierzeniu postrzeganej jakości usług i możliwości pracy pracowników utrzymania ruchu. Celem metody jest zidentyfikowanie, które z poruszanych zagadnień mają zdaniem pracowników największe znaczenie i w jaki sposób są oceniane. Metoda wspomaga wybór tych zagadnień, których ocenę należy poprawić w pierwszej kolejności na podstawie wzajemnych wartości oceny oraz istotności. Dzięki temu możliwa jest efektywna poprawa warunków pracy pracowników działu utrzymania ruchu. Badanie ankietowe przeprowadzono na próbie 25 pracowników utrzymania ruchu różnych szczebli w jednym z przedsiębiorstw branży motoryzacyjnej. Zidentyfikowano najważniejsze problemy występujące w pracy działu utrzymania ruchu, a w efekcie sformułowano zalecenia służące ich poprawie.

This study proposes a new methodology for the accurate risk assessment of railway freight wagons that has real-world applications in the operation and maintenance of freight vehicles. The paper specifically focuses on the analysis of posterior reliability calculation methods using Weibull’s reliability model to calculate reliability indicators by which the probability of occurrence of individual failures can be estimated. The consequences of failure are calculated through an existing system from the General contract used for freight wagons (AVV). The formula for calculating the risk value is based on a classical risk theory, where the risk is defined as a combination of the occurrence of a negative phenomenon and the severity of its consequence. The reasoning for this approach was in an effort to maintain simplicity and clarity for potential users in practice. This is based on the information gathered in examining the current state of risk management in the sector of railway vehicles in Slovakia. The data used for risk calculations were taken from a maintenance workshop in Slovakia to provide a realistic picture of the failure rates of freight wagons. The proposed methodology uses historical data for prediction of reliability for the next years. Based on the reliability being a function of time, the risk associated with it is variable, increasing with time. These findings have broader implications for the maintenance systems taken appropriate maintenance actions necessary with respect to increased risk.

This study investigates FMECA analysis and its potential use in improving the reliability and maintenance of the thermal deburring machine in a manufacturing company located in Slovakia. In the beginning, an overview of the FMEA/FMECA methods and their utilization for increased reliability are discussed. As a practical solution, the deburring machine EXTRUDE HONE TEM P-350 was chosen. Functions of its systems and components, thermal deburring process, its characteristics and in practice application are described. Maintenance policy in the company and the current state of maintenance of the machine are also presented. In addition, the study includes failure analysis which evaluates the riskiest systems of the machine. One element, hydraulic unit, is a subject for the FMECA analysis which envisions the assessment of the current failure modes using risk priority number (RPN) and proposals of prevention and detection action reducing the level of RPN. The final section focuses on influencing and improving maintenance and summarizing the potential benefits of FMECA Analysis for company and machine operation.

This article examines the differences in the lifetime of mud pumps, which are part of the equipment on (ultra) deep-water drillships, depending on the strategy of maintenance. The authors conducted research on mud pumps to create an efficient diagnostic tool to help pumps operators on daily maintenance routines. We have created drilling process diagrams, one pertaining to the operation of mud pumps for which maintenance is carried out without technical supervision, the other including diagnostic maintenance. The diagrams show differences pump failure frequency.
