- The above considerations demonstrate that in their preaching, the Eastern Churches wanted to spread the Gospel so that it could move the people as the Saviour’s Word. If, in many cases, the preachers were monks, their preaching was very spiritual and ascetic. The preachings considered the political and social situation of the members of individual Eastern Churches. The churches were, to much extent, located on Muslim territories where they were persecuted. The preaching took this difficult situation of eastern christians into consideration as well. Now, the majority of the Eastern Churches are persecuted by Muslims or limited, as in Russia. This situation is a demonstration of the martyrdom of the Eastern Christians.
