Opis:
This paper deals with a quadrature-booster phase shifter for power flow control and for transient stability improvement in AC transmission systems. The PWM AC bipolar matrix chopper (MC) is proposed for the control of the qudrature voltage component of the original voltage. There are presented in this paper both steady and transient state analyses of a transmission system with passive load based on averaged circuit models. Furthermore, simulation and experimental test results obtained in a three-phase 3 kVA laboratory model are also presented.

Opis:
In the paper specification of a complex converter designed as an interface between a supercapacitor energy storage battery and other DC auxiliary links, with emphasis on its control system, and some laboratory investigation results, is presented. The converter applied in the solution contains a DC/DC power controller and a DC/AC/DC medium frequency intermediate link with a transformer, permitting good voltage matching. Specific control of both cooperating converters in accordance with the proposed solution gives the possibility of synchronized and phase controlled operation of DC/DC and DC/AC converters resulting in the impact on the AC current wave shape. In this way AC link switching and conducting loss minimize and improving of interface efficiency have been emphasized.

Opis:
In recent years, the detailed modelling of power electronic devices and their behaviours on various system conditions are a great concern of the power industries and customers. One of the widely proliferated such devices is the triac controlled ac choppers. Although these types of devices have important application areas, their poor power factor is the main obstacle for the large scale implementation in power systems. This paper presents an analysis on the behaviour of a single phase load composed with triac controlled ac chopper during the reactive power compensation with a basic capacitor in nonsinusoidal voltage case. The results of these analysis show that the distortion of voltage improves power factor, which is contradicting with previous findings, for the high conduction angles of triac controlled ac chopper. In addition, it is observed that the performance of power factor improvement with a basic capacitor is noticeably affected by the phase angles of voltage harmonics, which is an extensively ignored issue in the literature.

Opis:
In this paper, the classical control techniques are applied to the neutral point in a 3-phase 4-wire DC-AC power converter. The converter is intended to be connected to 3-phase 4-wire loads and/or the power grid. The neutral point can be steadily regulated by a simple controller, involving in voltage and current feedback, even when the three-phase converter system (mostly, the load) is extremely unbalanced. The achievable performance is analyzed quantitatively and the parameters of the neutral leg are determined. Simulations show that the proposed theory is very effective.

Static Series Kompensator (SSC)
Opis:
The paper deals with the possibility of employing the Custom Power Static Series Compensator (SSC), whose primary aim is to compensate voltage sags, also as a Reactive Power Compensator. The idea arises from the observation that such device does not work for the majority of time and can therefore be usefully employed for other purposes, such as power factor corrections. To this aim, an "ad hoc" control algorithm is developed and thoroughly discussed in the paper. The effectiveness of such control scheme is then tested by applying the SSC to a load represented by an induction motor in order to improve its power factor. The whole system is modelled with the aid of the electromagnetic code PSCAD -EM TDC, which allows to describe with high detail all its components. The results of the simulations show the good response of the device, which enables to rapidly increase the power factor of the motor and maintains the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD ) of the injected phase voltages under the threshold value of 8%, as prescribed by CEI EN 50160 3.11.

Opis:
For wind turbines that feed into public grids limits for voltage and current harmonics must be assured. To verify that the actual levels are valid, measurements are necessary. Problems can occur to determine which part of these harmonics has its origin in the wind turbine. It is shown that also harmonics which originally have zero sequences can be transferred over a delta-star-transformer, if the currents of the wind turbine are asymmetric due to unbalanced loads. Measurements in an existing wind turbine configuration are discussed, which confirm the described effects.
