    Opis:
    Transport plays an important role in the economy of any country. Efficient and developed transport infrastructure of various modes of transport significantly affects the availability of transport services, and consequently, the well-being of citizens. This article presents an analysis of the volume of passengers and cargo transport using rail and road transport in Poland in 2009-2019. These analyses were carried out based on data obtained from the Central Statistical Office. All data concerns Polish entities that provide services in the field of passenger and freight transport in Poland and focuses on such information as the volume of passengers and cargo by individual means of transport, broken down into domestic and international transport. Further, the presented analyses concern the length of the available rail and road routes, tracks, the size of the rolling stock as well as the groups of transported loads.

    This article shows the development of high-speed rail in the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), its development stages and the shipping companies dealing with this business activity. Special attention was given to the progress in the technical solutions of the track infrastructure as well as during the build of the rolling stock and engines. The high-speed rail was presented in the context of the general development of the economy and transport in Germany. This article contains a synthetic approach to the effects of the functioning of high-speed rail and its financing, as well as further directions and development prospects. Also, this article is based on thoughts, authors’ own research and factual sources of polish and western literature.

    Opis:
    Main requirements for rolling stock design and organization of the operating system are determined by membership in a certain transportation category for which such a transportation facility is designated. Thus, a specific feature of rolling stock operation is considered to the maximum extent, and functional correspondence with stated tasks is ensured. The significant disadvantage of the existing structure of rolling stock traffic is the necessity of time-space agreements of passenger traffic due to the necessity of shifting different transport types with the minimum time consumption. The solution to such an issue can be found in the development and use of a universal (multifunctional) integrated transport system. The list of issues arising during the creation of a multifunctional transport system can be funnelled into two groups: social and economic and organizational and technical. The first group is social and economic and shall conceptually solve issues of the multifunctional system feasibility for certain urban settlement conditions (conglomerate of urban settlements). The second group consists of organizational and technical issues. This study proposes to eliminate certain material issues in the sphere of suburban and urban traffic by the infrastructure improvement with the significant traffic increase and fluctuations.

    Opis:
    The volume of passenger and freight transport on a given railway line depends on many socio-economic factors. Therefore, before starting an investment on a railway line, various analyses are carried out regarding the choice of the line and the scope of works. This article presents the calculation of weights determining the impact of specific socio-economic factors on the volume of rail passenger and freight transport using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Thereafter, a comparison was made of 12 railway lines located in various regions of Poland in terms of their use in both passenger and freight transport. Half of the analysed railway lines are main lines, while the other part are local lines. The comparison made it possible to arrange the selected lines regardless of their category.

    Artykuł dotyczy problemu postrzegania przez pasażerów parametrów usług transportu kolejowego. Zagadnienie to zostało przedstawione opierając się na badaniach wartości czasu w transporcie pasażerskim. Jest to czynnik, który ma istotny wpływ na decyzje dotyczące wyboru środka transportu. Czas stanowi wartość, zatem oszczędność czasu wynikająca z szybszej podróży ma swój wymiar monetarny. W zależności od subiektywnej wartości czasu, użytkownicy transportu są skłonni płacić więcej za krótszą podróż, co zostało wykazane na podstawie empirycznego badania preferencji deklarowanych, przeprowadzonego na wybranych trasach kolejowych w Polsce. Wyniki badania pokazały, że istotna część pasażerów wykazuje skłonność do ponoszenia większej opłaty za przejazd pod warunkiem uzyskania krótszego czasu przejazdu. Odpowiednie sprofilowanie usług transportowych może pozytywnie wpłynąć na wizerunek transportu kolejowego oraz wielkość realizowanych przewozów.
    The article refers to the passengers' perception of rail services parameters, what is discussed in the context of the time factor and its value in rail transport. Time factor has significant impact on passengers’ decisions regarding the modal choice and willingness to pay. Time has value, therefore time savings, resulting from faster travel, have monetary dimension. Depending on the subjective value of time, transport users declare to pay more for a shorter trip, what is revealed in the empirical survey done at selected train routes in Poland. The results show that significant proportion of passengers accept higher fares, subject to a shorter travel time.

W podsumowaniu artykułu przedstawiono generalne wnioski dotyczące rozwoju transportu pasażerskiego w omawianych regionach świata.
    The paper is devoted to the discussion of the development of the passenger transportation in the United States, Europe and Asia in years 1980-2010. The first three sections of the paper present the development of the passenger transportation in general as well as by means of transportation of the principal branches, pointing out the development tendencies in America, Europe and Asia. The Conclusions section presents the overall concluding remarks on the development of passenger transportation in the parts of the world concerned.

    The objective of this contribution is the application of a new methodology for assessing connectivity in passenger transport regarding selected tariff points accessibility in the context of developing the selected region. From the passenger´s point of view, it is necessary to specially assess the accessibility of lines within transportation, between the selected destinations using passenger air transport. The length of the travel time, the number of necessary transfers and the number of travel opportunities affects the possibilities of transport between place A and B. The connections and lines are thus influenced by many factors. This is the basic point to consider when designing a set of evaluation criteria for assessing the connectivity and in carrying out a case study for a specific region. In this paper, Václav Havel Airport in Prague (Czech Republic) with selected air transport connections were evaluated according to the proposed methodology.
