Opis:: The evolution of the approach to the public sector has been changing the expectations towards the sector’s organisations in a substantial manner. A particular challenge was the departure from the classic Weber management model, postulated in the new public management (NPM), towards market mechanisms, precedence of performance criteria, public sector functioning based on principles similar to the ones applicable to the private sector. The direction of these changes resulted in the permeation of the concepts used in the private sector to the public sector. One of these includes the dynamic capabilities concept. Dynamic capabilities can constitute an organisation’s potential for systemic problem solving, resulting from the mindfulness of the signals deriving from an organisation’s environment to ensure the correct direction of functioning and development of a public sector organisation. The paper includes an attempt to answer the question whether the concept of dynamic capabilities can constitute an answer to the changing expectations towards public sector organisations? The research method used in the paper is the literature study.

Opis:: Purpose: The aim of the research was to identify views regarding the capability of enterprises as expressed by members of their managerial staff. The research paid particular attention to the issue of "dynamism" of capabilities, that is, the capability itself and how to distinguish dynamic capabilities from non-dynamic capabilities. Design/methodology/approach: The research was carried out using the qualitative method, by collecting and analysing the written statements of management representatives from twenty- seven companies of various sizes and industries. Findings: The ability to distinguish oneself from the competition is a basic issue in the formation of the company's strategy. However, as demonstrated in the literature review, the newer theory of enterprise capability, which is dynamic capabilities, is not only constantly changing, but the background is still not clear enough to be a useful tool for management practitioners. These findings have led to the formulation of questions as to what extent and how management practitioners use theories about organisational capabilities? How do they understand this issue and how do they put it into practice? Thanks to empirical research, it is possible to answer these questions. Seven clear differences were identified between dynamic and non-dynamic capability portfolios that are closer in character to distinctive capabilities or core competence. These differences are the main components of two different ways of understanding the logic of an organisation's operation. Practical implications: Empirical research has identified the beliefs that limit the ability to perceive the role or capabilities of dynamic capabilities in practice. The research also suggests a possible scenario for the dynamisation of the capacity portfolio. Social implications: The results of the study highlight the role of the linguistic representation of knowledge in the field of management and its impact on the pro-innovation ("prodynamics") of managerial thinking. In this way, they refer to educational strategies aimed at the professionalisation of managerial staff. Originality/value: This study presents real ways of understanding the issue of the organisational capabilities of management practitioners. The results may be useful for practicing managers, specialists in the field of managerial education, as well as researchers exploring the issues of dynamic capabilities and organisational competences.

Opis:: W artykule podjęto próbę uchwycenia istoty zdolności sieciowej organizacji oraz jej składników i wymiarów. Celem artykułu jest empiryczne sprawdzenie, czy istniejące w praktyce gospodarczej wymiary zdolności sieciowej pokrywają się z wymiarami przedstawionymi i zaproponowanymi w warstwie teoretycznej. Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań wskazują na istnienie czterech wymiarów zdolności sieciowej: koordynacja, zdolność relacyjna, wiedza o partnerach oraz komunikacja wewnętrzna.
The paper attempts to capture the essence of the network capability of the organizations and its constituents and dimensions. The aim of the paper is an empirical verification of whether the existing business practice dimensions of the network capability correspond to the dimensions laid down and proposed in the theoretical level. Results of this study indicate the existence of four dimensions of network capability: coordination, relational ability, knowledge of partners and internal communication.

Opis:: Purpose: Based on the resource-based view theory, environmental uncertainty perspective, and causal complexity in firms, this study aims to identify the causal pathways of organizational resources, dynamic capabilities and technological uncertainty leading to digital transformation from a holistic perspective. Design/methodology/approach: Considering the gap in the existing literature on the configuration of internal and external factors affecting digital transformation, this study conducts a set-theoretic analysis using fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fs/QCA). The fs/QCA focuses on the effects of causal conditions that allow for more detailed discovery and understanding of the causal mechanisms of digital transformation. Thirty-three manufacturing SMEs were selected and fs/QCA was used to explore how companies can engage resources and dynamic capabilities to achieve digital transformation in the face of a highly uncertain external environment. Findings: As the research shows, both high and low levels of digital maturity can be achieved through various pathways of causal conditions. There is synergy between technological uncertainty and relational and portfolio technological resources or between technological uncertainty and sensing and seizing capabilities that can jointly promote digital transformation. Research limitations/implications: The analysis is based on a limited number of cases. In order to generalize the results, a larger sample from multiple industries can be collected and analyzed, thus refining the findings and increasing the level of universality. Future research should also be extended to different levels and theoretical perspectives to analyze the different factors influencing digital transformation. Practical implications: According to the research, managers should avoid "one size fits all" strategies and follow a pathway based on their resources and capabilities, especially dynamic to promote digital transformation or analyze environmental changes, as the digital era is inextricably linked to a high degree of technological uncertainty. Originality/value: This research enhances understanding of the interdependence of causal conditions (i.e. organizational resources, dynamic capabilities and technological uncertainty) in established relationships with the outcome – the level of digital maturity. It also provides implications for the digital transformation of manufacturing SMEs.

Opis:: Purpose: The aim of the article is to characterise and identify the role of dynamic innovative capabilities in enterprise development. Design/methodology/approach: The research was conducted using a standardised structured interview questionnaire with managers of aviation companies in Poland. Findings: The results of the study indicate the importance of dynamic innovation capabilities in improving competitiveness as well as coping with a dynamic environment. Research limitations/implications: A limitation of the research conducted is the size of the research sample. This may provide an indication of the direction of future research concentrating on cross-sectional studies in companies from other sectors. This would provide a basis for formulating conclusions with a higher degree of generalisability. Practical implications: The theoretical considerations presented and the conclusions drawn from the research can provide enterprise managers with valuable information on the use of dynamic capabilities to integrate, reconfigure and renew their resources for innovation. Social implications: Enterprise managers should be aware of the importance and relevance of dynamic innovation capabilities in the context of contemporary challenges and enhancing innovation and competitiveness. Originality/value: Due to its cognitive value and high practical relevance for business managers, the paper contributes on the role of dynamic innovative capacity by providing a voice in the ongoing discussion.
