Opis:
Purpose: identification of effective mechanisms of organizational adaptation under high uncertainty in light of the assumptions of the complexity theory. Design/methodology/approach: The approach adopted involves literature review, including an interdisciplinary ground of complexity theory. Findings: The content of the article includes the conceptualization of patterns as schemata at the level of an organization, recognition of the relationship between schemata and organizational routines as an area subject to shaping, and identification of the dynamics of routines depending on the degrees of uncertainty. Research limitations/implications: The results of the study are presented in the form of theoretical framework enabling further testing. Originality/value: Conceptualization of the contextual nature of routines depending on the degree of uncertainty as a mechanism of change and stability in the organization.

Opis:
Podejmowanie decyzji jest zasadniczym elementem procesów zarządczych organizacji. Sieć czynników je determinujących, ich niepewność i niestabilność stały się immanentnymi cechami tego procesu. Wybór optymalnych rozwiązań spośród istniejących alternatyw wymaga stosowania metod przystających do tych warunków. Jedną z nich jest model Cynefin, wywodzący się z teorii systemów adaptacyjnych i kognitywistyki. W artykule zaprezentowano założenia modelu Cynefin w kontekście możliwości kształtowania procesów decyzyjnych w warunkach niepewności.
Decision making is an essential part of management processes. Network factors, their uncertainty and instability have become inherent features of these processes. Selection of optimal solutions of existing alternatives require use methods which have agreed to these conditions. The paper presents the basic assumptions and possibilities of using Cynefin framework for modeling complex decision making processes under uncertainty.

W pracy przedstawiono model, który wspomaga określenie optymalnych inwestycji drogowych na podstawie kryteriów mających wpływ na funkcjonowanie danego przedsięwzięcia. W artykule zaprezentowano strukturę hierarchiczną kryteriów, które mają zasadniczy wpływ na inwestycje drogowe. Ze względu na możliwość pojawienia się niepewności w ocenie względem poszczególnych kryteriów zaproponowano rozwiązanie uwzględniające tę niepewność w ocenie inwestycji przez wykorzystanie liczb rozmytych jako reprezentacji ocen. W artykule uwzględniono również stopień wpływu poszczególnych kryteriów na ocenę inwestycji drogowej, wprowadzając zmienną określającą ważność poszczególnych kryteriów. Zaprezentowano dodatkowo przykład obrazujący zaproponowany model na podstawie dwóch inwestycji drogowych.
The paper presents a model that helps to determine the optimal road investments on the basis of criteria affecting the operation of the project. The article presents a hierarchical structure of criteria, which have a major impact on road investments. Due to the possibility of the appearance of uncertainty in the assessment in relation to individual criteria, it presented a solution taking into account the uncertainty in the assessment of investment through the use of fuzzy numbers as representations ratings. The study also takes into account the degree of influence of individual criteria for the evaluation of road investment to introduce a variable determining the validity criteria. Presented further example illustrating the proposed model based on two road projects.

Purpose: The aim of the article is a Viewpoint based on the General Review of the state of knowledge regarding current trends in project management, taking into account the high volatility of the environment and the increasing complexity of social and technological systems. Design/methodology/approach: The article presents a narrative review of the literature and refers to the results of the author's own research. Findings: With the increasing volatility of the environment and the increasing complexity of social and technological systems, the importance of using hybrid project management and the process approach to management in organisations will increase. Practical implications: Nowadays, a vast majority of organisations manage projects in a traditional way. Observations contained in the article will contribute to the potential attention of decision-makers and the implementation of new management methods in organisations. Social implications: Projects are not only inscribed in the activities of the organisation but also their results affect the quality of life of the population. By improving the efficiency of project management activities, it is possible to significantly affect the quality of people's lives. Originality/value: The article presents the significance of hybrid project management and the process approach in turbulent times of complexity of social and technological systems in a systematic and review way.

Opis:
Purpose: Based on the resource-based view theory, environmental uncertainty perspective, and causal complexity in firms, this study aims to identify the causal pathways of organizational resources, dynamic capabilities and technological uncertainty leading to digital transformation from a holistic perspective. Design/methodology/approach: Considering the gap in the existing literature on the configuration of internal and external factors affecting digital transformation, this study conducts a set-theoretic analysis using fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fs/QCA). The fs/QCA focuses on the effects of causal conditions that allow for more detailed discovery and understanding of the causal mechanisms of digital transformation. Thirty-three manufacturing SMEs were selected and fs/QCA was used to explore how companies can engage resources and dynamic capabilities to achieve digital transformation in the face of a highly uncertain external environment. Findings: As the research shows, both high and low levels of digital maturity can be achieved through various pathways of causal conditions. There is synergy between technological uncertainty and relational and portfolio technological resources or between technological uncertainty and sensing and seizing capabilities that can jointly promote digital transformation. Research limitations/implications: The analysis is based on a limited number of cases. In order to generalize the results, a larger sample from multiple industries can be collected and analyzed, thus refining the findings and increasing the level of universality. Future research should also be extended to different levels and theoretical perspectives to analyze the different factors influencing digital transformation. Practical implications: According to the research, managers should avoid "one size fits all" strategies and follow a pathway based on their resources and capabilities, especially dynamic to promote digital transformation or analyze environmental changes, as the digital era is inextricably linked to a high degree of technological uncertainty. Originality/value: This research enhances understanding of the interdependence of causal conditions (i.e. organizational resources, dynamic capabilities and technological uncertainty) in established relationships with the outcome – the level of digital maturity. It also provides implications for the digital transformation of manufacturing SMEs.

Opis:
Purpose: Determining and discussing selected aspects of the functioning of Compliance management systems in Polish enterprises in perspective of challenges resulting from the current crises. Design/methodology/approach: The research method used in the paper is the author's observation and interviews with companies with whom she cooperates in the implementation and operation of the compliance management system. The analysis of the results of research conducted on the basis of a standardized survey based on a questionnaire containing closed and open questions carried out in exemplary enterprises was involved as well. Findings: Research results confirmed the dynamic development of Compliance management in Polish enterprises, which is accompanied by a preventive approach with a key role played by the management in building culture and awareness of compliance in the enterprise. Research implications: Future research directions should focus on further, expanded research exploration in the area, taking into account international perspective. Practical implications: The results of the research discussed in the paper have a number of practical implications mainly for the management staff in terms of implementation of compliance management and development of its areas. Social implications: Building awareness of compliance management system and the advantages of implementing it. Originality/value: The paper has cognitive value for the development of knowledge, science and further development of the compliance management system in enterprises in Poland.

This paper presents a multi-criteria assessment model hotel services because of the quality of services, taking into account the validity of individual criteria. Adopted variables are fuzzy because of the possibility to take into account the uncertainty as to the value assessments. This model enables identification of those hotels that meet the highest degree of customer expectations.

Celem artykułu jest opis kompetencji komunikacyjnych, istotnych z punktu wiedzenia konieczności wypracowywania środowiska społecznego otwartego na różnorodność, którą należy uznać obecnie za nieusuwalną cechę społeczeństwa, rozumianego zarówno w kontekście lokalnym, jak i globalnym. Do badań wykorzystano analizę teoretyczną teorii kontroli niepokoju/niepewności Willama Gudykunsta. Zaproponowane narzędzia badawcze mają wymiar praktyczny, bowiem wskazują na rozwijanie konkretnych kompetencji komunikacyjnych, korzystnych w ograniczaniu zachowań ksenofobicznych. Za novum analizy należy uznać zastosowanie instrumentów komunikacyjnych do przełamywania negatywnych postaw społecznych.
The main goal of this article is to examine the communication competences, relevant from the necessity to develop an open society for diversity that should be now regarded as an indelible feature of society, in local and global aspects. The theoretical analysis of Willam Gudykunst's anxiety/uncertainty management theory was used. The proposed research tools have a practical dimension because they indicate the increasing specific communication competencies that are beneficial in reducing xenophobic behavior. The novum of this analysis is using the communication instruments to overcome negative social attitudes.

Purpose: The main goal of this article is to present the dropship model to consider it’s advantages and disadvantages and find out, is it accurate way to develop business in short time under some uncertainty. Design/methodology/approach: Most important problems and critical success factors of dropshipping model, and then assessing their mutual influence on each other were discussed. Costs that a start-up company running it’s business must incur were analyzed. In order to convince what kind of effects the online store may expect, simulations of requirements and costs on dropshipping platforms were conducted. Findings: Dropshipping business model is quite risky and should not be treated as a panacea in times of crisis. Online stores, if they think about significant profits, must focus on finding their niche, building responsive websites and rely on a solid information system. Originality/value: Simulation of costs of dropshipping business model under some uncertainty can be really helpful to start-up company running it’s business.

The article concerns the subject of public procurement, the innovation and the principles of evaluation of tenders. The paper presents the structure of multicriterial evaluation of tenders for public procurement low-floor buses and the model of evaluation of tenders in two variants: the actual value assessments and ratings for tenders expressed with uncertainty by the members of the tender committee, making the evaluation of tenders.

Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia model oceny projektów w ramach Regionalnego Programu Operacyjnego Województwa Śląskiego w ramach działania – Efektywność energetyczna i odnawialne źródła energii w infrastrukturze publicznej i mieszkaniowej ze względu na określone kryteria, specyficzne, charakterystyczne dla danego typu działania. This paper presents a model for the assessment of projects under the Regional Operational Programme of Silesia under the measure - Energy efficiency and renewable energy sources in public infrastructure and housing due to certain specific criteria to the type of action. Based on the assessment of the final project, taking into account evaluation criteria specific to the different factors and their validity can be determined projects of greater value due to the accepted assessment criteria.

Opis:
W artykule postawiona zostaje teza, że polityka gospodarcza, wbrew popularnym opiniom nie może opierać się na wiedzy naukowej. Teza zostaje poparta szeregiem argumentów wskazujących problematyczność stosowania twierdzeń naukowych w praktycznym działaniu. Nie oznacza to jednak, że decydent skazany jest na działanie nieracjonalne. W tym kontekście wykazane zostaje, że właściwym narzędziem umożliwiającym podejmowanie lepszych decyzji jest strategia. Strategia pojmowana jako pewien system reguł decyzyjnych a nie jako plan działania. Egzemplifikacją tego rozumowania staje się zaprezentowanie zasady ostrożności, która jest jedną z najbardziej fundamentalnych i uniwersalnych reguł decyzyjnych, na których może opierać się polityka gospodarcza państwa.
The article puts forward a hypothesis according to which economic policy, contrary to popular opinion, cannot be based on scientific knowledge. This thesis is supported by a series of arguments indicating how problematic is to apply scientific theories in practical action. Especially in the field of economic policy. This doesn’t mean however, that a decision maker must be irrational. In this context, it is demonstrated, that strategy is a right tool to make better decisions. A strategy, understood as a system of decision rules, not as an action plan. This reasoning is being exemplified by the introduction of precaussionary principle, which is one of the most fundamental and universal decision rules on which economic policy of the state can be based.
