Opis:
The publication includes the edition of the memoirs of the priest Feliks Windorpski, who administered the parish church of St. Catherine of Alexandria in Osieczek (the Brodnica deanery) and was arrested at the beginning of WWII. He was imprisoned in concentration camps in Dębowa Łąka and Chełmno, and then in Stutthof, Sachsenhausen and Dachau. He was liberated on 29 April 1945. Having stayed in the West after the war for two years, he returned to Poland and became the parish priest of the Church of St. Margaret in Płuznica; next he was the parish priest in the Church of James the Apostle in Torun. He died on 21 September 1985. Priest Feliks Windorpski’s memoirs include information about arrests among priests from the county of Wabrzeżno on 24–25 October 1939; he describes what happened to them later and presents the tragic conditions in which Polish priests were kept in Sachsenhausen and Dachau. The memoirs are preserved in the Diocese Archive in Pelplin.

Opis:
Racial, national and Germanization policies of the Third Reich, as well as resettlement activities are well described in the literature, but mainly in terms of general statistics. However, there is no detailed information on the camps themselves. Archival material constituting documentation of camp activities has not survived in most cases, but research opportunities are provided by the surviving parish register entries in register offices, which are gradually becoming available to researchers. Out of 26 camps in the Pomeranian province (Gau Pommern), the camp in Złotów (German Flatow) has been selected for the purpose of analysing the surviving parish register entries: births, marriages and deaths at the local register office. The entries included the names of 191 persons who stayed in the Złotów camp (Volksdeutsche Mittelstelle-Lager “Generalfeldmarschall Graf von Roon” Flatow). These sources revealed several aspects of living inside the camp and showed problems that the Lithuanian resettlers faced, usually without sufficient knowledge of the German language. These included complete isolation, restriction of their life space to the camp area, lack of clearly defined prospects, and a radical change in the German resettlement policy, which for the camp residents meant returning to Lithuania, yet not to their former homes, but to areas indicated by the German occupation administration.

Opis:
The article presents the vicissitudes of a Polish priest, a citizen of Prussia and Germany, who was called up in 1915 as a private – a paramedic despite the fact that he was entitled to hold the rank of an officer; he later held the position of chaplain-sanitary. Through the perspective of his narrative, the atmosphere among the soldiers, the relations between the Poles and the Germans, the situation in the territories where Władysław Łęga was stationed (Lithuania, France), and the attitude of the local civilian population to the German army are described. However, the major element is the depiction of the personal vicissitudes of a Polish soldier in the German army. The reader learns about the poverty the soldier experienced under American and French captivity as a German soldier; next, the reader discovers that American soldiers exhibited a friendly attitude to the Germans, but were quite reserved towards the French; the author also reveals the fact that the Americans could not distinguish the Polish nationality. The account also discloses the hostile attitude of German soldiers towards Polish aspirations to regain independence and, in general, towards their companions of Polish origin who were trying to sign up for the Polish army of Gen. Józef Haller created in cooperation with the Triple Entente. A similar attitude towards this issue was exhibited by the Americans who hindered the actions of the Poles.
