Opis:
The relationship between financial development indexes and foreign direct investment is studied in this paper. The main objective was to examine the effects of two groups of financial development indicators (the financial markets index and the financial institution index) on the FDI absorption rate. The happenstance of these indicators was evaluated in the form of panel data models for 10 countries: Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Poland, Belgium, Iran, Thailand, Nigeria, Austria, Norway and Venezuela, in the 1990 to 2017 period. The results show that when the financial institutional index, financial market index and GDP increase, the FDI increases; and when FIA, FMA & FME increase, the FDI decreases. Thus, expanding the capital market increased FDI attraction in the sample countries, and for countries with a weak capital markets, the financial market access index and the financial institution efficiency index has a significant negative effect on FDI absorption and vice versa.

Opis:
Coastal areas in Anantigha are utilized as dumpsite for industrial and domestic wastes including effluent from local industries and inhabitants of the area despite their usage for crop cultivation. Thus, the present study was designed to assess the concentration, pollution load and ecological risk of heavy metal in Anantigha coastal area. Standard pollution indices such as contamination factor (Cf), degree of contamination, pollution load index (PLI), enrichment factor (EF), geo-accumulation index (Igeo) and ecological risk index were deployed to assess the level of heavy metals contamination in the area. The results showed that the sediment was acidic under dried conditions and low in conductivity. The mean concentration levels of all the heavy metals were lower than their mean background values except for Al. The orders of dominance for concentration of heavy metals were: Al>Fe>Mn>Cu>Zn (Station 1) and Al>Fe>Mn>Zn>Cu (Stations 2, 3 and 4). Analyzed data showed that the sediments in the area are contaminated with Al with Igeo result showing station 2 and 4 been moderately to heavily contaminated with Al while station 4 was heavily contaminated with aluminium. Station 1 had low degree of contamination, whereas station 2 and 4 had moderate degree of contamination, and station 3 showed considerable degree of contamination. The PLI result indicates unpolluted condition and the area were not enriched by the studied heavy metals as shown by EF values. Hence, the sediment in Anantigha coastal marine area was classified as having low ecological risk factor. However, the levels of these metals are not static; there is tendency for increase as a result of increased human input and activities. Hence, there is a need for regular soil testing.

Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd) was known to the Incas as “the mother of all grains” and was believed to be sacred. It has been consumed in the form of food as well as medicine for the last 5000 years. Quinoa, a pseudo cereal, is recognized as one of the world’s healthiest foods due to its high nutritional value along with its potential to cater various health benefits. Being a good source of complete protein (contains all the nine essential amino acids), unsaturated fatty acids, minerals, vitamins, fibre and antioxidants, it is considered as “superfood”. Quinoa also helps to reduce the risk of various diseases like cardiovascular diseases, type-2 diabetes, some cancer, high blood pressure, obesity and is also a good option for people who are allergic to certain food groups. Its biodiversity and ability to sustain in adverse climatic conditions makes it an ideal crop to cultivate worldwide especially in under developing countries of Asia and Africa, where food production is threatened by global climatic changes. Hence, it is a demand of present world to increase the awareness regarding the various functional benefits of quinoa to combat one of the world’s major crises, that is, hunger and malnutrition.

Opis:
This study aims at assessing and interpreting groundwater quality using statistical techniques in Otuoke and environs, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Fourteen (14) groundwater samples were collected in the rainy season and analyzed for their physico-chemical and heavy metal contents. Heavy metals were analyzed using Atomic Adsorption Spectrometer. Assessment for drinking purposes revealed that the water is predominantly acidic, with iron and manganese contents exceeding regulatory guidelines in most locations. All other parameters were within WHO and NSDWQ regulatory limits for safe potable water. Water Quality Index revealed that over 73% of the groundwater in the area (11 samples) had good to excellent quality; while the remaining 27% of the groundwater (3 samples) have poor to unsuitable quality for consumption. Assessment of water quality for irrigation purposes was achieved using Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR), Potential Salinity (PS), Permeability Index (PI), Sodium percentage (Na%), Kelly’s ratio (KR), and Magnesium Adsorption Ratio (MAR). On average SAR (4.19), PI (68.51%), MAR (37.45%) and PS (0.77) revealed excellent water quality, whereas Na% (66.46%) revealed doubtful water quality while KR (2.00) revealed unsuitable water quality. Using Piper and Stiff diagrams, hydrochemical facies defined from groundwater in the area includes; Na+K – Cl facies; Na+K - Mg – Cl facies; and Na+K - Ca – Cl facies. Gibb’s diagrams revealed that the dominant control on the hydrochemical facies and overall groundwater quality in the area has been attributed to precipitation and chemical weathering of subsurface rocks. Various ionic ratios including Mg/Ca (0.642), HCO3ˉ/Cl (0.040), (Na+K)/Cl (7.026) and Cation Exchange Values (-6.026) revealed low salt inland origin with respect to provenance. Pearson correlation matrices showed both positive and negative inter-relationships between the physico-chemical and heavy metals in groundwater within the study area. This study has proven the effective use of water quality index as a tool for defining the overall quality of water in Otuoke and its environs, along with hotspots that needs immediate attention. The results could also serve as a decision making tool that will aid in establishment of treatment facilities to improve the quality of water in the study area.

This study highlights the 75 species of dragonfly fauna associated with rice ecosystems in eastern India out of which 15 species were regular and rest were sporadic. From the general taxonomic point of view all the species were grouped under 5 families of under order Odonata. Comparing different body parts the double branching keys were prepared for easy identification of 15 common dragonfly species recorded in rice ecosystems of West Bengal. Each key begins with a couplet (a pair of alternative) and each of which leads to another couplet. Finally the reader reaches the specific identity of species. Free hand drawing of wings of the 50 dragonflies were also used for separate identification of these insect species. In addition to this, different studies were made on courtship and mating, egg laying habitats, nymphal development, longevity, flight capacity of dragonfly to make the study more interesting to the reader. The population build up of dragonfly, favors to certain altitude as well as availability of water which is reverse to the other group of insects. Three different localities were selected at 9.75 m (Chakdaha), 200 m (Cooch Behar) and 1250 m (Kalimpong) of which former two represent an unique physiographic ecological system in Eastern India characterized by extreme diversities of dragonfly inhabiting there. The studies on natural enemies of dragonfly along with their major threats indicated that about 2, 4 and 4 species were critically endangered, endangered and vulnerable in rice ecosystem of West Bengal. Dragonflies are very sensitive to changes in landscape and are reliable indicators of wetland health. Therefore the effective conservation of dragonfly depends entirely on conservation of their habitats. Different studies were made to estimate the role of dragonfly in integrated pest management of rice crop in West Bengal. An investigation was also carried out to find out the crop stage wise diversification of individual predator and found that dragonfly was more diverse during flowering to ripening stages of crop respectively. The values Simpson and Shanon diversity index showed that dragonflies are specific flowering to ripening stage of crop. Subsequently the value of Margalef index and Menhinick index also indicated that the aforesaid predators were more diverse in flowering stage of crop whereas it was least in vegetative stage of crop. From the Hill's diversity the number of abundant and most abundant species was calculated where maximum and minimum were obtained from dragonfly and staphylinid respectively. The studies on colonization and succession of major dragonfly taxa in the rice field indicated that it followed a uniform pattern in relation to growth stages as well different phases in the rice field. The studies on relative abundance of dragonfly in different ecosystems reflected that their population in fields could be conserved and enhanced through maintenance of rice weed flora on bund or allowing ratoon rice after the rice crop during fallow period. The fallow land has limited effect on incidence of insect predator in rice crop. The relative ranking chart of 50 important predators in rice ecosystem of West Bengal indicates that the insect belonging to Coleopteran (17) were top of the list whereas dragonfly was third (10). The validity of chart may increase over time and they will need to be updated periodically.

Opis:
The ubiquitousness of information systems means that more and more areas of the company's activity are moving into the virtual sphere. IT systems take over most of the complicated tasks performed by people, which has a positive impact on time and costs incurred for the implementation of these tasks. One of the areas in which IT systems are used is the area of financial management, and thus the management of the financial condition of the unit. This article aims to test the suitability of expert systems as tools that can support the analysis and assessment of the financial condition of business units. The theoretical part discusses the essence of IT systems, theoretical foundations of expert systems and their advantages and disadvantages. The research part shows the use of an expert system to conduct the analysis of the financial condition of selected enterprises based on data from the financial statements of these units from 2015. The expert system provided information on the financial condition of selected companies. These results were compared with the results of the analysis carried out in the traditional way. This confirmed the author's assumption that it is possible to replace the financial analysis carried out with traditional methods by using a properly prepared expert system.
