Opis:
Due to the rapid development of urban cities in the recent decades the level of pollution in the air has increased exponentially, demanding the development of new variants of personal care products. Face being most exposed part of the body, comes in contact with pollution very easily making it difficult to maintain a healthy, bright and clear skin. The facial skin is thinner and more fragile as compared to the rest of the body. A cleansing product specially formulated for face should be used in order to retain the moisture and pH balance of skin. Activated charcoal has properties of deep cleaning and adsorbing impurities. This makes it a favourable ingredient for skin care products. Green tea is flooded with powerful antioxidants for treating acne & scars and also helps in anti-aging. This work aims at the preparation of two face washes. The first is prepared using activated charcoal and green tea extract and the second, without using activated charcoal and green tea extracts. The two face washes are then compared to determine their usability. The aim is to prepare a face wash to combat all the skin issues & to achieve a cleansed, moisturised & glowing face by using ingredients which benefit every skin type.

Maritime passenger transport entails significant risks and threats against the environment. The existing International rules – from the MARPOL 73/78 Convention to the European Regulations and Directives and ISO standards- aim to avoid pollution both in the high seas and in the ports. Concepts such as Green port or Smart port arise from an effort to make better use of the available resources, increasing efficiency, better energy use, use of the information and telecommunications technologies (ICT), and the lowest environmental impact. Furthermore, technics and programmes of energy management have been developed for the same purposes also. This paper reviews the main rules in the matter, as well as the most innovative technologies aiming to improve the shipping performance. All this, together with the investment effort from ports and ships, and the enforcement of a more stringent.

Renewable energy sources (RES) have significant potential to contribute to the economic, social and environmental energy sustainability of small islands. They improve access to energy for most of the population, they also reduce emissions of local and global pollutants and they may create local socioeconomic development opportunities. A majority of the communities around the world rely heavily on oil, natural gas and coal for their energy needs. These fuels draw on lots of resources that will eventually diminish, which in turn makes them too expensive or too environmentally damaging to recover. This review article discusses the advantages and disadvantages of renewable energies; therefore based on the benefits of these energy resources, the use of renewable energies, instead of, fossil fuels will be a good solution for the control of the environmental, social and economical problems of our communities.

Opis:
Livestock are reared throughout the world, and are an important agricultural product in virtually every country. This animal production systems and climate change are inter-related via complex mechanisms. Animal production influences climate change by emitting greenhouse gases such as methane and nitrous oxide. It is estimated to be the livestock sector is contributing a significant share of global GHG emissions, accounting for approximately two-thirds of direct agricultural emissions and about 14.5 percent of total human-induced emissions when supply chains are considered. Therefore, globally, there is an urgent need to reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that cause climate change by at least 80 per cent in wealthy countries and to protect the biodiversity which underpins food production. Dietary manipulation, ionophores, bacteriocins, covered anaerobic digesters, awareness creation and intensifying research and development are among the applicable methane mitigation strategies. Moreover, research bodies are also organizing to deliver findings at an international level; which focuses on the identification and development of technologies and practices to increase food production without increasing green house gases emissions.

The potential of flavonoid extract of Erigeron floribundus as green inhibitor for the corrosion of mild steel in 2 M HCl solution was studied using gasometric method. The results obtained, indicated that the extract is an adsorption inhibitor for the corrosion of mild steel. The inhibition efficiency of the inhibitor was found to increased with increase in concentration of the inhibitor. From the observed trend for the variation of inhibition efficiency with temperature and the range of value obtained from activation energy (16.16-3.02 KJmol-1), enthalpy (13.5-38.84 KJmol-1), entropy (-22.67 to 88.44 KJmol-1) and free energy (-4.23 to -2.61 KJmol-1), a chemical and physical adsorption mechanism is propose for the adsorption of the inhibitor on the mild steel surface. In addition, the adsorption is endothermic, spontaneous and is best described by Langmuir adsorption isotherm.

Opis:
Green turtles (Chelonia mydas (Linnaeus, 1758)) take advantage of the sand beach area as a stopover and carry out biological activities such as nesting and laying eggs. Pangumbahan Beach is one of the green turtle conservation places which is directly adjacent to the Indian Ocean. Tides affect physical processes such as the flushing of seawater on to the coast due to waves and flushing of water masses in estuaries, lagoons, and bays. This research aims to determine the effect of tides on the Green Turtle's nesting activity (Chelonia mydas). This research was conducted in July-September 2020, using observation and survey methods, and was analyzed descriptively. The data used include beach width, beach slope, tidal data, and landing data for Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas). A type of beach with a slope of 1.77° - 5.77° with an overall average of 3.4°, the Formzahl number value obtained at tide is 0.55, indicating the mixed type tidal type tends to double daily (Mixed, predominantly semi-diurnal tide). The results of this study indicate that the landing times and the formation of green turtle nests (Chelonia mydas) do not correlate with rising tides. The average effect of tides on green turtle egg-nesting activity (Chelonia mydas) was 0.111%, while the tidal effect on green turtle nesting activity (Chelonia mydas) was 4.09%. The highest frequency of Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas) nesting activity occurred between 22:00 and 02:00.

Opis:
The present communication reports a rapid, uncomplicated, sustainable and facile method of eco-friendly synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The pressing need for the development of benign, profitable and eco-friendly alternative routes has inspired researchers to explore plant extracts as safer replacements to hazardous chemicals. In the present study, a benign method of synthesis of AgNPs using Soymida febrifuga aqueous root extract has been developed. The characterization studies of synthesized AgNPs revealed spherical morphology and crystalline nature of AgNPs. The average particle size was 21.81 nm. The synthesized AgNPs were employed as mercury nanosensor for the selective and sensitive detection of toxic mercury ions in water and soil samples. The AgNPs showed a marked visual color change and change in surface plasmon resonance band on interaction with mercury ions. The greater selectivity of AgNPs towards mercury ions was observed. The limit of detection of mercury by 100 μL of colloidal AgNPs was found to be 2×10-4 M visually and 1.332×10-5 M spectrophotometrically in water samples and ×-4 M visually and 22.3×10-5 M spectrophotometrically in soil samples. The method makes use of a small quantity of AgNPs for detection of mercury in water and soil samples. The method proposed in the present study provides a rapid, selective and sensitive method for detection of mercury ions in environmental water and soil samples. The synthesized AgNPs were also used as effective microbicidal agents. The microbicidal potential of the synthesized AgNPs was checked against two gram positive and gram negative bacterial strains.

In this paper, the effect of pH on nanoparticles (AgNPs) using plants extracting has been investigated. The aqueous sol of AgNPs prepared at different pH values using hydrothermal method display different Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) behavior and the maximum absorption values were at pH = 14. AgNPs were characterized using X-Ray diffraction, UV-Vis spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope. Face-center cubic Ag nanoparticles with crystal size about 3.86 nm have been noticed. The absorption band showed that Ag has sharp curves in the ultraviolet and at the edge of the visible region. The SEM images showed cluster shaped nanoparticles, and when increasing the pH values, the result revealed the formation of larger nanoparticles cluster with more accurate crystallite sizes. The antimicrobial and antifungal activity was performed by Agar well diffusion assay against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis and Candida albicans. The diameter of the inhibition zones of Ag NPs against the bacterial strains such as, Bacillus subtilis (31 mm) and Escherichia coli (30 mm) at 200 µg/ml concentration and the diameter of the inhibition zones of Ag NPs against the fungus strains such as, Candida albicans (36 mm) at the same concentration.

Keeping in mind the problem of seed storing in tropical and subtropical countries where high temperature and high relative humidity (RH) greatly accelerate seed ageing phenomenon causing consequent deterioration and non-viability of seeds, an investigation was carried out on maintenance of storage potentiation of a green gram species by using selected plant extract. Pretreatment of green gram (Phaseolous mungo L.) seeds with aqueous solution of leaf extract of neem (Melia azadarch) 50g in 500 ml distilled water for 2 hours and then dried back to the original dry weight of the seeds before accelerated ageing treatment (99.1% RH and 32±2 ºC) for different durations (0 to 30 days) slowed down the rapid loss of germination and reduced the time (h) required for 50% seed germination (T50) of the seeds. The plant extract also significantly arrested the reduction of protein, insoluble carbohydrate, DNA and RNA levels as well as activity of catalase enzyme of seed kernels during forced ageing period. Ageing-induced stimulation of the activity of amylase enzyme was also alleviated by the seed pretreating agent.
