Opis:
The first people were infected with HIV in the early twentieth century. However, due to the non-specific clinical symptoms and long asymptomatic period of infection, the world became aware of the virus only many years later. HIV testing is one of the basic elements of HIV prevention. Other elements include the use of condoms, pharmacological prophylaxis and, in the case of infection, antiretroviral treatment. Knowledge of places where it is possible to get tested for HIV in a free way and basic information about tests seem to be important in reducing HIV transmission. In this work respondents from Poland were asked a few questions about HIV testing.

Opis:
Although there are currently known treatments for AIDS patients, the virus is still evolving, which means that it is not always possible to eradicate it from an infected organism. The FDA approved in November 2017 the first, complete treatment regimen containing two drugs: dolutegravir and rilpivirine (Juluca). The following article discusses current knowledge about a new, innovative drug as well as future therapeutic options of HIV-1 patients. The preparation can be used as a complete treatment regimen for HIV-1 infection to replace the current antiretroviral regimen in adults who have been virologically inhibited for at least 6 months. Clinical studies of this preparation show that the drug is well tolerated, is metabolizable and offers additional benefits, such as improving the lipid profile, improving bone mineral density and reduced bone resorption. Undoubtedly, longer observation of the effects of this drug therapy is needed, but this dual scheme seems to be a promising strategy for patients infected with HIV.

Opis:
Oral cavity lesions are amongst the earliest manifestations of HIV-infection. Thorough examination of oral cavity as well as awareness of associations between specific symptoms and HIV-infection can lead to early diagnosis of this life-long disease. Consequently, early diagnosis of HIV infection allows for prompt introduction of antiretroviral therapy allowing to improve patients’ quality of life, their life expectancy but also reducing the risk of transmission. Therefore, raising awareness on oral cavity disorders suggestive of HIV-infection among general physicians and dentists is of a great importance. In this article we described the most common oral cavity manifestations associated with HIV infection including: oral candidiasis, hairy leukoplakia and Kaposi’s sarcoma in detail.

Opis:
This study investigated Adherence to Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) among HIV positive patients receiving treatment in Imo State University Teaching Hospital Orlu. A prospective descriptive survey was adopted which involved hundred and fifty-three respondents (153) and twenty-five (25) clinic staff working in the Community Medicine of the Hospital. The instrument for data collection was structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25. Findings revealed that majority of the respondents 87(82.9%) agreed that they adhered strictly to their drugs prescriptions as ordered. 80(76.2%) of the respondents had no complaints about side effects, while 20 (95.2%) of the respondents reported poverty as one the challenges experienced for non-compliance to adherence, 12(57.1%) of them indicated forgetfulness as a major factor affecting their compliance to the HAART regimen, which is below the adherence level of ≥ 95% needed for HIV infected patients to reach full viral suppression. The study concluded that there is a fair adherence level of 87(82.9%) of HIV positive patients attending HAART clinic in IMSUTH but need to improve to reach ≥ 95% to enable HAART patients achieve full viral suppression. Health personal should emphasis more on teaching HAART regimen to HIV infected patients and also should be more focus to achieve more results.
