Opis:
The problem of environmental pollution with heavy metals is still serious, despite numerous activities related to the reduction of anthropogenic emissions of these elements into the environment. There is a growing concentration of many toxic metals in soils and vegetation (remaining in close relation with the state of air quality), and especially in the environment of large urban agglomerations. The paper presents an assessment of the degree of contamination of soil and grass vegetation with heavy metals (Zn, Pb, Cu, Cd) in the vicinity of the communication over Warsaw. Research material obtained from the same locations (samples of soil and grass vegetation) was analyzed (AAS) in terms of the total concentration of metals in soils and its mobile form, while in plants is the total concentration of the corresponding trace the AAS atomic spectrometry. Based on the concentrations of metals in soil and vegetation samples were determined bioaccumulation factors. Methods mobile metals isolated by selective extraction of a 0.05 M EDTA solution. The results obtained were related to the results of similar research conducted two years earlier in 2005. Additionally the effect of leaching of soluble forms of metal particulate pollutants deposited on the surface of vegetation.

Opis:
Copper has been known for decades that marked changes of micronutrient homeostasis in the host are accompanied by infection or inflammation. Copper levels in the serum are significantly elevated in response to inflammation that copper accumulates at sites of inflammation. Easily oxidized copper oxide nanoparticles (CuONPs) are widely used as catalysts that the ability of CuONPs to reduce bacterial population and virus application is enhanced. The mechanism of copper-mediated inactivation of herpes simplex virus (HSV) is by which cupric ions oxidatively damage biomolecules. Virus-mediated subjugation and modulation of host lipids during infection that the life cycle of most viruses proceeds through a series of basic steps: binding and internalization, fusion, uncoating, of the viral genome, its replication, assembly of new particles, and budding or release of the newly made viruses. The HIV-1 protein Vpu is an 81-amino-acid (16-kDa) type I which the presence of Vpu leads to the degradation of BST-2 via an endosome-lysosome degradation pathway. Oxidative degradation by a Cu-metalloenzyme, and ubiquitin-mediated degradation of cellular proteins were exploited. Copper can disrupt the lytic cycle of the Coccolithovirus. Lysins represent a novel class of anti-infectives derived from bacteriophage which lysins are bacterial cell wall hydrolytic enzymes that selectively and rapidly kill specific bacteria. Regarding copper induced cellular toxicity, several mechanisms have been proposed based on the formations of ROS by free Cu ions as cupric and cuprous ions can participate in redox reactions. ROS (O2ˉ,・OH, OHˉ), Cu+ and H2O2 play the important roles for viral inactivations. Thujaplicin-copper chelates inhibit influenza virus-induced apoptosis. Pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate as a metal ion binding agent inhibits the activity of the viral proteases of polyprotein processing and RNA replication of HRV. Chelation enables metals are capable of ligand scavenging via complexation, since reverse transcriptase enzyme inhibits the growth and replication of RNA tumor viruses. Thus, copper complex and copper chelation enhance antiviral efficacy.

The oxidative decomposition reactions of fuchsine dye on the surface of nano-catalyst Cu0.5Pb0.5ZrO3 were studied carefully in an aqueous solution in the presence of H2O2 under condition of pseudo-first order reaction. The catalyst was prepared by solid state route using pure nominal composition of metal oxides. The structural and micro-structural properties of the catalyst were characterized well by XRD, SEM and AFM respectively. Many of the kinetic parameters were investigated in this article, results obtained indicated that, the rate of oxidative degradation of acid fuchsine dye was found to be pH-dependent. The mechanism was proposed and the activation parameters were calculated.

Synthesis of nanoparticles using plant leaf extract is an eco-friendly, non-toxic and cost efficient approach in the field of nanotechnology. In this study, biosynthesis of stable copper nanoparticles were prepared by using Ocimum sanctum and Piper nigrum extract. These biosynthesized Cu nanoparticles were characterized with the help of X-Ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The crystalline size of the Copper Nanoparticles prepared from Tulsi extract is little smaller than Copper nanoparticles prepared from Pepper extract. SEM images of Copper nanoparticles showed that the cluster formation, presence of smaller and larger grains. FTIR analysis revealed that the functional groups present in the Copper nanoparticles prepared from both Tulsi and Pepper extracts. Thus, this method can be used for rapid and ecofriendly biosynthesis of stable copper nanoparticles and can be used for catalytic agent, anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-biotic, nanosensor, super conducting material, solar cell applications.

In the present paper, SEM and EDS studies of coatings obtained on CP Titanium Grade 2 under sinusoidal alternating voltage (AC) with frequency 50 Hz in Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) process at voltages of 200 Vpp, 250 Vpp and 300 Vpp during 3-minute treatments, are displayed. Based on SEM micrographs it may be stated that the porous surfaces, which are needed for biomedical and catalysis application, are obtained only for samples fabricated at 200 Vpp. It was found out that thickest and most morphologically developed surfaces were obtained at 200 Vpp, too. The surfaces obtained at 250 Vpp and 300 Vpp are cracked and had low concentration of copper, i.e. 0.9 at% and 1.1 at%, respectively, while that one obtained at 200 Vpp was porous and had 8.6 at% copper.

In present work, SEM and EDS results of porous and enriched in calcium, copper, magnesium and phosphorus coatings, which were obtained during 3-minute treatments of Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation PEO (Micro Arc Oxidation MAO) processes on CP Titanium Grade 2 at two potentials, i.e. 500 VDC and 650 VDC, are presented. It was found that the voltage of that process influences the chemical composition of coatings shapes obtained on titanium in electrolytes containing calcium, copper and magnesium nitrates. The pores shapes of PEO coatings formed on titanium in electrolytes containing calcium, copper and magnesium nitrates are presented, too. In addition, it was also noted that with using of higher voltage (here 650 VDC) of PEO treatments, the higher Ca/P, Cu/P and Mg/P ratios were found than those after treatments at 500 VDC.

Opis:
In the present paper, the analysis of SEM and EDS results of porous and enriched in calcium, magnesium, zinc, copper and phosphorus coatings, obtained during 3-minute treatments performed by Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO)/Micro Arc Oxidation (MAO) processes on CP Titanium Grade 2, is presented. The PEO process was carried out at DC potentials of 500 VDC, 575 VDC, and 650 VDC in electrolytes containing 125 g Ca(NO3)2•4H2O, and 125 g Mg(NO3)2∙6H2O, and 125 g Zn(NO3)2∙6H2O, and 125 g Cu(NO3)2∙3H2O in 1 L H3PO4. It was found that obtained coatings have pores with different shapes and diameters and/or size/dimentions. The Ca/P, Mg/P, Zn/P, Cu/P, and M/P ratios (M=Ca+Mg+Zn+Cu) were equal to 0.074, 0.046, 0.056, 0.042, and 0.218, respectively. The highest value of each of these ratios was recorded for 650 VDC. It may be concluded that the obtained PEO coatings structures most likely are similar to hydroxyapatite-like structures, in which the Ca2+ may be replaced with Zn2+, Mg2+, Cu2+.
