Opis:
African American women are merely half of the Black race, and they are half of the African American history, as well. The main objective of this paper is to show how the institution of slavery influenced lives of African American women and how they are conceived by the American society. This paper is in part an attempt to address the problems of race and gender faced by African American women during the Reconstruction and Civil Rights Movement, by suggesting how those problems shifted over the course of two centuries.

Opis:
The theatre artiste, as a member of a society, should be aware of the enormous responsibility placed on him as a committed artiste so that the society will not perish. Though some critics believe that the theatre artiste should not be committed, that art should be for art’s sake, from all indications this may spell doom for man and his society. The work gives an in depth analysis of different ideologies that are associated with creative writings, especially with the responsibility bestowed on dramatists and playwrights. This is expedient in order to situate the discussions that underpin the focus of the paper as well as the conclusions. This paper argues that art must be committed for it to be relevant and for society to become a better place for all. Hence, the playwright/theatre artiste is not excused in his duty to intimate the people with the pros and cons of life. This paper also examined some works of Femi Osofisan to juxtapose them with works of Wole Soyinka and Ola Rotimi, to show how those works reflect high level of commitment, especially towards the less privileged and the society. It is hoped that this paper will provide the needed inspiration for African playwrights, dramatists and theatricians to play their roles as committed artistes.

Opis:
This study was carried out in Bassa local government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria. The study aimed at evaluating the body characteristics of West African Dwarf (WAD) goats in study location. A total of one hundred and nine (109) matured WAD goats, comprising of twenty-seven (27) males and eighty-two (82) females, were randomly selected for the study. Animals were randomly selected across locations within the local government area. Sick and pregnant animals were not included in the study. Animals were selected based on the phenotypic appraisal only. Data were measured from various body parameters, these include; Live Body Weight (BW), Chest Girth (CG), Height at Withers (HW), Body Length (BL), Head Length (HL), Neck Length (NL), Ear Length (EL), Horn Length (HnL), Tail Length (TL) and Leg Length (LL). Data collected were subjected to statistical analysis. Results obtained showed that sex had a significant effect (p< 0.05) on all the body parameters considered. This trend confirms sexual dimorphism in WAD goats in the study location.

Opis:
Data on body weight and morphometric traits from one hundred and fifty-eight (158) live African cat fish sampled from two locations around Okitipupa within Ondo State, Nigeria was subjected to simple statistics analysis, Pearson’s correlation and analysis of variance to test for the effect of sex, age, location and body size on the body weight and the morphometric traits. The coefficient of variation (CV) varied among the parameters were considered. Results obtained revealed that body weight had the highest value (46.18%) in the adult fish while it was 22.76% in juvenile fish. Insignificant effect of sex (p > 0.05) was observed in both adult and juvenile fish in all the parameters considered. Age had a very highly significant effect (p < 0.0001) on all the parameters considered. The adult had higher values compared to the juvenile in body weight and the morphometric traits. Effect of body size was significant (P < 0.0001) on body weight and morphometric traits, the estimates increased from small size to medium to big size. Significant effect (P < 0.0001) of location was observed only on body weight, total length, standard length and head length. The fish from farm A had higher values compared to farm B. The correlation coefficients among the traits for juvenile and adult fish ranged between low to high and were significant (P < 0.05, P < 0.01 and P < 0.0001). Morphometric traits can be used in characterizing African catfish based on age and body size.

A review of the contribution of nutrition in management and control of Malaria was conducted. Nutrition has been confirmed as one factors that can be used to suppress the effect of malaria infection before clinical treatment is received by the patient. For the body to function normally, its nutritional demand must be met in the right proportions. Diet rich in vitamins, minerals, micronutrients are required for the metabolic functioning of the body, hence effective or adequate nutrition has health benefits to the human body. Living on quality diet has a way of improving the body defense mechanism against infectious diseases such as malaria.

Opis:
The HLA system is highly polymorphic and commonly used as a marker to understand core population genetical aspects such as stratification, human migration, predisposition to diseases and tissue transplantation compatibility. Although HLA alleles are generally treated as equidistant molecular units in population genetic studies, the diversity of DNA allelic frequencies among populations is also considered to be crucial to interpret the observed HLA polymorphisms. This study compares the variation of HLA DRB1 alleles across various subgroups of both Indian and African Populations, using their respective allelic frequencies. The HLA DRB1 allelic frequencies for 3,153 individuals of 32 subgroups of both Indian and African populations, were collected from the Allele Frequency Net Database (AFND). Correlation matrix and Grid diagram were compiled using the R statistical package. Allele frequencies were analyzed for the respective population subgroups using XLSTAT. The North East Indian populations were completely devoid of HLA DRB1* 16, which is fairly present in south Indian populations. The South Indian populations harbor both HLA DRB1* 10 and HLA DRB1* 15 at relatively higher levels but are very scarce of HLA DRB1* 07, HLA DRB1* 09, HLA DRB1* 12 and HLA DRB1* 13. The alleles HLA DRB1* 03, HLA DRB1* 04 and HLA DRB1* 07 could represent an epicenter for the admixture of African, North-East Indian and South Indian populations.

Opis:
Regional economic integration initiatives has been prospect of enhanced economic growth in South African construction industry. The impact of regional economic integration and globalization on construction industries in South Africa is evidenced by the decreasing market share of the local players in the industry. Developing countries need to institute radical reforms in their development agenda in order to leapfrog, and bridge this difference. That is why increase in foreign participation in construction activities in South Africa, cross border strategic alliances, technology transfer are some impact of Regional economic integration on the industry. The aim of this paper is to understand the term ' Regional economic integration ' and to study its impact on South African construction industry and the lessons to be learnt by other African construction industries. Its objectives include investigating the positive impacts on the Construction Industry, discussing the Regional economic integration in southern African i.e. SACU and SADC; identifying the some lessons from it. These will be briefly discussed mainly by exploring the literature and throwing light on the views of people who investigated and wrote in this field. The paper ends with conclusions and recommendations, stressing the need for improvement on other construction industries in Africa participation in Regional economic integration, in related to lessons South African construction industry.
