Opis:
Citrullus colocynthis (L.) Schrad. (Watermelon) belongs to Cucurbitaceae family. Watermelon can be correctly referred as either fruit or vegetable. The watermelon has attracted attention of many researchers due to various kinds of its medicinal properties. A watermelon has basically four parts as rind, white flesh, red flesh and seed. There are a number of varieties of watermelon in which the central ripped part may be dark red, light red, pink, or yellow. The new variety is watermelon is also available without seed or very few seed called seedless watermelon. In the present investigation the dark red flesh variety of watermelon was chosen. Ca, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn and Zn were investigated in rind, white flesh, dark red flesh and seed. It was found interesting that the amount of calcium (Ca) in all these four parts was very high and highest in the white flesh (unripped) of watermelon.

Opis:
Researchers have found many interesting properties of bitter melon and therefore attracted many others on its studies. Bitter melon belongs to cucurbitacea family and momordica genus. Bitter melon is used for human consumption all over the world in different forms such as a vegetable and /or medicine. Some of the research work has been done on the fruits, its seeds and leaves but the other parts such as tissues has not been studied. The present study is an extensive investigation of the quantitative elements for Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Pb, Zn, K, N, and P of the fruit- skin, fruit-flesh, fruit-seed, tissue skin, leaf and root of bitter melon for the first time using flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The results show a quite good variation of the concentration of the elements in different part of the fruit and the tissue.

Opis:
Short white rice grains produced locally from Mahaica, Guyana were collected from the rice farm and analyzed for ten trace elements by flame atomic absorption spectrometer. The concentrations of the trace elements investigated are as follows: - Ca (76.81), Mg (54.30), Fe (28.2), Cu (4.90), Zn (71.16) and Mn (14.33) mg/Kg. There had been controversial reports about the toxic elements normally present in the rice produced in different areas and conditions. The other four toxic elements As, Co, Pb and Al were also analyzed but not detected. With reference to the literature on the maximum daily intakes for human consumption, the concentration levels were all below the literature except for zinc and manganese

Opis:
Our health is very much dependent to our balance meals. The body needs different kinds of minerals for its different functions. Keeping this idea in mind the spectroscopic study on Persea Americana Mill (Avocado Fruit) has been taken into account. The investigation shows that the avocado (Persea Americana Mill) is an ideal food for the balance of minerals in our body. The quantitative investigation using atomic absorption spectroscopic technique shows the presence of Ca, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Pb and Zn elements in seed (nut), leaf and flesh of avocado. The concentration of Ca and Mg were found very high in nut, leaf and flesh; out of which the concentration of Mg (100809 mg/Kg) was highest in leaf followed by flesh and nut.
