Opis:
Wind results from the air in motion. Air in motion arises from a pressure gradient. Wind direction and wind speed are two characteristics of the wind, whose inter-relationships may give us an insight into the prevailing weather condition at a particular place. This study examines the trend analysis of the wind direction and wind speed pattern of Srinagar Garhwal Valley, Uttarakhand. The average wind speed in Srinagar Valley is 2.923± 1.232 m/s. As it is seen the most frequent wind in Srinagar Garhwal has a speed from 0.50 to 2.10 m/s in the northwest direction.

Opis:
The rainfall and temperatures are the most important parameters among the atmosphere as these parameters decide the ecological situation of the specific area, which affects the agricultural productivity. The temperature, and rainfall trends are analysed for meteorological data of Automatic Weather Station (AWS), was installed September 2009 with 22 meteorological parameters in the Department of Rural Technology, HNB Garhwal, University, Srinagar Garhwal, and Uttarakhand. In the study assess the seven-year change in temperature and rainfall has been examination by linear tread analysis. It is observed that in velley of Srinagar Garhwal, Uttarakhand, coefficient of variation for mean temperature for Srinagar Garhwal Valley is highest in the month of February and lowest in the month of August. This means that mean temperature is most stable in the month of August and total monthly rainfall observed highest in the month of November and minimum for the month of July. This shows that rainfall is more stable in the month of July and is more variable in the month of November for the Valley.

Opis:
Dendrocalamus strictus (Roxb.) Nees belongs to the family Poaceae is the most important and fastest growing bamboo species. An effort has been made to propagate D. strictus using nodal explants selected from mature mother plants. The disinfected nodes were inoculated on agar gelled Murashige and Skoog’s (MS) basal medium with various concentrations of 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP), while maximum 4-5 shoots were induced on 4.0 mg/l BAP. The newly formed buds were transferred to solidified MS basal medium containing 3.0 mg/l BAP and 0.5 α-Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) to achieve about 26 multiple shoots. These experiments were conducted with a cluster of minimum 3-5 shoots. The induction of roots from in vitro regenerated shoots was found difficult in this plant system. Three types of auxins i.e. indole-3 butyric acid (IBA), indole-3 acetic acid (IAA) and NAA were used in various combinations for rooting of shoots. About 93 % rooting was archived on half strength MS medium augmented with 3.0 mg/l NAA. The rooted shoots were hardened in the greenhouse for two months and the secondary hardened plantlets were successfully shifted to the farmer’s field. More than 90 % survival rate was observed under the natural conditions in this plant species.

Opis:
Justicia betonica L., family Acanthaceae is a widely used traditional folk medicinal herb. It is a unique source of jusbetonin and the leaves yield bluish purple dye. Traditionally, the plant is used to cure constipation, diarrhea, malaria, orchitis, pain, snake bite, stomach ache, vomiting etc. The whole plant possess significant biologically active principles like steroids, triterpenoids, alkaloids, saponins, glycosides, carbohydrates, gum and mucilage, proteins, fixed oils and fat, phenolics and tannins. It is reported to exhibit antiviral, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antimalarial activities. The intention of the study was to endow an overview of the ethnomedicinal properties, phytochemistry and related pharmacological applications of J. betonica, and to make an authenticated evidence base for further research on this important medicinal plant.
