Opis:
This research investigated the inhibition behavior of Spondias mombin leaf (SML) extracts in 0.1 M HCl solution on mild steel at various concentrations and temperatures. The result reveals that the inhibition efficiency of the extract on the mild steel sheet increases with increasing concentration of the extract and decreases with increase in temperature. Therefore, the adsorption mechanism of the extract on the mild steel surface is physical. Calculated Correlation Coefficient (R2) values show that the process follows a Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The proposed temperature coefficient equation of adsorption mechanism was found to be appropriate.

Opis:
The investigation of kinetics and thermodynamics of the corrosion of mild steel in a 2 M HCl solution using methanolic extract of Erigeron floribundus was carried out by means of gravimetric techniques. The results obtained indicate that the extract retarded corrosion. The inhibition efficiency was seen to increase with increase in concentration of the inhibitor, as well as with increase in temperature. The values of activation energy (Ea) obtained indicate a chemisorptions mechanism, whereas the value of Gibb free energy (ΔGoads) indicates a spontaneous adsorption of the extract components on the metal surface. Kinetic modelling of the experimental data obeys first order reaction. The adsorption of methanolic extract of Erigeron floribundus onto the mild steel surface followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. Therefore, the extract functions as good corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in hydrochloric acid.

The inhibition of API 5L X-52 steel corrosion in an acidic medium by moxifloxacin at 303 K, 313 K and 323 K was monitored by potentiodynamic polarization measurement. The concentration of acid medium was maintained throughout the experiment. The inhibition efficiency was found to increased with increase in concentration of moxifloxacin and temperature. Activation energy, adsorption and thermodynamic parameters were evaluated from the study temperature. Herein, moxifloxacin brought about a decrease in activation energy Ea that reflects chemisorption. The adsorption of the moxifloxacin on the steel surface was found to obeyed Langmuir adsorption isotherm ΔGads values, indicating strong and spontaneous adsorption of the moxifloxacin on the surface of API 5L X-52 steel.

Opis:
The corrosion inhibition behaviour of levofloxacin was investigated on carbon steel by means of a 2 M HCl solution, using potentiodynamic polarization measurement and Quantum chemical studies. The inhibitive effect of the studied compound was found to increase with increasing concentration and to increase with increasing temperature. The study reveals that levofloxacin is a mixed-type corrosion inhibitor. The adsorption of levofloxacin on carbon steel surface obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and involves physical adsorption mechanisms. Quantum chemical studies corroborate experimental results.

Opis:
The inhibition of X80 carbon steel corrosion in 1 M HCl solution by dexketoprofen (DKP) was studied using weight loss (WL), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The results indicated that DKP acts by way of adsorption as an effective protective inhibitor in the aggressive acid medium. The inhibition efficiency of DKP increased with concentration but was lower at higher temperature. The results of potentiodynamic polarization showed that DKP molecule behaved as a mixed type inhibitor by reducing both the anodic and the cathodic electrochemical reactions. Dexketoprofen was adsorbed on the X80 steel surface in accordance with Langmuir adsorption isotherm. SEM analyses supported formation of protective film on the X80 steel in the presence of DKP.

Opis:
Herein, the optimization of inhibitive action of the ethanol extract of oil from Picralima nitida leaves, towards acid corrosion of zinc, was tested using weight loss and thermometry methods. We found that the extract acts as a good corrosion inhibitor for zinc corrosion in 0.1 M HCl solutions. The inhibition action of the extract was discussed in view of Langmuir adsorption isotherm. This revealed that spontaneous processes govern the adsorption of the extract on zinc surface. Herein, the inhibition efficiency (IE) increases in line with corresponding increase in extract concentration. The temperature effect of the corrosion inhibition on the IE was also studied. This indicated that the presence of the extract increases the needed activation energy of the corrosion reaction. Furthermore, in our work, an optimal inhibition efficiency IE (%) of 86.78 was obtained at optimum inhibitor concentration of 1.2 gl-1, optimum temperature and time of 313 k and 8 hrs, respectively. From the calculated thermodynamic parameters, it can be said, then, that Picralima nitida extract provides good protection to zinc against pitting corrosion in chloride ion containing solutions.

Opis:
Corrosion of metals is a serious environmental problem and has been given much attention in the oil and gas industries. In several industrial processes (acid cleaning and etching, removal of rust and scale), metal surfaces are often made to come in contact with acids. In the present study, an attempt was made to examine Poupartia birrea (P. birres) back extract as a potential green corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in a 0.5 M H2SO4 medium, using the weight loss determination method. The results of our work indicate that highest inhibition efficiency exhibited by Poupartia birrea is 70%. The inhibiting effect of the studied extract could be attributed to the presence of phytochemical constituents present in the extract that are adsorbed on the surface of the mild steel. The plant extract can, hence, be considered as being eco-friendly and an effective green corrosion inhibitor for mild steel exposed to an acid medium.

Opis:
Chemical (weight loss and thermometric) measurements were used to study the corrosion inhibition characteristics of five seed shells, namely Afzelia africana seed shell (AASS), Brachystegia eurycoma seed shell (BESS), Derium microcarpum seed shell (DMSS), Mucuna flagellipes seed shell (MFSS) and Pentaclethra macrophlla seed shell (PMSS), respectively, on the inhibition of aluminum corrosion in aggressive 2.0 % HCl solutions at 30 and 50 °C for 8 hrs. Weight loss and thermometric measurements demonstrated that the seed shells (AASS, BESS, DMSS, MFSS and PMSS extracts) act as good corrosion inhibitors. Addition of the seed shell extracts decreases the corrosion rate of the process thereby improving inhibition performance. The result also reveals that the five seed shell extracts adsorb on the Aluminum surface through physical adsorption in accordance with Flory-Huggins and Langmuir adsorption isotherms at all temperatures investigated. Kinetic-thermodynamic parameters indicate a spontaneous adsorption process. Results of inhibition efficiency demonstrates that DMSS extract performed better as compared to BESS, AASS, PMSS and MFSS extracts.

The inhibitive action of phytic acid (PA) on Q235 mild steel corrosion in 1 M HCl environment was investigated using electrochemical techniques. Polarization results revealed PA to be a mixed- type inhibitor in 1 M HCl environment, while impedance results provide evidence of adsorption of the PA species on the corroding metal surface. The adsorption of PA obeyed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) studies all revealed the formation of a protective film adsorbed on the steel surface.
