Opis:
The aim of study was to analyse fungi prevalence in three ontocenoses (vagina, oral cavity and anus) in women during procreation period, which should be helpful in developing prophylactic programmes for pregnanl womem, newborns and infants infected with fungi. In 716 examined women (age 20-45 yares), 1411 samples of appropriate biological materials were taken and inoculated in the fluid Sabouraud medium and then axenic fungi strains were isolated in Sabouraud agar. High fungi prevalence in three ontocenoses of examined women was noted. Mean percentage for ontocenosis was: 39% ± 1.8% for vagina, 42.18% ± 1.8% for oral cavity and 25.03 ± 1.6% for anus. These data indicate the necessity for further examinations of multifocal fungal infection in women during procreation period.

Opis:
Since the XIX century human trichinellosis has remained an unsolved problem of public healthcare in Poland. This paper describes the past situation and analyses current changes in the epidemiological pattern of trichinellosis in Poland. Epidemiological data from the last 60 years, point out that the number of human cases as well as the number of deaths caused by trichinellosis has decreased significantly. Up to 90s the main source of Trichinella infection for people was pork. Among other implemented control measures, the introduction of the artificial digestion method in the early 80s to detect trichinellosis in pigs resulted in a shift in the sources of Trichinella infection in humans - pork was replaced with wild boar meat. In the years 1990-1995 the number of outbreaks due to pork consumption was 3.5-times higher than in the years 2000-2005. In the early nineties pork was the source of infection causing about 71% of all outbreaks; in 2000-2005 that number has fallen to only 12%. On the other hand wild boar meat was responsible for 23% of the outbreaks in 1990-1995 and as many as 88% of all outbreaks in the years 2000-2005. Moreover the number of persons infected in the outbreaks significantly decreased. The study of wild animals demonstrated that wild boars in Poland are infected not only with T. spiralis but also with Trichinella britovi. These results and EU recommendations indicate a requirement of determining the Trichinella species which cause infections in outbreaks. In the 3 trichinellosis outbreaks in 2005 the infected meat products were examined with molecular tools. T. spiralis species larvae were the etiological agents of infection in all these outbreaks. The current epidemiological situation of trichinellosis in Poland indicates a need of increasing the awareness of risks related to wild boar meat consumption among the general public. Introducing the artificial digestion method as an obligatory method for wild boar meat examination is also necessary.

Opis:
At the Ist Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Silesian Medical Academy in Zabrze 40 women with the symptoms of acute and subacute trichomonadosis of the uro-genital tract were subjected to tile treatment with Thiofastil and Aminitrozol; the former was administered in tablets by intravaginal route, 1 daily for 10 days; Aminitrozol was given paralelly in tablets per os in the amount of 0.1 g 3X a day, for 10 days. If needed, the combined treatment was repeated increasing the dosis of Thiofastil up to 20 tablets (1 tablet twice daily for 10 days). In 22 cases, Aminitrozol was also employed to treat the sexual partners. The percentage of cures was 62.5%. We have considered the patients to be entirely cured when repeatedly checked discharges from the urethra, vagina and uterine cervix did not show the presence of T. vaginalis in the saline drop, as well as in the smears stained according to Giemsa. In non-cured patients there was a considerable improvement: diminution in the vaginal discharge, disappearance of vulvar oedema and of pruritus and burning sensations. Microscopic picture was consistent with this condition, showing a reduced number of leucocytes and T. vaginalis. The percentage of cures obtained by this combined method is higher as compared with that observed after the separate use of Thiofastil and Aminitrozol in two groups of women.

Opis:
Detection of Toxoplasma gondii in human placenta by PCR and placental histologic findings. Since isolation of Toxoplasma gondii from human placenta strongly correlates with fetal infection, the aims of the study were: to detect fragments of T. gondii B1 gene in human placentae by PCR and to evaluate their pathology. 36 placentae included in three groups were obtained: group I (n = 7) from pregnancies with prenatal diagnosis of fetal toxoplasmosis; II (n = 17) from women with serologic features of primary infection during pregnancy; III (n&13) from pregnancies with fetal T. gondii infection based on clinical signs. T. gondii DNA was found in 2/4 samples from the I group and in 1/14 from the II group. Villitis was identified in 3/15 other placentae from the II group. In the III group we did not recognize neither T. gondii DNA nor villitis. We consider PCR and pathologic evaluations of placentae as the two complementary methods. PCR can be especially helpful in pregnancies not screened against T. gondii as positive result in placenta can confirm mother's primary infection.

Opis:
Detection of congenital toxoplasmosis in utero with a polymerase chain reaction on amniolic fluid. To establish a prenatal diagnosis of congenital toxoplasmosis the PCR test was done on amniotic fluids from 47 women suspected of primary Toxoplasma infection during pregnancy. Fragments of Toxoplasma B1 gene were found in 5 examined samples. Positive tests were confirmed by mouse inoculation or by serologic testing of newborns. It was concluded that the PCR performed on amoiotic fluid should be recommended for the prenatal diagnosis of congenital toxoplasmosis, however, negative results of the test can not rule out congenital infection.
