Opis:
The authors treated 15 students (Asia, Africa) infected with Hymenolepis nana, using a single dose of praziquantel Biltricid of 30 mg/kg b.w., administered as two portions 15 mg/kg b.w. each, with an interval of 6 hrs. After two months the parasites were found to be absent in 13 persons (86.7%). The tolerance for Biltricid was found to be good, though an ultimate answer to the question of its medical application requires further studies.

Flagyl was applied in 48 women with the infection of T. vaginalis at the Out-patient Department of the IId Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Medical School in Warsaw. The drug was administered twice daily per os in the amount of 250 mg and per vaginam in the dosis of 500 mg for 10 days. The patients' husbands were treated by oral route. The control examinations were performed 3 days, 1 month and 2 months after the treatment. The indirect examination, stained slides and parasite culture were done. In 4 cases the treatment had to be repeated; 42 patients were treated with good results which constitutes 88% of the total number of cases under examination.

The author studied the immunizing effect of artificial infection of animals both with fully invasive and X-ray irradiated larvae (40,000 r) of Dictyocaulus viviparus. The results obtained suggest that: 1. single dosis of 200-500 larvae per animal (fully invasive and irradiated ones) does not protect calves from natural invasion on the pasture, but it does attenuate the course of the disease: 2. the larvae administered twice in the above given amounts, at 5-week intervals. were found to immunize the animals against natural invasion so that after pasture infection they do not show any symptoms of the disease; 3. in control animals remaining under the same experimental conditions the course of dictiocaulosis was very severe.

Flagyl (8823 R. P.) of Specia production was applied in 62 women with trichomonadosis and in their 54 partners. In women, the treatment was general and local, in men - general. Beneflcial results were obtained in 57 womn, i. e. in 92%. In 5 cases with recurrent disease a secondary contact infection could be demonstrated. Flagyl is advocated for the treatment of trichomonadosis, as it proved to be the most efficient of all hitherto known drugs.

The review covers previous publications of Smyth dealing with cultivation of larval Cestode in vitro. Plecercoides were rearing in axenic conditions in vitro and obtained after 72 hours a mature from of Schistocephalus solidus. The plerocercoids were kept in a tube made of half permeable membrane which was placed in a vessel with fluent medium - horse serum; above vessel was heated to a temperature of 40° C being all the time shaked. The rearing of the coracides, out of Schistocephalus solidus ova obtained in vitro, procecded in water with a temperature or 25° C. The incubation of the coracides took place after 8 days. When the culture was trated with sun rays for several hours the process of the ova operculi opening was accelerated. The best results in cultivating plerocercoids Diphyllobothrium dendriticum in vitro up to a mature from was obtained on a medium containing an extract of duck embryo together with serum, monosacharides and albuminous hydrolysates. The plerocercoids after 6 days of breeding attained the stadium of late gametogenesis and shoved a defective somatic development. Any enrichment of the medium in nutritive substances failed to evoke further progress in the plerocercoids development - viz. formation of vitellous glands. In order to check whether the methods chosen for the development of tapeworms reared in vitro have been correct, cytologie, histological and histochemical tests have been performed. Cultivation in vitro is a contribution to the better understanding of relations and dependency existing between the parasite and its host.

At the Tuberculous Department in Kaźmierzówka a 3-year systematic treatment of enterobiosis in children was undertaken. The treatment started with 7-day therapeutic course of piperizine adipinate given twice under concurrent observation of prohylactic rules; afterwards, maintaining doses of the drug were administered for two days every second week. As a result of the treatment the number of the infected persons decreased from 57.4% to 1.6% and persisted at this level though the material of children was subject to constant change. Moreover, the studies were carried out in the selected Child Home in Lublin to test the possibility of reducing Enterobius vermicularis invasion exclusively by hygienic and sanitary measures. After 8 weeks there was a decrease in the number of enterobiosis cases. Prolonged prophylactic treatment in some families resulted in the disappearance of enterobiosis after 6,3, or 2 months, respectively.

The authors give an account of the results of their investigations on the helminthofauna of the rats Rattus norvegicus, caught in the Warsaw area and suburbs. 150 rats were examined and 6 species of parasites found. The authors confirm after Obitz (1933) a permanent occurrence of Trichosomoides crassicauda in Poland and emphasize an increase in infections of rats with endoparasites in the Warsaw area, in the period 1933-1958.
