Opis:
The authors present results of a comparative evaluation of two therapeutic methods in 400 women suffering from trichomonadosis vaginalis: the patients were divided in two groups: the first one treated at home with drugs as prescribed by the physician. The corresponding drugs were also administered in the other group by the physician. The comparison of the results obtained in both groups showed the superiority of the ambulatory treatment, against home therapy. A high percentage of remote cures was found to depend on the restoration rate of a proper biologic condition of the vagina.

Flagyl was applied in 48 women with the infection of T. vaginalis at the Out-patient Department of the IId Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Medical School in Warsaw. The drug was administered twice daily per os in the amount of 250 mg and per vaginam in the dosis of 500 mg for 10 days. The patients' husbands were treated by oral route. The control examinations were performed 3 days, 1 month and 2 months after the treatment. The indirect examination, stained slides and parasite culture were done. In 4 cases the treatment had to be repeated; 42 patients were treated with good results which constitutes 88% of the total number of cases under examination.

Flagyl was used in 110 women with acute and chronic trichomonadosis of the vagina in women; the treatment also included the sexual partners. The drug was administered by oral route in the dosis of 0.25 2 X daily and intravaginally 1 X 0.5 for 1.0 days. The examination carried out 10 days after the treatment showed the disappearance of T. vaginalis in 100%. The follow-up control 1/2 year later revealed positive results in 88.l%. Flagyl proved to be the most efficient drug among the hitherto applied antitrichomonal compounds.

In 1960-1962 the authors conducted studies, namely laboratory and gynecological investigations of 591 women living in three rural settlements of the Lublin province. The aim of these investigations was to determine the percentage of Trichomonas vaginalis infections in the country women and an evaluation of the adapted diagnostic methods (direct preparations, stained preparations according to Gram and Giemza, Schneider's medium and Pavlova's medium). Among the 591 women supposed to be healthy only 19 of them were free from the complaints. The authors found that inflammations of the genital organs and post-parturition injuries were the most common diseases. The rural settlement Turobin showed 19 per cent of Trichomonas vaginalis infection, Józefów - 8,1 per cent and Rudnik - 20,4 per cent. Comparative investigations of the evaluation of the used methods for the diagnosis showed that the best methods are: the method of direct preparation and Schneider's medium. This medium secured the highest increase of the number of protozoons and the longest durability. According to the authors such investigations should be initiated in other provinces of Poland.

To evaluate the efficiency of vaginal cleansing in the treatment of Trichomonadosis in women the authors treated 600 patients dividing them in two equal groups; the first group was treated with Acetarsol, the other with Devaginol. Each group was divided in 6 subgroups with 50 women each. In subgroups, another drug was applied for vaginal cleansing, the sixth groups constituting a control (without cleansing). The results given in tabulars form point to the importance of vaginal cleansing in the treatment of Trichomonadosis. The composition of a fluid is given which possesses a strong bacteria - and fungicidal effect and acts synergetically with the principal drug.
