Opis:
The development of our civilization and increasing noise pollution are strongly connected. In 2021, the Tatra National Park was visited by a record number of tourists - about 4 million 600 thousand. The previous record was broken in 2018 - then the Polish Tatra Mountains were visited by 3 million 800 thousand. people. The aim of the paper is the analysis of noise pollution and soundscape of the most popular national park in Poland - Tatra National Park. The Koscieliska Valley was selected for the study, because it is the second area in the park in terms of the number of tickets sold according to the statistics kept by the Tatra National Park. The paper presents the results of the analysis of acoustic measurements and ambisonic recordings made during four seasons using classical method and the soundscape method. In addition, psychoacoustic parameters and soundecology indicators such as: loudness, sharpness or roughness, ACI (acoustic complexity index), NDSI (normalized difference soundscape index), BIO (bioacoustic index), ADI (acoustic diversity index), AEI (acoustic evenness index) were calculated.

Opis:
The Tranquility Rating coefficient (TR) is a tool proposed for assessing the quality of urban green areas, which considers both visual and acoustic aspects. This paper aims to verify how the proposed TR coefficient works for the assessment of the audiovisual quality of a typical urban space in a vicinity of an arterial road. Three different versions of the same urban space are considered: loud and visually unappealing (current state), quiet and visually unappealing (after considerable traffic reduction), and visually appealing and quiet (after redesigning). The values of noise levels required for the calculation of TR are taken from the noise maps based on the in-situ measurements, and the values of the percentage ratio of the features which are natural or man-made but contained within the visual scene (NCF) are taken from a survey conducted in the research. The results show that for the urban areas, even with very low noise levels, the TR is described as “unacceptable”. This may indicate the need for introducing an amendment for TR to be used in typical urban areas.

Opis:
In this article, the analysis of influence of cavity edge shapes on flow-generated noise is performed. The acoustic wave propagation in the channel, that result from the flow, was analyzed. Shape of upstream and downstream edges was modified. The hybrid method based on Navier-Stokes and Perturbed Convective Wave Equation was used to solve the unidirectional coupling. The research showed a significant influence of the modification of the shape of the cavity edges on the generated noise. The change of downstream corner allowed for significant reduction of noise in the entire analysed band and allowed for the reduction of overall sound pressure level (OASPL) by 5 dB. Modifications of the upstream edge did not bring such differences, change in OASPL was up to 1 dB. The obtained spectra of the sound pressure level showed compliance with the calculated natural frequencies of the analysed object, as well as with some of the Rossiter modal frequencies, typical for the phenomena occurring in the cavities.

The present study undertakes the development and implementation of an algorithm for an automatic separation of acoustic events related to aircraft flights. The data are provided by noise monitoring stations operating as part of multi-point continuous noise measurement systems around small and medium-sized airports and helicopter landing sites in Poland. The article presents initial assumptions of the developed method based on the conclusions of the research. For this purpose, two different methods of airborne noise signal detection will be discussed. The first method is based on the analysis of the value of the changing rate of the signal being the difference between the value of the analysed sample and the value of the h-th previous sample of the recorded sound level time history. The second method uses a convolutional neural network operating on values recorded in 1/3-octave bands. The objective of the study is to examine the effectiveness and limitations of the selected methods on the collected representative input data.

Opis:
In the paper, a description of the test facility designed and implemented for noise silencers according to the methodology specified in the PN-EN ISO 7235 standard is presented. It is possible to measure the insertion loss, flow noise, and pressure loss on the test stand. In particular, the following issues were presented: noise protection in the low frequency range, the design of the anechoic termination, and measurements of the sound pressure level in the flow. To obtain a sufficiently high level of noise protection, three noise transmission paths were considered: direct, indirect, and flanking. The design of the anechoic termination was based on the profile of the catenoid tube, which made it possible to obtain strong sound absorption in the low-frequency range while maintaining a limited length of a terminator. A specially designed microphone cap was used to measure the sound pressure level in the flow field. The paper also presents results of selected measurements that illustrate the possibilities of the designed test stand.

Opis:
The article presents the results of numerical calculations of noise generated by an axial fan installed in a ventilation duct with a circular cross-section. The research takes into account the installation of the axial fan due to the distance of the rotor from the curvature of the pipeline. The uRANS turbulent flow modeling methods were used in the calculations. The uRANS stands for the Navier-Stokes equation with Reynolds averaging in the version that takes into account the non-stationarity of the flow. The purpose of the work is to determine the sound power in the vicinity of the sound source. The decisive parameters affecting the noise emitted will be the length of the installation in front of and behind the rotor. The propagation of acoustic disturbances in the far field was modeled using the aeroacoustic analogy of Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings. Based on the calculations, the directional characteristics of the sound source were determined.

Opis:
European Union Directive 2002/49/EC relating to the assessment and management of environmental noise (named as END) in article 6 paragraph 3 states that “harmful effects may be assessed by means of dose-effect relations referred to in ANNEX III”. In this still unfinished ANNEX III there are formulas which present how to calculate the number of people affected by a given noise. The dose-effect relations have been recently presented in WHO document “Environmental Noise Guidelines for the European Region”. These Guidelines allow to predict the percentage of people who will be affected by a specific kind of noise. E.g. it is shown how to calculate the percentage of highly annoyed people for a given value of noise index, Lden. In our paper we propose how to calculate the total number of people affected by noise in their living conditions and discuss the implementation of methods recommended in ANNEX III in Poland.

Opis:
The paper presents stages of developing a prognostic model for implementing noise protection in an industrial hall. The main source of vibroacoustic problems is the glass hardening furnace, which was installed in a new production hall. It generates vibroacoustic problems at the furnace operators' work stations and at work stations at other devices placed in this hall and in the adjacent hall. These problems are mainly result from mistakes made during the preparation of the furnace placement, as well as the assembly of the machine and accessories. The conducted vibroacoustic tests were aimed at diagnosing problems and developing appropriate ways to minimize the risk of noise and vibration hazards. The basic research tool was to create the correct hall acoustic model, determine the sound power of partial sources and calibrate the model. Modelling the sound protection efficiency of each noise reducing element has allowed the selection of appropriate solutions in terms of acoustic efficiency and approximate application costs. Measurements were carried out according to standard procedures. The article presents only some of the results of vibroacoustic tests directly related to the developed acoustic model. Analysis of vibration paths and noise propagation, indication of assembly defects is a recommendation to formulate vibroacoustic requirements for newly installed devices.

Opis:
Aim of the study was to asses noise annoyance in relation to psychoacoustic metrics of sound in an office environment. The Vienna Test System was used for this purpose. Virtual office acoustic environments were developed with sources of different psychoacoustic parameters (loudness, sharpness, fluctuation strength, roughness) but with a constant A-weighted sound pressure level of 55 dB - sound environment with conversations, sound environment with office equipment (computers, printers, telephones) and sound environment with all office noise sources together. The reference environment was a quiet office room with no additional noise sources. Recorded real noise sources were transferred to a virtual 3D sound environment and converted into binaural sound, which was then played back on headphones. During the exposure to each of the acoustic environments, the subjects performed the ALS test (work performance series) and COG test (measurement of attention and concentration) and then assessed the given environment using a questionnaire. The paper presents the results of the statistical analysis - despite different psychoacoustic metrics of office noise sources in the examined acoustic environments, no statistically significant differences were observed in the results of psychological tests.

Opis:
Numerous studies on noise exposure and hearing loss risk of musicians playing in symphonic or chamber ensembles have been published in the literature. Typically, such studies present data averaged over a specific measurement time during which various repertoire is played, usually not thoroughly analyzed. This often creates concerns that the selection of musical pieces for the measurement may be an important factor determining the sound exposure. Our study was undertaken to examine how the musical repertoire from the classical, neo-romantic and 20th century periods differs in the exposure level (LAeq) measured near the ears of musicians who play various instruments. The results show that the difference caused by the selection of the repertoire may range from 2 to 6 dB(A), depending on the instrument. In the case of some instruments such a difference may cause a significant change in the physiological load imposed on the musicians’ auditory system.

Opis:
The well-known dominant sources of airframe noise are associated with unsteadiness of separated and/or vortical flow regions around the high-lift system (flaps, slats) and the aircraft undercarriage (landing gear). Current practical landing gear noise prediction models are individual component - based, which means that the various components are divided into groups according to the frequency range, in which they predominantly radiate noise. Since the far-field noise spectra are approximately Strouhal - based, the emitted frequency is assumed to be directly related to their size: the large elements are responsible for the low frequency region of the spectra, and the small components for the high frequency region. On the basis of such understanding of the noise generation mechanism, the special configurations that lead to considerable noise suppression were proposed. One element of these configurations are rods with different shape and cross section. In this work the situation when circular rods are in area of laminar-turbulent flow were analysed. The measurements were carried out for single circular rod with different diameters to study the noise effect depended on Reynolds number. Far field noise for broad range of Reynolds numbers was also examined depending on distance from the source of noise.

In this paper same results of heavy vehicles traffic measurements were used to simulate the noise measurands by the CNOSSOS-EU method for this purpose. The heavy vehicles traffic volume and velocity were recorded by permanent automatic monitoring station. The noise was calculated in octave bands according to the CNOSSOS-EU method. The positional and not positional measures of traffic noise were proposed for data scattering. The results was described using parameters such as the median, average peak noise, average maximum noise, average background level, first and third quartiles and relative measures of noise. Analyzes carried out for the tested section of the road showed that the traffic of heavy vehicles is not always the main source of road noise. It has been shown that maximum values of the acoustic pressure occur for the frequency of f0 = 500 Hz. The dispersion of noise and type A uncertainty of the results were evaluated.
